Theo and Sadde in Cardcaptorverse
Permalink Mark Unread

Almost two weeks pass. Sadde still has work, even if school's out, but they and Theo hang out a bit more. No new cards appear, and Kero seems to not think that strange, so Sadde themself doesn't care. And one day Theo gets a text in the morning: Happy birthday!

Permalink Mark Unread

Thanks! How did you know?

Permalink Mark Unread

Check your texting history, about three days ago.

Permalink Mark Unread

Starting to get a bit suspicious, he does so.

Permalink Mark Unread

Apparently someone used his phone to text Sadde about Theo's birthday, when the former remembered Theo had mentioned his birthday would be in two weeks.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, had they. Luckily, Theo's not particularly annoyed about it. It was for a good reason, of course.

Right. :P

Permalink Mark Unread

Doing anything special today?

Permalink Mark Unread

Getting cake and having a takeaway.

Permalink Mark Unread

I don't have work today...

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde, would you like to come over and have cake later today?

Permalink Mark Unread

Why, yes, so nice of you to invite me! When should I show up?

Permalink Mark Unread

A few hours, maybe? We haven't got it yet.

Permalink Mark Unread

The cake? We could go pick it up.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, that's actually a really good idea! Meet at mine and go from there?

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay! Be there in a bit.

Permalink Mark Unread

So Theo goes downstairs and plays on his phone, waiting for Sadde to arrive.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ding dong.

Permalink Mark Unread

The door is opened.

"Hey!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hiya! Let's go cakeward?" Whisper: "Is Kero coming?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sure!" he says, and then quieter: "I haven't told him yet, why?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"What do you think he'll think of getting cake?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I expect it'll be something along the lines of 'ooh, I have such a sweet tooth, get me a whole extra cake!'"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm sure he won't actually phrase it like that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I guess we can let him know that we're getting some, then? Maybe we'll have to get extra."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Probably a good idea! Is your dad home?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah – he's in the kitchen at the minute. He knows we're getting cake at some point, though."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I should go say hi to him while you tell Kero."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sure."

Theo goes upstairs and says, "Hey, Kero, Sadde and I are going shopping for cake."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Caaaaake!" he says, and he's in Theo's bag before Theo can blink.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that was pretty quick.

He walks downstairs and into the kitchen. "Ready to go?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah! Let's go."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Bye, Dad," says Theo, and off they go.

Bakery!

Permalink Mark Unread

Bakery! They get in line for cake.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Which one looks good? Personally... I'd choose any of the ones with chocolate."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It is your birthday." She leaves the line to examine some of the cakes on display—

when one of them practically jumps towards her. She narrowly escapes being completely caked.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo, chivalrous as ever, jumps back to ensure he's not caught.

"Whaaaaat the hell was that," he says to Kero, looking around at the other people in the store.

Permalink Mark Unread

"You'll have to pay for that," someone tells Sadde sternly.

Permalink Mark Unread

But it wasn't her...!

Except there's no way anyone would believe that, so she nods mutely.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero:

is a stuffed bear.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo keeps looking around nervously. Whatever it was, he didn't see anything obvious.

Can he meditate while standing up, without his staff out, by closing his eyes and trying to focus? Is that a thing he can do in the middle of a bakery with lots of people around? He can feign tiredness so people don't look at him too weirdly...

Permalink Mark Unread

Apparently he cannot.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde gingerly gets out of the way of the cleaning person, only to have another cake fling itself at her.

Permalink Mark Unread

"You! Out! Your friend will pay for those cakes, I don't want you to ruin any more!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"What? No way, it's not my fault! It's not hers, either!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sure, the cakes just happened to throw themselves at her," they say sarcastically. "She can pay you back later, now she goes!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"She didn't exactly throw them at herself, did she? She didn't even touch them!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Theo, I appreciate it, but you don't need to excuse my clumsiness," she says, giving him a meaningful look. "I'll wait outside."

Permalink Mark Unread

To outwards appearances, Theo appears to calm a little, but he's actually far from calm. He can't take it out on the shopkeeper, though; they don't know anything about magic.

He pays the shopkeeper for the damage, then goes over to meet Sadde, keeping a look out for any more flying cakes.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero stops pretending and says, "That was a—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Clow Card, yes. Any idea which one?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"No, it could be any of a number of them."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Can't you... glow... and work out what it was?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not while in this form, my sensing powers aren't good enough."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"We... get Windy out and hope she can do something? I'm guessing that's not what you were thinking."

Permalink Mark Unread

"No! I'm thinking we come back in the middle of the night like vigilantes!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Of course! That'd be perfect for us, since we're so totally vigilantes!" he says a bit sarcastically. "No, but seriously, eugh. I know we kinda have to, but still. Eugh."

Permalink Mark Unread

She giggles. "It could be much worse!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Please, don't say that. Because it seriously could."

... "Now, what are we doing about our very obvious lack of cake?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Get one elsewhere. Surely not all bakeries around are haunted by Clow Cards. No offence, Change."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yeah, but that was a hint for us to go there. And get cake," he says, starting to walk in a random direction and looking for another bakery.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Have I mentioned you have a very cute face? Because you have a very cute face."

Permalink Mark Unread

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Thanks? I think you might have?"

Permalink Mark Unread

She laughs.

Permalink Mark Unread

Bakery!

Theo gets in line. Hopefully no Clow Cards will appear here.

Permalink Mark Unread

They thankfully do not.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yay! Cake.

Permalink Mark Unread

Caaaake!

