"...not Elves?"

"No. They'll look like nothing you've ever seen before."

They look at Melkor.

"You can help your people by behaving reasonably," he says.

"Okay. We can do that."

"It would be better to find someone who would not be traumatized by the experience."

"Compared to Elves nothing is scary."

Alex nods.

He asks the orcs to take him to recruit several others.

They point in a direction. "Two days' walking that way?"

He estimates and ends up fairly close to the mark.

It's a hundred fifty miles out from Angband, loosely. The orcs call for their friends. "It might be a while, they'll be scared."

He talks to them while he waits. He asks them about their lives and gives them examples of questions the aliens might ask.

They can weather these pretty well, as long as no one's going to seem like an Elf! Eventually a few more orcs are persuaded to join them. Their lives are pretty scary, which is all the fault of the Elves trying to kill them.

"Would you mind waiting here for a few minutes?"

Alex leaves. He returns around twenty minutes later and takes the orcs back to the fortress.

Now he has twice as many orcs eager to meet interdimensional charities.

Alex turns to Melkor.

"I've contacted the Liinae. They've agreed to send a representative. Are you willing to extend a promise of peace?"

"Of course."

"They also want to do a full mapping of here and the surrounding area. It will give them a better idea of what's going on and if they can trust what you're saying."

"Can they handle the reaction if that provokes the Elves?"

"Yes. They'll talk to you before they engage with the elves as a gesture of good faith, but they will not promise to deny aid to the elves if they ask for it."

"I'm not worried the Elves will ask for aid, I'm worried the Elves will take contact as provocation."

"They can defend themselves."

"And us, if the Elves hear that we were behind it and launch an attack on the nearest orcs they can find?"

"Yes. They will not allow their presence to cause more violence, even if they decide they can not otherwise aid you."

"In that case they are welcome to come."
