"Certainly. The short story is that I'm here to ask for your advance consent to be raped by demons."

"The long story is that Hell has had a very recent regime change, and the new Queen forbids all demons from dealing unfairly or coercively with mortals. Most of us are adjusting well enough, but there are a few who can only feed on what we call 'true' rape—meaning sex where the victim is given no opportunity to refuse. Starvation won't kill a demon, but it can make us very uncomfortable. The Queen's solution was to have her diviners seek out mortals who might be willing to agree in advance and then forget their agreement, and then send representatives such as myself to make the request. I'm also authorized to offer a few rewards, but I hope you'll consider the question on its own merits first before turning your attention to those."

"...I'm not...categorically unwilling...but if I don't tell my girlfriend you're on the up and up, she will find a way to be more inconvenient than starvation." 

"It's possible to bring a friend—or girlfriend—into your negotiations alongside you, if they're dreaming at the same time and you vouch for their willingness to either have their memory modified or be geased to avoid letting you know about your agreement. The requirement that you not know your consent was sought and granted is very strict. You can also choose to experience all your encounters as dreams, which might worry your loved ones less."

"I'm sure it would at least take her longer to catch on, but it's still not a risk I'd unilaterally sign you up for. I can't swear she'd agree to either the memory-wipe or the geas, but I assume you can retract your offer if she doesn't."

"In your judgment, would she spread rumours of the invitation that might circulate back to another participant someday?"

"She would not." Ha. As if. 

"Would you like to make arrangements that she join you here immediately, or only once negotiations are farther along? I should mention that bringing in a second participant has a cost, and although you remain completely free to end negotiations and resume your regularly scheduled dreams at any time, if you do make an agreement that cost will be reflected in your balance sheet and will affect which agreements are valid and which rewards you can afford."

"I'm not sure I understand the benefit of waiting?"

"The benefit to me of waiting is that I don't spend the resources speculatively only to find out that once you've looked through your options you choose not to make an agreement after all. The benefits to you are less. If you'd rather bring her in immediately, I will."

"No, that's fair, let's make sure it's worth your resources first."

"Would you like me to summarize the parameters of the agreement out loud, or would you rather go over a paper copy?"

"Paper copy, please."

He hands her a clipboard that wasn't there a moment ago.

She skims the document.

"...So can I get some more detail on the part where Hell exists and is under new management?"

"What would you like to know?"

"Well I would kind of like to know what happens when people die."

"Ah! Yes, that's understandable. The truth is that by and large we don't know," he says. "It's possible for a mortal to become a demon, or to give their soul to Hell, and in either case they stay bound to Hell indefinitely. For mortals who have done neither... it's possible to resurrect them, but prohibitively expensive without advance preparation. Anyone who was dead for only a few minutes doesn't remember what it was like, and we don't have anyone who was dead for longer than that around to ask."

Hoo boy. 

Aurelia is going to become a terrifying diabolist and then the both of them are going to be demons. Hopefully this is less of a disaster than when Aurelia got really into curses. 

"Advance preparation as in before the person dies? And what does prohibitively expensive mean."

"Before the person dies, yes - essentially the necessary thing is to have someone present who is alert and ready to catch their soul and put it back before it goes wherever souls go when no one catches them," he says. "Prohibitively expensive means that it's out of budget for the Queen's researchers even though the Queen would quite like to find out more about the usual fate of souls."

Well, RIP to the Queen's researchers but Lavinia's girlfriend is different. ...Although it'll still probably take more than a human lifetime to figure out, because it seems like the kind of thing where research would involve killing people, and Lavinia isn't going to let her kill anyone who it isn't really definitely for sure a good idea to kill. 

"How often do regime changes in Hell happen?"

"The previous regime was stable for several thousand years and this one intends to do better."

"Okay...do you want me to just put check marks on things, or verbally confirm them, or what?"

"Ideally you talk through your choices with me and ask questions and discuss details as they come up, but either checkmarks or verbal notes will work. Once you're satisfied with what you've chosen I'll produce a clean copy of the proposed agreement for you to look over for final confirmation, and bring your girlfriend into the dream so we can explain the situation to her."