Permalink Mark Unread

"You don't seem too enthusiastic...?" Theo sorta asks Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't have a super sweet tooth, I can wait to be enthusiastic when we get to your place."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay."

And eventually they get back to Theo's house. It's not that far a walk, really.

"Daaaad! We have cake!"

He goes into the kitchen and places the cake on the table, opening the packaging. It's chocolate cake with chocolate icing and some white chocolate shavings on the top. Theo seems to really like chocolate... in small quantities... on his birthday...

Theo starts cutting pieces for everybody. His dad comes in to say "Happy Birthday" (again) and to take some cake, then disappears.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Gee, I wonder where you got your verbosity from."

Permalink Mark Unread

Guess what Kero is doing?

Permalink Mark Unread

"I know, weird, isn't it? I'm so chatty, and he's just not!"

Is Cerberus eating cake? Theo bets he's eating cake.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo is correct!

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde eats a little bit of cake.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo has a pretty big piece, because it's his birthday and he needs to fulfil his need to eat cake. Cake is a good way to celebrate.

Permalink Mark Unread

Someone will have to stop Kero before he eats too much cake.

Permalink Mark Unread

Here, it won't do to make Theo's dad suspicious.

"Speaking of which, you haven't told your dad, have you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Haven't told him what? … Oh, about the cards? Nope."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Why not?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm just not sure how he'd take it, really?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...really?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I mean, I've never tried telling him a few other things, either, but I doubt 'Oh, by the way Dad, I found some magic and now have to go on a few somewhat perilous missions to try to save the world' would go over the best."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I had a hard time convincing Mum not to come with me to fight the invisible magical threats."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Awwh!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Though I'm sure the minute we face anything more dangerous than a jumping bunny or naughty cake she'll change her mind and come with no matter what I say. Not that I'm likely to say anything, either, having a smart adult on hand is a pretty good idea no matter what YA fantasy novels might tell you. I mostly don't want to bother her until we get to that point."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, so far it's just been worrying, not ridiculously dangerous."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, there was that fight against the giant bird. And also the time when you do ill-advisedly tried to grab the magical jumping bunny with your hands and could have fallen to your untimely death. It could be worse, and probably will be, but I think we probably need to plan these things better."

Permalink Mark Unread

"There... there were, yep. Those are some good points. Do we have a plan for our... vigilantism?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't. Lacking a list of possibilities isn't much help. I think it's time we actually get Kero to list all cards in alphabetic order. Probably in your room. With pen and paper."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, and a quick description of each next to it."

They go upstairs to his room (with some cake!) and he grabs out a pen and notebook.

"Want to start listing the cards then, Kero?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Arrow, Big, Bubbles, Change, Cloud, Create, Dark, Dash, Dream, Earthy, Erase, Fight, Firey, Float, Flower, Fly, Freeze, Glow, Illusion, Jump, Libra, Light, Little, Lock, Loop, Maze, Mirror, Mist, Move, Nothing, Power, Rain, Return, Sand, Shadow, Shield, Shot, Silent, Sleep, Snow, Song, Storm, Sweet, Sword, Through, Thunder, Time, Twin, Voice, Watery, Wave, Windy, and Wood."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde whistles. "Did you get all that?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yep!" Theo says brightly.

Permalink Mark Unread

"We'll look at general usefulness later. Which of these seems likely to have thrown a cake at me?" She looks at the list. "Float, Move, maybe Arrow, Shot, um?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Arrow and Shot can't do that, but Cloud, Mist, Storm, and Shadow can. Float and Move wouldn't do that..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Are they able to do it remotely, or can they be invisible? I'm pretty sure I didn't see anything actually throwing the cake..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mist and Shadow could be invisible, and so could Move and Float, but Move teleports, and Float is usually very docile."

Permalink Mark Unread

"So, tentatively Shadow, with Mist as a second possibility and Float as a third."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That sounds about right. What's Shadow like?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's troublesome. It steals other people's and things' shadows to grow in power and it can become very powerful. If it's just activated, then it will probably cause a lot of trouble tonight, when the bakery's closed."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay, so it's probably a good thing that we planned to go back tonight," Theo says. He also quickly checks his and Sadde's shadows to check they're still there.

Permalink Mark Unread

They're still there. "And how do we catch it? It's shadow, how physical can it even be?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"You can't touch it, but it can touch you. You'll need to use Windy to entrap it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well... that shouldn't be too bad, right? Just... a ridiculous amount of property damage..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not to mention potential cameras being quite able to tell just who caused said property damage."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Mask up? And I'm not sure if people could really blame the wind on us, even if we were caught there, unless we were holding some sort of leaf-blower. I mean, they could try, like the shopkeeper did today, but it might be harder if they re-play the video and watch us not doing it?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, and do you think we'll be very unsuspiciously around, looking very quiet and innocent, while massive amounts of property damage happen?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"And Shadow isn't one of the invisible cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Didn't you just say that Mist and Shadow can be invisible?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"More or less. Shadow using its powers can be hard to see, because it's just a shadow, so if it pushes a cake then no one notices. But its actual manifestation is visible."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay, well, that still leaves us with the problem of how to go about this. If it's Shadow, what weaknesses does it have? Just turn a light on and it acts like a witch with water, or...?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Lights can make the shadows it's collected disappear, and only its true form will be left."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Which we will then need to cause massive amounts of property damage to capture."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay, so light is a good start then? Then we use Windy to try to trap it, and then that's done? That sounds a bit too simple, even if we do take into account 'plus lots of property damage'."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, the other two weren't exactly complex, and if we'd had time to plan them they'd probably have gone over pretty smoothly as well." Pause. "Well, Jump, anyway, I wasn't there for Fly, maybe you neglected to mention something that would make it really awfully impossible."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Nope, not awfully impossible, just difficult since it was so sudden and I only had Windy. What about if the card at the bakery is Mist? What are its weaknesses?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's probably not Mist, it would make the cake slippery and push it, not throw it like that. And it also sometimes corrodes things it touches."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Why'd you mention it then."

