More Sparkles!
Zoe wanders into X-Men

Some mutants are just ostentatious. Incredibly sparkly gravity-defying glowing multicolor hair is kind of a giveaway for that.

And unlike five minutes ago there's a ten year old girl singing, loudly, off-key, and playing with a glowing ball in her hands, hopping around this mostly-empty playground.

Some other children are alarmed by this! Some are fascinated instead! Many of both categories are firmly removed by their attendant parents.

"Vertl mar- Wait I forgot to language. Aww, don't be scared!"

...She tosses the glowy ball gently to one of the kids who hasn't been removed.

He catches it, giggles, and tosses it back.

Yay! A game! She bops it high into the air with barely a tap and runs backward a bit. "I'm Zoe!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm Jack!" He lunges for the ball, and hits it back into the air.

The ball obeys his desire even though he probably hit it wrong. Zoe runs to hit it next. "Why'd everyone else run away?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"A lot of people don't like mutants." He hits the ball back at her. "My little sister is one, though."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm prolly not the same thing." Bop goes the ball. "Most places I'm not the same thing, I'm made of starstuff now an' everything. Mutants have magic?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mom talked to the guy who came from the school and he says it's not really magic, we just don't understand it yet."

Permalink Mark Unread

Zoe shrugs. "Know any games better than keep-in-the-air?" She lets the ball fizzle out in midair.

"Yeah but I dunno if you can cheat at all of 'em. Tag probably wouldn't be fair, since you can fly. A lot of mutants can cheat at games," he says with the air of someone who considers himself an expert on the grounds of a five-minute conversation. "It's fair if everyone can cheat, but not if only some people can."

"You wanna fly? I can boop you for it! Boops last, like, half an hour."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Ooh! Really?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Boop on the forehead! Flying works by wanting to fly - this is an obvious fact. "Tag you're it!" She shoots off into the air trailing sparkles.

Permalink Mark Unread

He flies after her, shrieking delightedly.

Permalink Mark Unread

The pair play airborne tag and probably attract attention.

After a little while two adults and a teenager with blue skin and a tail appear on the edge of the playground.

Permalink Mark Unread

Airborne tag is fun! Zoe's crazy hair is actually a bit of a disadvantage since she agreed that it counts as a tag.

She glances at them but continues zipping through the obstacles the playground provides to stay away from Jack.

The adults find benches on the edge of the playground and sit and wait politely for the children to be done playing tag. The teenager vanishes.

Permalink Mark Unread

Zoe will keep playing tag thanks.

For a while anyway, eventually tag gets boring. When Jack's flying starts to wear off she drops head-first at the ground and appears through a momentary portal on the ground near the two adults. "Hi, you wanna talk to me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, we do. Are you alright?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm happy as a Demacian clam, I'm in a new world and there's some magic people and none of them tried to stab me yet!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"What's a Demacian clam? Are they particularly happier than the regular kind?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's a clam from Demacia. Aww, I reminded myself of home again..." Suddenly glum, she stops floating and glowing quite as much.

Permalink Mark Unread

"What's wrong with your home?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Got blown up. Too much magic fighting." Siiiiigh. "I don't wanna talk about sad things 'kay?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"--Alright. But if you need help, we need to figure that out."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't need help. Unless help finding fun things counts!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Is that what you do all the time? Run around trying to find fun things?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Pretty much! And seeing cool places and sometimes blowing up bad guys."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Blowing up bad guys?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sometimes! It's usually more monsters than bad guys. A lot of bad guys sound like good guys then sometimes good guys are actually bad guys. It makes my head hurt. But a giant skeleton wolf that's killing people I can just go ahead and blow up!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, that's true enough. Morality is complicated."

Permalink Mark Unread

"And boring." She's bouncing a ball that looks dark like space, and yet bright and sparkly at the same time, off the ground now. Dribbling, twisting around, and such.