"Okay, well, I'm just checking everything in the sex and gender options, I don't think that part needs a whole lot of discussion."

"Reasonable."

"And the humanity ones...ah, okay, I do have a question now." She points to the "phallic options" section. "Logistically speaking, how do the giant penises...work?"

"In which respect?"

"Well, I assume they aren't purely decorative, but do they automatically come with bonus stretchiness, is outercourse involved...? Human flesh only has so much give."

"Ah, those details are partly determined by later choices. Outercourse, limiting sizes to what's feasible for your body, and letting you be damaged by infeasible sizes are all available, as is sticking to dream encounters where physical logistics hold less sway. "Or it's possible that there's such a thing as a person you'd find unattractive and if you check that box you may find out what that looks like."

"I mean there are people I find unattractive, but, like, that's because they're assholes, not because there's something wrong with their face."

"Then it sounds like the Ugly option is effectively free for you. We won't begrudge you taking it even if it doesn't effectively expand your pool of possible partners; that sort of thing is a known and accounted-for cost of standardization."

”I certainly don’t object to lots of mouths, but the specific thing I meant was one mouth where all the teeth are long and pointy and some of them are kind of asymmetrically sticking out and overall you’d give an orthodontist a rage aneurysm.”

"Yes, I see what you mean. When Convenient should cover cases like those, but might not cover every case where you could be embarrassed in front of a passing acquaintance; that's more When Alone territory."

"Eh, that's fine, it's not like it could be construed to be my fault, anyway." She takes When Convenient and the suggested Conditional for being wakeable, because that could be legitimately dangerous, if she can't wake up. 

Hmmm. She's going to skip Frequency for now; she'll have a better idea what she's willing to put up with in that area once she has a better idea of what a given encounter is going to look like. 

Encounter Density...hm. 

"Can Frequency be set differently according to parameters other than encounter type? Because I'm looking at density, and while overall I'm happy to just take the maximum value for that, I have some ideas for specific scenarios that involve fewer participants, so I'd like to specify lower frequency rates for lower density, but I don't really care how that interacts with which kind." Except that for obvious reasons if she does take Personal Possession that one is going to be set to an encounter density of one.

"You could also use a Special Mention to propose your specific scenarios, but yes, if you'd like to pair up the densities and frequencies that way you may."

"Sure, but Density says I'm not often going to get less than the maximum allowed, so." Shrug. "Even if the scenario I propose really appeals to someone, if it's a choice between one guy getting a really good meal or a few dozen guys getting burgers, I wouldn't expect the gourmet to win often if there isn't a specific space carved out for it. But what I'm imagining could be totally wrong."

"We generally put some effort in to accommodate Special Mentions even when that involves less than the maximum density, and..." He hesitates. "...we have not, yet, completely solved the problem. But I think it's likely that we'll soon have enough volunteers that we can afford to serve, as you put it, gourmet meals more often. Still, if you want to add your extra Frequency, do feel free."

Nod nod. Better safe than sorry. 

Okay so for right now she's going to put down once a month, any encounter type, one demon, and once a day, dream encounter, unlimited demons. And a note that says she is NOT done here. 

Duration...

"...You have time magic?"

"Specifically, we have the ability to fold time, so that within a defined space up to a year may pass while only a few heartbeats pass on the outside."

"Wow, okay." There is so much you could do with that. Lavinia is going to inform Aurelia of this first thing. "How worried should I be about the mind breaking thing?"

"In which respect?"

"Well, I would have expected it would come after exhaustion, for one thing."

"You could consider it a form of mental exhaustion rather than physical exhaustion."

"So it's not permanent."

"Yes. Should I be translating it differently?"

"Probably. Lotta human porn where 'mindbreak' means that after being raped long enough the girl decides she's into it and switches sides to her captors."

He makes a note on a briefly-extant notepad. "Thank you."

"...hmm," he says. "We are very strongly inclined to forbid pregnancy in these encounters because half-demons are a tricky business to begin with and having them raised by mortals who aren't permitted to understand the full context of the conception seems like a bad policy."