Permalink Mark Unread

Shrug. "It could be Mist."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sigh. "And how about... Float? Even if it is usually docile, what are its weaknesses? Needles?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...needles?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"If it's Float, asking it nicely should be enough to capture it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Float? You know, it might be a balloon, so try popping it with a needle? Or it could be a cloud..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's a balloon, actually, but it's a magical balloon, you won't be able to pop it. It would also be mean to try."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yeah, I'd obviously rather ask it nicely than attack it and try popping it, but... it was a joke."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde giggles.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo smiles a bit at that.

"So we're basically decided? It's Shadow, and we're shining light on it then getting Windy to hold it still? Who's bringing the torch and what time are we doing it, then?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"You."

Permalink Mark Unread

"A torch might not be enough depending on how many shadows it's collected."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... If we can find a light-switch in the shop, would that be enough? I mean, surely it'd still eat away at the shadows, even if it doesn't get rid of them all perfectly?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Maybe."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You're so helpful."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay, well, I think that's still our goal. Maybe you could use Change on the torch and make it brighter, too, if it's available."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's actually a pretty good idea!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Thanks!" he says, trying reaaaallly hard not to be sarcastic. It shouldn't be this hard!

Permalink Mark Unread

She can tell! "You're cute when you're trying not to be sarcastic."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Thanks!" he says, still reaaaally trying not to be sarcastic. Is it noticeable? Is he grinning adorably? Yes, yes he is.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I stand by my assessment."

Permalink Mark Unread

"So. Are we gonna do any other important things before the mysterious vigilantism, or just while half the day away?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Question Kero about the other cards, of course. I'm particularly curious about Time."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Actually, yeah, me too, and what about..." – he looks at his list again – "Illusion, Mirror and Twin?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Time can speed time up, slow it down, stop it, or turn it back. It's one of the most powerful cards, and you need a lot of magic to even use it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...can you use it to change time?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, but unless the person who uses it is very powerful, sorcerers retain their memories."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Whoa, wait, what! That's ridiculously powerful. And how does that even work, anyway? If someone used to it go back in time, would we just be younger versions of ourselves with the same memories, or would we have to wait until they made a change and have some sort of weird déjà vu of stuff that did-but-didn't happen, or what?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Young versions with memories."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okaaaay. Sadde, did you live somewhere obscure when you were younger? Will I never be able to find you if something like this happens? If you happen to wake up like 10 years in the past, could you please come to my house – I've lived here most of my life – and then can we try to stop whoever's messing with time?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes. I've lived in London most of my life, but I was born in Knutsford and spent a few years there before Mum left the jerk."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay. Well, hopefully we won't be that young. Actually, how does that interact, Kero? Do we still get our memories, no matter what age we are? Do we also get the memories we had at that age? Aaaand – this is a horrible idea – what if time is wound back to before we were born? Or don't you have any... data on that?" he says, looking a bit queasy.

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's never been used like that, and Clow himself said he couldn't turn back more than a month, but that might have been modesty."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's reassuring anyway."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, that's definitely good. It's way better than it could be," he shudders. "So, other cards. I asked about Mirror, Twin and Illusion?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mirror can look and act like anyone, and reflect attacks. The Twin can duplicate objects and people. The Illusion can look like anything, including different things for different people, if they are thinking of those things."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Those all sound really useful!" he says longingly. "Oh well. Windy and Change are pretty versatile too."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes they are!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"What about the others? Is there like... a quick version of what they do, how they group together, and things like that?"

Again, Theo has his pen at the ready.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Firey, Earth, and Light are under the power of the Sun, and me. Watery, Windy, and Dark are under the power of the Moon, and Yue. The Arrow shoots a series of magical arrows; it's under Firey. The Big can make anything bigger; it's under Light. The Bubbles creates bubbles and washes things—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hold on, what?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...Clow made that card to wash me."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo laughs at that.

"What do you mean, 'under the power of' the Sun and the Moon? You didn't mention them as cards, so they're not like how Fly is under Windy, are they? And who's Yue?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Clow Cards were created by uniting Western Magic, under the Sun, and Eastern Magic, under the Moon. Each card is powered by one of those, and I am the Guardian Beast of the Sun. Sun cards draw power from me, and I draw power from them, and I will have access to my true form once you have captured Earthy and Firey."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...and Yue?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...Yue is the Moon Guardian of the cards. He is dormant."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Is all magic one kind or the other? What's my kind?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not all, but most. Your magic is Sun. Theo is Moon."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Does that... mean anything? Am I weaker because Yue's dormant, am I weaker against some cards, and Sadde against others, or what?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"You will have an easier time using Moon cards, and they will like you more from the start, normally. Yue's power isn't connected to yours."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... What's Change affiliated with?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Dark."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks at Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hey Theo? With love: shut up." She does a little heart shape with her hands.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Are you trying to get me all flustered? Do I need to start fanning myself?" he asks sweetly.

