untitled goose thread
it is a beautiful day in milliways, and you are a horrible goose
Permalink Mark Unread

A good number of patrons are in Milliways right now - both the main bar area and the field outside. Several are enjoying a nice day by the lake. Conversation is generally pleasant, though there's a few sharp arguments. Security hasn't had to intervene in a short while, at least.

All in all, a very good day to be here.

The side door of the bar is bumped open.

Some people glance at the goose, but no one seems too concerned - there's also a unicorn over by the fire and a mediumish dragon watching the explosions out the window and a moody clump of shadows hunched over at the bar and a talking frog winning handily at a card game, after all. People seem to, indeed, have quite a few refreshing beverages, and more appear on the bar counter.

The goose hops up onto a barstool near some beverages.

One of the beverages is being utterly ignored, its condensation-speckled glass and shifting blue liquid sitting there forlornly as the one who should be drinking it faces away to chat with his companion, laughing and gesturing animatedly.

The goose grabs the glass by the rim and quaffs the entire contents.

The hapless patron doesn't seem to notice this right away.

The goose hopflaps down from the barstool and goes to lurk around the frog's table.

Frog: is in a nice, princely outfit, his coat a soft purple with golden thread. One of his companions has a dagger hanging off her belt, another a lumpy bag off his, a third a purse made of some sleek material with the top zipper opened just a smidge by his feet, and a fourth has a neon orange backpack covered in shiny buttons leaning against her chair. Orange backpack girl seems to be the frog's only main contender at cards.

In the background, the dragon starts debating astrophysics rather loudly with a red haired girl. The unicorn seems to be engaged in a drinking contest, or perhaps a taste testing of numerous beverages. Someone wearing colorful spandex flies slowly in through the main door, and stops to stare around. Someone over in a corner is trying to get a portable radio to work. A group of people shaped approximately like human teenagers runs down the stairs and out the back door, carrying what's probably sports equipment. Someone orders a picnic basket from Bar, and heads for the back yard. He of the stolen drink finally notices his poor, poor beverage, and gives a shout of outrage, but none of his companions seem to have seen the goose.

Backpack: contains a metal lunchbox featuring cartoon foxes, a couple of colorful notebooks, an orange thermos, some pens (orange) and some pencils (blue). There's a frog pouch, probably containing coins, fallen down one side. There's two paperback books, slightly foxed.

The goose removes the frog pouch and sends its contents rolling and clinking across the floor of the bar in all directions.

The girl startles and whips around. "Hey!" she shouts. "That's mine!"

Who's she talking to? Not this goose, surely, whose hand (beak?) is a royal flush.

Card players blink at the goose, given the goose apparently has a different sort of deck than they do, as the girl scrambles to gather up her coins and purse contents.

Hey, frog! Honk!

Permalink Mark Unread

"My word!" says the frog. "Is the translation effect working for you, friend?"

Permalink Mark Unread

It is definitely working. It is very clear that the message this goose wishes to convey is: honk.

Permalink Mark Unread

"What an odd thing to say..."

The goose makes a move only legal in 52-Card Pickup, then flaps off the table, snatches the lunchbox from the backpack while the girl is occupied at some distance, and starts carrying it (slightly burdened) in the direction of the side door.

Permalink Mark Unread

Shouts of outrage! The girl turns around and then starts chasing the goose.

Permalink Mark Unread

The goose can take a route underneath tables!

Permalink Mark Unread

Girl turns into a fox and follows, hot on the goose's tail.

Permalink Mark Unread

This goose on the loose has a caboose! Look both ways at crossings! Honk!

Permalink Mark Unread

There's quite a lot of pandemonium spreading! Unfortunately, the fox who used to be a girl seems aware the goose might make a break for it upstairs or out the back door, and she's more maneuverable than the goose. It's going to be quite the task, getting past her with the goose's prize still in beak.

The lunchbox thumps against a table leg and it pops open. The goose snatches up a pouch of berries and charges through the side door and through the legs of an unlucky patron just stepping into the bar from the sunlit yard.

Permalink Mark Unread

The fox favors rescuing the lunchbox and its other contents, permitting the goose to get away, free.

(Nom.)

And what might there be to see in this beautiful sunlit tangled knot of time and space?

Permalink Mark Unread

The berries are orange and taste, incongruously, like salmon.

The people outside have shifted a good bit. Some people are flying kites, over there. A group of people in a mixture of outfits from across time and space are having a picnic. Some teenagers are swimming. Some kids are chasing each other around under the watchful eye of a gryffin. There's a dragon flying around overhead.

It's a great day for a swim. (It's almost always a great day in Milliways.) Heading in the direction of the far side of the lake. (Which there are fewer eyes on.) This is perfectly normal waterfowl behavior. (Honk.)
