"In the whole world?"

"Yes, or who are in danger."

"All of them are in danger, Elves want orcs to stop existing - maybe a thousand thousands?"

A genocide, Alex doesn't say.
"I can help you," he says instead.
"I can't fight for you, but I can bring you somewhere the elves can't reach. What do orcs need to live?"

"Food? Space? We should - we should talk to Melkor, the orc god, he'll know if there are other things we need that we wouldn't even know we need because this world has it, he'll know if the Elf-gods can find your place..."

"They can't. I can promise you that."
Alex rises to his feet.
"Can I go with you to meet him?"

Yes. He can definitely do that. "It's a long way."

"I have something that might help with that. Can you tell me exactly how far and in what direction?"

They can! It's called Angband and they can point him and tell him how many day's travel at a walk.

"Thanks. I'll be right back. Wait here please."
Alex disappears.

They're nervous, but they wait. (All of this is relayed up the chain of command, too.)

Alex reappears.
"Okay got it. My friend set this to take us roughly where you said. You are going to need to grab onto me for it to work."

...they grab him.

They appear approximately where the orcs said.
They are intentionally a little short, Alex does not want to appear inside of a fortress.

It's a fairly forbidding fortress! That's at least partially the dark, but it's also partially the layout. Very very thick walls, built into the mountains. There are orcs walking around.

(There are not prisoners hanging from faces of rock; Sauron can do illusions, and is doing a very peaceful prisoner-free cliff face.)

"Is this right?" Alex asks the surrounding orcs.

"Yes, this is Angband."

"How do we get in? I don't want them to think I'm a strange elf."

"We told others to tell Melkor what was going on already! Otherwise they might have thought that, you look a little like an Elf. Melkor can tell from here if you're safe to let in and then they will open the gates for us."

"How did you tell them? Can you guys talk without sound?"

"No, but Melkor can and some of the little orc gods can, so someone ran off to tell the nearest one about you and then he could tell it to Melkor."

"So I guess we wait? Anything else I should know? Does light hurt you?"

"Yeah, if it's bright. Might hurt less if we were used to it but we're not. Light helps Elves. The Elf continent is so bright, all the time, because that's how Elves like it, and they want to make the whole world bright like that so all the things that like the dark die."

"What do you eat? Does your food grow in the dark?"

"Some food grows fine in the dark and now that lots of people who used to live out on the plains are hiding in Angband because of the Elves, Melkor makes us food by magic so they have enough to eat even though there's nowhere to grow or gather it."