Permalink Mark Unread

"That would not be an altogether undesirable outcome."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo raises his eyebrows and looks at her, then turns back to Cerberus. "What about the other cards?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Cloud creates and moves clouds and is under Watery. The Create can create anything—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It can not."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Anything you write in it, for as long as it's open and filled with ideas."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's a book, then? And that is one seriously overpowered magic. I kinda want you to tell me it takes a ridiculous magical strength, so we know that no-one else will do it, but I kinda don't, so that when we get it, we're the overpowered ones."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It doesn't take too much magic but if you spend too long without writing the things it's created disappear."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh. Can you just keep writing and the stuff stays, or do you actually have to re-describe stuff you've already mentioned to make sure it stays?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Keep writing."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay, so it's not too bad. And if something does disappear, you can always go back and write it out again, yeah? What about the other cards?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Dark consumes all light. The Dash runs really fast, faster than any other cards. It's under Windy. The Dream can create dreams, even prophecies when you have magic, and it's under the Dark."

Permalink Mark Unread

"How... does the Dark consume light...? Does it literally just absorb anything that touches it, or does it... somehow... make light turn towards it instead of going where it was before, so it's a sort of area of darkness?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Both."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm really happy that I never wanted to go into Physics. The Dash sounds like I'd probably get along with it quite well. And it's a moon card."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I wanted to go into physics but magic is cooler!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It definitely is. When people find out about it, it's gonna be such a huge shock."

Permalink Mark Unread

"We should probably first make sure there isn't like a shadowy conspiracy or clans of sorcerers that might take offence to us revealing it to the world."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Clans of sorcerers exist."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yeah, I don't want them to attempt to erase us from existence."

Permalink Mark Unread

"If Clow was as powerful as all that, we should be able to eventually resist being erased with the cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Shield would probably protect you from anything."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm pretty sure I want that card."

Permalink Mark Unread

"What counts as anything?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Anything."

Permalink Mark Unread

"And what about the other cards?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Earthy has earth powers. Erase can make things disappear—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"We'll never be able to work if every other card makes me go 'what.'"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It erases things temporarily, including people and memories, and they're erased forever if they stay gone for too long."

Permalink Mark Unread

"How about we just get them all written down, then you can come point at ones that make you want clarification, I'll mark them, and we can get clarification at the end? But seriously, what even is that card."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Fine, I guess."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Fight is under Firey, and teaches its user martial arts. Firey controls fire. Float makes things float, under Windy. Flower is under Earthy and makes flowers. Freeze can lower temperatures and generate ice. Glow creates glowing floating balls of light. Libra can detect lies and is under Earthy. Light controls light. Little makes things smaller, and can reduce magical power as well, and is under Light. Lock is under Earthy and can lock a place and seal it off. Loop warps space to create a continuous repeating loop and is under Earthy. Maze creates a pocket labyrinth dimension and is also under Earthy. Nothing can unmake anything, and isn't under any other cards or powers. Power gives strength and is just Firey. Rain creates rain and is under Watery. Return can send you to observe the past. Sand can create and manipulate sand and is under Earthy. Shot is under Firey and attacks someone until they are destroyed if you ask it to. Silent is under the Dark and makes things quiet. Sleep makes people sleep. Snow is under Watery and can create snow and snowstorms. Song can copy any song. Storm is under Windy and can create storms and tornadoes. Sweet is under Light and can turn things into sweets. Sword is under Firey and is a powerful magical sword. Through is under Firey and can make you go through things. Thunder makes thunder and is under Firey too. The Voice can mimic or steal voices. The Watery controls water, the Wave controls waves of water, and the Wood creates plants and is under Earthy. "

Permalink Mark Unread

"That... is a lot. Okay."

He writes a lot of notes on what to ask for each card, then goes through them, a few at a time:

"What sort of martial arts with Fight? Any? And with Libra, what actually counts as a lie? If you leave something out, does that count? What about body language, like if you shake your head when the true answer is 'yes'?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Any martial art, and Libra reacts differently to different types of untruth."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I honestly don't even know where to start," Sadde confesses, looking at Theo's notes. "I'll think of something and ask I guess."

Permalink Mark Unread

"So Libra does respond to lies through head-shakes, then?" he tries to clarify, and then continues with the long list: "How does Light control light? Can it act like Darkness, by just stopping light in an area? Little doesn't... like... obey the laws of physics and biology, does it? It won't kill people if you shrink them?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Right. Light isn't as good as Dark doing that, and no you can't kill anyone with Little unless you step on them."

Permalink Mark Unread

And yet more questions: "With Maze, does the pocket dimension change each time, or can you store things there and modify it? When you say Nothing 'unmakes' things, how does it unmake them? Explosively? What does it unmake them into?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's a different dimension every time. Nothing is like Erase but instead of making specific things disappear it just makes areas of things completely cease to be. It counteracts all the other fifty-two cards and is as strong as all of them together, and can make even magical things disappear."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay, wow, that sounds horrible to fight," he says. On with the questions. "What kinds of strength can Power give? Just physical strength, or also like mental fortitude? How do you observe the past with Return? Can you specify exactly where, or is it random and confusing? And shot just sounds horrible."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is kinda reeling from Nothing's description.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Power only gives physical strength, and Return sends you back to a point in time you choose. You need a lot of magic to use it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Surely it's not that bad? Kero basically said it's just Erase with a bit of extra juice and the ability to affect magical items, that's it." – Oh wait. What the hell, Theo? – "Nevermind, that's terrifying!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's terrifying," she agrees.