"Does it help that I would certainly be co-parenting with my girlfriend, who is allowed to understand the full context. Also can you elaborate on 'tricky business,' if it's that they have chronic pain or poor health or something then nevermind."

"They're difficult for a mortal parent to handle because they have powers and instincts not common to mortals and difficult for a demonic parent to handle because they have limitations and instincts not common to demons. The point about your girlfriend is well-taken, however. I think... I don't have the authority to bend the rule about pregnancy from demonic rape, and wouldn't be inclined to use it if I did, but if you wish to negotiate for demonic impregnation as a reward, I can make some calls and have an answer for you at your first check-in."

"Good to know and, uh, definitely something to talk to her about--also she's a witch. Which might be relevant to the powers part, at least." And is part of why Lavinia is so confident she could make a demon have Regrets.

"In the sense that she has true magic?"

"Oh, yes."

"She would be the first natural awakening in centuries, if so. That's very interesting."

"--Huh. We always figured magic was rare, but..."

"The Queen's researchers have discovered how to stably spark an awakening, and we offer it as a reward, but it sounds like she has been a witch for longer than a few months so she isn't one of ours."

"Going on twelve years."

"Definitely not one of ours. How very unexpected."

"That would be why I don't really want to risk her going after you."

"The ability of a mortal to affect Hell's operations is still limited, but much less so this way, yes."

"I'm not worried about Hell's operations, I'm worried about individual demons getting hurt."

"Yes, that's a possibility, depending—ah—are you aware that mortal magic has reciprocal effects on the user? That is, one who casts for love becomes more loving, one who casts for greed becomes more greedy, one who casts to heal becomes more compassionate, one who casts to harm becomes more cruel?"

"I had considered it a strong possibility, given the state she was in when we met."

"...oh, dear." He opens his mouth, hesitates, closes it again, hesitates some more. "...I would like to ask what her particular trouble was, if it's not private."

"Oh, she'd been cursing people for money. Left her pretty nasty. I managed to drag her out of it by being so curious about magic that she remembered how passionate she was about magic-related curiosity and went back to doing more science and less cursing. ...Not no cursing, but making a shitty politician drop hot coffee on his lap on live TV isn't the same thing."

"I see." He shakes his head slightly. "...Returning to the topic at hand. Or one of several topics at hand. Yes, having at least one parent with magic will certainly help with many aspects of raising a half-demon child. We can also, as I mentioned, offer you your own magical awakening as a reward, though it's an expensive one."

"We'll see. I'd like it, certainly, but it isn't necessarily the most important thing."

"In any case I can't promise anything yet about the existence of this hypothetical child, though I'm optimistic."

"I'm glad to hear it. Actually, I have an important question that I maybe should have gotten to earlier: do the demon dreams feel like I just had a dream, or like things actually happened."

"That can depend on the details of the encounter, how long it was, how vividly you normally remember your dreams, and so on. If you have a preference, it's often possible to nudge things one way or the other."

"Because time-folding combined with high frequency and duration sounds promising, but I don't want my subjective experience of my life to be that the normal things that matter to me are comparatively short breaks between demon rape."

He waves a hand in an elegant understated gesture of vagueness. "Making allowances for what a reasonable definition of comfort looks like in this kind of situation."

"Sure. And I think the only sort of remembering hack falls under 'comfortably tolerate.'"

"Excellent."

Okay, so Memory Wipe, obviously, with the note for "blur" instead of "erase," and she goes back up to Mitigations and takes Frozen, and back down to Aftercare and pick up Revitalization and Perfect Cleanup because yes, please. She'd take Perfect Healing too, but Aurelia pretty much already has that covered. 

Encounter difficulty...hmmmm. She'll leave that one alone for now too until she looks through all the "details" options.

"It won't result in addiction from encounters alone. If you choose to seek these things out on your own time, we can't protect you from the consequences of that - or, we partially could, if you chose Perfect Healing; it's comprehensive enough to help with the physiological aspects."
