"Of course! Where did you think monsters got the gold you loot when you kill them?"

"You know, I kinda thought it came out of nowhere. Like XP!"

He wonders if it works like this back home, too.

Heading back along the road through Surewould Forest, it doesn't take long for them to find some monsters!

Robina points out a cave entrance off to the side of the road. "There's a group of basilisks that hang out in that cave. Shall we go see if they're in?"

"Ooh, yeah! Wait, are these the kind where you need sunglasses to talk to them safely?"

"Sunglasses? Right, if you're from another world I guess the basilisks you're used to might be a bit different. The ones we have here are big, ugly, crested lizards with the Stone element. They use sonic attacks, and have a poisonous bite that temporarily paralyses you for a few seconds."

"Weird! Ours are lizards, but not very big…"

He mimes holding something roughly the size of an iguana.

"… and they have a gaze attack that literally turns you into stone. But if we just have to not be mean enough to them that they bite us, that sounds way safer."

"We'll probably have to knock them out to plant the gold on them. But, based on how you did with those guards, you should be able to handle it fine!"

"Huh. Like a reverse burglary…"

That sounds scary but also fun! They should probably try to be really quick about it.

"I just remembered I have a spell to neutralize poison. But if the bite wears off in a few seconds, it might not be very useful."

"It's not really worth it, for this, no. Good to know for other things, though—there's not much in Surewould that's naturally poisonous, but sometimes bandits like to use poisoned weapons, and those can be nasty. Anyway, ready?"

Elan takes one deep breath.

"Yeah! Let's get reverse-burgling!"

"I mean, yeah. Let's get reverse-burgling."

Leaving Ash and Twilly just outside the cave entrance, Robina and Elan sneak in. The sunlight filtering in from outside doesn't make it very deep into the cave, but some kind of glowing moss or fungus on the walls provides just enough illumination that they don't trip over their own feet.

Robina peeks around a corner and nods. "The basilisks are here," she whispers. "Let's do this!"

Not having to think about where light is coming from is the best!

"Great!" he whispers back. Now to plant a bunch of clinky gold coins on some sleeping monsters… he'd better follow Robina's lead, since she's done this before.