Permalink Mark Unread

Shrug.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, on with the questions, he supposes. He can freak out over some of the cards later on. Oh wait, no he can't, he's going to fight Shadow. He can freak out tomorrow, when it's not his birthday.

"How precisely can Silent make things quiet? Is there anything special about the properties of the sweets that Sweet makes, or are they just regular sweets?" he asks, and then actually thinks of another question. "... Why is Through under Firey?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Silent never told me what she could do. Sweets are just sweets. And probably because fire is intangible?" Another shrug.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay. I didn't realise you spoke with the cards to gather this information," he says, a little confused. He continues, "How... does Voice steal voices? What kind of plants can Wood make? Magical moving ones? Toxic ones? Ones that are really useful for making magical items when they've been cut down, maybe?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It just does? Wood focuses on trees, magical moving ones, but they disappear once you seal it away again. You can't turn them into anything."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Like... why and when does Voice steal voices? Does it just find people and go 'oh, that's a nice voice' and they are somehow now unable to speak and it can use their voice? Does it have to hear them and then it literally yanks some weird ball of light out of your throat? Does it make you unable to even comprehend the idea of you speaking? There are so many ways it could 'steal your voice', and so many reasons it might do it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It just does. There's no ball of light, the voice's just gone and Voice has it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"These cards go from 'harmless and cute' through 'useless' and 'freaky' to 'outright terrifying.' What's a card like that even for."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I guess if we had to fight other magic people who were using cards, we could try it to stop them from directing their cards verbally?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Silent can do that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't suppose it would let us control their cards instead of them? I don't know. It's a weird card. Seriously, was Clow evil or just... confused and evil?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Clow wasn't evil! The cards just do what they do."

Permalink Mark Unread

"And he couldn't direct them to do something nicer? I feel like we need to know more about how he created them. And 'he was the greatest magician of all time!' isn't an explanation of how."

Permalink Mark Unread

Shrug.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo just looks frustrated at the unhelpful response.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Maybe he couldn't? If magic is kinda sentient like that maybe transforming it into the cards wasn't exactly a very directed process."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, that's possible, but it's still annoying."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Careful, you'll end up offending more cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Is there any magic we should be able to do without the cards? Other than my weird speed thing, whatever that is."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Probably, but I don't know it. I'm an incarnation of the magic used to create the cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

The rest of the day proceeds without anything really important occurring. Theo wants to see if he and Sadde can target different things with Change at once, but unfortunately it seems like the 'only one thing at a time' thing applies to the card, not to them, so when Sadde tries to change something after Theo still has something targeted, Theo's one reverts. They have more cake. Kero has to be stopped from eating all the cake. Theo's dad continues to stay quiet, watching TV, and remains ignorant of the magic that's going on in the house.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually Sadde leaves, and they arrange to meet at the bakery late at night.

Permalink Mark Unread

Here Theo is, at the bakery, late at night. He asks Kero to try telling him when Sadde gets here, in case they don't spot each other immediately.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Pss!" The voice comes from a bush across the street. "I'm here!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Hm. Theo wonders who that could possibly be.

He goes over to the bush, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible, and says, "Hi."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hi!" she says, and she's wearing...

a black ski mask.

Of course.

Permalink Mark Unread

Of course.

Mind you, Theo's not much better. He's dressed in really dark clothing, including a hoodie that can hide his face.

"So. How are we getting in?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not the faintest clue! Maybe I could change the lock into something else?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea! I've got the torch," he says, holding up the torch, "– and also the cards. We find it, we turn on the lights, and then we trap it with Windy, yeah?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Plus copious amounts of property damage! Let's go!"

She glows—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and scoots over to the door.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero follows!

Permalink Mark Unread

So does Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Change!" he whispers, twisting the lock so it's... unlocked. He opens the door.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo stays quiet, but holds the torch at the ready, looks around warily, and tries to focus on his magic. It's a long shot, but can he maybe detect magic around him without fully dropping into meditation?

Permalink Mark Unread

Nah.

"So 'm I gonna change this torch into something more powerful?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh well, it was worth a try.

"Yeah, go ahead," he says quietly, holding out the torch.

Permalink Mark Unread

So he grabs the torch—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and a huge mass of shadow and darkness punches the three of them away from the bakery, throwing them back a couple of metres and sending the torch flying.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo lands, trying to soften the landing, grunting in pain, but is quickly back on his feet, blurring a little. He looks around for the torch, but it's so dark all around, he can't find it. Fuck. The plan. Turn on a light. Not happening; they're outside. Get Windy to capture it; infeasible, shadows all around, try it anyway. Shine a torch on Shadow. Not happening, the torch is gone. Fuck.

He grabs the Windy out of his bag, activates the staff, then summons Windy, tries to see where Shadow is, but oh for god's sake whose idea was it to fight the bloody Shadow in the dark.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde isn't as quick as Theo, but he glares at the oppressive darkness inside the bakery. "Come on! That's cheating!" He looks around for sources of light... well, there are the streetlights! He looks at them speculatively.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo can just about make out where Sadde's looking in the dark, sees the streetlights, and quickly suggests, "Can you change their direction? Intensity? Make them hand-held? Something?"

More things that they can use. They could try to make some ground glow, or they could try running at it and— nope. They could... use Jump? Not helpful. Fly? Not helpful. He runs over to Sadde and hands it over – he's not gonna use it – and ugh, another card would be useful right about now. No, he doesn't mean that; if the universe is listening to him and conspiring against him, please don't send another card to attack them.

"Windy, try to keep track of Shadow. Warn me if it gets too close!" There, now he hopefully has some early warning system, and if Windy can't do it, no loss anyway.

He has his staff at the ready.

Permalink Mark Unread

Windy stands/hovers in front of the door.

Permalink Mark Unread

The bakery is still eerily quiet and dark.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde manifests Fly and then uses Change on one of the streetlights, causing it to emit much more light than it should, effectively turning it into a spotlight. Then he changes it again, twisting it so it's pointing into the bakery. "Can't do both," he says.

Permalink Mark Unread

And the shadows produced by the streetlight are much darker and denser than they ought to be, that's for sure.

Permalink Mark Unread

When the streetlight shines brighter, Theo quickly searches for the torch again, but fails to locate it. Those shadows are worrying, but he already knew it was in the bakery, so it doesn't provide much meaningful data. Windy helps to confirm that at least Shadow (probably) hasn't moved, but there's still the problem that it's wild. Seriously, way to jinx a plan. 'What could go wrong,' they said. 'The other times just went badly because you didn't have a plan,' they agreed. That is not happening again.

Time for a daring move?

... Of course it is. Theo has a quick look around for a weapon. Wait, not a good idea, it can just be used as ammunition. Wait, yes, a good idea, Shadow already has plenty of ammunition inside the bakery. Do they have knives? Who's he kidding, of course they do. This just gets better and better. He picks up a small branch nearby, holding it and his staff at the ready. Disposable weapon that he doesn't care about, plus a potentially stronger magical weapon.

"Windy, can you shield me, somehow? Kero, any ideas?" he asks, trying to brace himself mentally for the inevitable battle to come. It's reckless, but maybe charging into the bakery with a weapon and Windy at the ready will let him drive it out of the building.

Permalink Mark Unread

"No? What are you going to do?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Windy leaves her post and envelops Theo, forming a whirlwind around him.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Good luck! Try to get the torch back!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm charging into the building," Theo says with a grim smile.

Taking a deep breath, he looks at the door, then decides to just get it over with.

He rushes at the door, moving far quicker than normal past the threshold, and then scans the room for the torch, a light switch... or a shadow to throw himself at.

Permalink Mark Unread

As soon as he's in, tendrils of darkness lash out, sneaking into Windy's whirlwind and being cut off. Some tendrils manage to hit Theo before Windy can do it, though, feeling like punches and shoves.

And with the light shining through the window and the thinning of the shadows due to the attack, both the torch and the light switch become visible, the former close to the door and the latter behind the counter.

Permalink Mark Unread

He looks overhead, making sure the lights aren't obviously damaged, then runs for the light switch, charging past the tentacles, aiming to turn it on. The torch would be nice, but it's better light up the whole bakery instead.

Permalink Mark Unread

Tendrils of shadow slip through Windy and wrap themselves around Theo's right foot, tripping him before Windy cuts them off and they dissipate. The darkness around the switch gets denser, it becomes harder to make out, as if there was something blocking out what little light the twisted streetlamp managed to shine through.

Permalink Mark Unread

He falls over – there's nothing he can grab in time to steady him – but gets up immediately afterwards, then continues towards where the light switch is. He can still remember where the it was, even if he can't properly see it. He manages to get within reach of it, and moves to turn it on, dodging away from another of Shadow's tendrils.

Permalink Mark Unread

The moment he does it, a huge mass of darkness crashes through the window—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and Sadde changes the streetlamp into a spotlight as soon as it does.

Permalink Mark Unread

It doesn't hiss, but it looks like if it could it would. The mass of shadow dissipates, leaving a hooded figure behind, writhing underneath the light.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Windy, trap it!" he shouts.

He runs to the door of the bakery, grabbing the torch, and then goes outside to near the Shadow, holding both the torch and his staff at the ready.

Permalink Mark Unread

She stops protecting him, flying towards the cloaked figure and entrapping it.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo slowly approaches, then swings his staff at the Shadow. "I command you to return to your power confined!"

Permalink Mark Unread

The figure starts glowing and returning to its card form where Theo's staff hit the air. And after it does it floats—

Permalink Mark Unread

—to Sadde, who takes it from the air.

"Um what."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um," agrees Theo, very eloquently.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero floats over to Sadde. "The card goes to whoever reveals its true form. He did it with the light."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh," he says, looking at it, then at Theo. "Trade for Fly?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks down at Fly, then agrees, "Yeah. I think they fit better the other way 'round." He hands Fly over to Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Awesome!" he—

Permalink Mark Unread

"Change!"

-she says as she gives him it.

Permalink Mark Unread

"We should probably get out of here," he says, looking at the damage to the store. He jogs over to the store, turns off the light, pushes the door back into position. "There, now it looks less like a huge fight went on here."

You know, except for the smashed window. And scattered debris.

Permalink Mark Unread

Speaking of debris:

"All that caaaaake!"

Permalink Mark Unread

She giggles and agrees, "Yes, we should probably go!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, it's pretty sad," he says, sounding solemn, then starting to giggle.

So off they go.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde says 'bye and goes home.

Permalink Mark Unread

When Theo gets home, he turns his laptop on and checks his e-mail. He finds that Sadde's bought him some music.

Ooh, thanks! he texts Sadde. I'm just downloading the songs to my phone now. :P

Permalink Mark Unread

You're welcome! Happy birthday!

Permalink Mark Unread

Goodnight!

Permalink Mark Unread

It's Monday afternoon when Sadde messages Theo with an I'm bored, entertain me.

Permalink Mark Unread

Wanna come over?

Permalink Mark Unread

Nah, I always do, let's go do something else.

Permalink Mark Unread

How about the mall?

Permalink Mark Unread

Sounds good! Which?

Permalink Mark Unread

He gives directions to a nearby group of shops, then adds, If that's okay?

Permalink Mark Unread

Yup! Meet you there.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ok!

Theo arrives at the mall and looks around for Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

He's already arrived!

"Hi."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hey. Anything in particular you wanna shop around for or are we just looking generally?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Generally! Is Kero with you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I... don't think so?" he says, somewhat uncertainly, looking around.

Permalink Mark Unread

His tiny head pops out of Theo's bag. "Hi!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde giggles. "Hi!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, cool, so now I don't even notice when the magic stuffed toy jumps in my bag." he says, grinning a little.

Permalink Mark Unread

"You only notice when I want you to."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo laughs a bit at that, then starts walking around, looking for something interesting to buy; he trusts Sadde will tell him if they see something they like.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oooh!" he says. Something has apparently caught their eye!

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks over in that direction, a little warily.

Permalink Mark Unread

There is a costume store! Over there. It has pink things and frilly dress and one absolutely stunning pink frilly dress with wings.

Permalink Mark Unread

Um.

... Yay?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Come on let's go inside!"

Permalink Mark Unread

What's this? Is this dread Theo feels?

Of course not; it's just a little costume store. Theo's much too secure to be worried about that.

He follows Sadde in.

Permalink Mark Unread

"We're gonna be mahou shoujo," he giggles, looking through the dresses. He stands behind one of the mannequins and asks, "What do you think?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I think... I'm really not sure about that idea."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Why not? I look dashing."

Permalink Mark Unread

"In a dress? As a magical girl? I mean, sure, if you say so..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I bet you'd look great in one of these! There should be a clothing card."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It'd be nice to get magical tailor-made clothes whenever, in whatever style I want, yeah. But if it's a card... wouldn't it disappear if I'm not careful?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Change doesn't, when I'm using it. If I ever learn how to make cards I'm making a clothing one and I'm gonna make you mahou shoujo outfits!" Pause. "And maybe I'd make it so they could disappear at an inconvenient time," he says, smirking at him.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, that'd make the card interesting, that's for sure," he says, laughing.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mmhmm, it definitely would. Now come, you should try one of these out, you can't be a proper magical girl without a magical girl outfit."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hah, no. I'm not a dresses kind of guy."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Come ooon, you'd look hot in a pink frilly dress with wings!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I really don't think I would."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well I would."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm not stopping you from wearing a dress."

Permalink Mark Unread

He giggles and walks around the mannequin. "I know. And I reiterate that you look really cute when you feel your masculinity's threatened," he says, and starts walking out of the shop.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo just ignores that. He follows Sadde out of the shop.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks over his shoulder and waits for Theo to catch up, then starts leading them to another shop (apparently) as he says, "You know, I think I know what I want as my prize."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Your prize?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"For successfully nettling you!"

Is he walking a bit closer to Theo than before? ...nah, must be just an impression.

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Um, okay?"

Theo doesn't notice anything amiss.

Permalink Mark Unread

They're walking fairly close to a wall, aren't they. Yes, they are. So it's not that hard for Sadde to suddenly push Theo against it and say, "You," leaning close to him, his face only centimetres away...

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo drops his bag when he's shoved into the wall.

Okay. Wait, what? Sadde... wants him as the prize? When did that happen? Have there been any signs? Of course there haven't. Or maybe there have. Theo wouldn't notice them! He had no idea!

He looks at Sadde's face, then into his eyes, then to his lips, and has a little freak out. He feels like everything's moving a million miles a minute, but also like everything's moving in slow-mo. Sadde? Really? Does he pull away? Does he try to slip out of the way? Does he turn his head? Does he headbutt Sadde or maybe shout in surprise? Just... what the hell?

He thinks about it. Kissing Sadde. He's... not actually as scared of the idea as he thought? Okay, sure, it's Sadde, but... it's Sadde. He notices something. His expression softens a little.

... How hasn't he noticed before that it's Sadde?

He starts to lean in.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, I'm sorry," Sadde breathes, keeping just out of Theo's reach. "I forgot how much your image matters to you. I'd hate to ruin it." And he pulls away, laughing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh.

Permalink Mark Unread

Giggle. "Come on, there's more shopping to not be done." And he resumes walking.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is Theo a little broken over here? It seems like he might be.

It takes a couple of seconds, but he seems to eventually start back up. He blinks a couple of times, not crying, dammit, no matter what anyone says, and then walks away, in the opposite direction.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks over his shoulder and—

"Hey, wait, where are you going," he calls, going after him and grabbing the bag he's forgotten on the floor for him.

Permalink Mark Unread

Why did it have to be teenagers. Clow has a twisted sense of humour.

Permalink Mark Unread

He keeps going. It doesn't look like he even heard Sadde.

The weird jerky movements from after he found out about his speed have returned, but they're not as obvious as they were before.

Still not crying, for god's sake! Stupid eyes.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde eventually reaches him, though, since he's actually sprinting. "Hey. You okay? Sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you so much."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo still isn't responding. It seems like his face is permanently frozen in an expression of shock, with the only change when he blinks.

Still not crying. It was obviously a joke. What the hell else would it have been?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hey, Theo? I'm really sorry," he repeats, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Permalink Mark Unread

When Theo finally notices how close Sadde is, he reacts. He spins around ridiculously quickly, knocks Sadde's hand away, and then growls out, "Get. Away."

He continues moving away from Sadde, this time much quicker than before. He looks like he's walking with purpose, but not in the direction of anything important.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde falls on his haunches, and stares at Theo's retreating form. He scrambles to his feet and runs after Theo again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks back, notices Sadde's still following, and speeds up. Apparently he can control his superspeed in some scenarios.

Permalink Mark Unread

Wait no he didn't mean that aaaaaand Theo's gone. Shit.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo has indeed gone. He's gone for quite a long way and has found a deserted space to hide away where he can get okay again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Which Sadde predictably can't find.

Theo gets a text: I'm sorry. Please don't be mad at me.

Permalink Mark Unread

No response.

Permalink Mark Unread

After a while: Your bag and Kero are with me.

Permalink Mark Unread

Still no response.

Theo returns home a bit before midnight.

Permalink Mark Unread

He'll find Kero and his bag in his room when he does.

Permalink Mark Unread

He walks past his dad, making a half-hearted effort to assure him he's fine, then goes to his room. He assures Kero he's fine.

He stays there all throughout Tuesday.

And Wednesday.

He does go to school Thursday, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde messages him on Tuesday. And on Wednesday. And on Thursday.

Permalink Mark Unread

No response.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero is neglected during those days. He has to actually go to the kitchen on his own to get sweets!

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde stops messaging Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo texts Sadde on Friday. Hey!

Permalink Mark Unread

...

Hi

Permalink Mark Unread

Up to much?

Permalink Mark Unread

...what the heck.

Not really.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, okay.

Permalink Mark Unread

.....................

Wanna hang out?

Permalink Mark Unread

Sure! You wanna come over here?

It might be implied that Theo wouldn't want to go out again, not just yet.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeah, sure. Be there in a bit.

Permalink Mark Unread

Who knows what Theo's doing in the meantime.

Probably nothing.

Permalink Mark Unread

So Sadde arrives!

Permalink Mark Unread

And Theo goes to greet him.

"Hey!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hello," he greets cautiously.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Done anything interesting since I last saw you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...school. Work. Flew around the block at night. The usual. You?"

Permalink Mark Unread

They go upstairs and to his room.

"School, too. Other than that, nah, not really."

Moping around. Not crying. That's totally not interesting, right?

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero appears from nowhere and says, "He's sad all the time he doesn't even give me food anymore!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"...do you even need food?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"No but it's the principle."

Permalink Mark Unread

He looks at Theo again. "...are you alright?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah? Kero's just being weird; I've been fine!" he says, all cheerily.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Theo," he sighs. "Look, just—talk to me? Please? I'm sorry. What did I do wrong?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, no, it's fine, don't worry!" he says, smiling, then throwing a quick glare at Kero, then smiling again.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I need to know, so I won't do it again in the future! I can stop with the masculinity thing, maybe I went a bit far. Or was it the kiss? I could promise to—well, that would suck, I guess, but I could promise never to kiss you, either. Just tell me."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo mumbles a little, stopping with the ridiculous smiling.

Permalink Mark Unread

"What?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It wasn't the kiss, okay?" he says, more audible.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well then what was it?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Another mumble.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Unfortunately we haven't captured the super-hearing card yet."

Permalink Mark Unread

"There's a super hearing card?"

He might be trying to avoid the subject.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Theo."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It was the lack."

Permalink Mark Unread

"The la—oh. Oh. Well why didn't you just say so?" he asks, and his arms are around Theo's neck and oop they're kissing now.

Permalink Mark Unread

Whoa, no, not what he meant. He starts trying to pull away for maybe half a second.

Then he realises that it's pretty much what he asked for and wants, so why the hell is he resisting.

'They're kissing now' indeed.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's not what Kero wanted. That's not at all what Kero wanted. Kero will float off somewhere and not be around the teenagers kissing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kissing.

Lots and lots of kissing.

Permalink Mark Unread

So Sadde may have accidentally pushed Theo onto his bed, so he stops and pulls away again, laughing. "You seriously spent a week moping because I didn't kiss you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Was that a noise that Theo made, when Sadde pulled away? Gosh. Isn't that interesting.

"I... It wasn't..." he tries, failing miserably, then decides to give up on any pretences. Who cares if he says what he means?

"It wasn't just because you didn't kiss me. It was because I didn't realise I liked you, you made me realise that, and then you pulled away!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"You like me?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Ugh!" he exclaims. Seriously?

Permalink Mark Unread

"You like me!"

Permalink Mark Unread

He turns over on his bed and makes another noise of frustration, though it's muffled by his pillow.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I've been flirting with you for ages and it took that for you to notice?" he asks, kicking his shoes off to lie beside Theo and nuzzle the back of his neck.

Permalink Mark Unread

... That was not a moan of frustration.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde smirks. "Pay attention when I'm talking to you," he says, and starts nibbling on Theo's earlobe.

Permalink Mark Unread

Another noise. "It's hard to talk when I'm being distracted!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde pauses. "Try harder." Then he resumes nibbling.

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay, yeah, he can totally do this. "Yesitdid," he manages to say.

His ear isn't so much of a thing, it's just that Sadde's right there, so he turns his head to continue makeouts. Mmm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Makeouts! Those are a good thing to continue. And maybe, just because of the very convenient way the two of them are positioned, Sadde's hand might start wandering and find the underside of Theo's shirt.

Permalink Mark Unread

They are definitely a good thing to continue!

Wandering hands are... not totally unexpected, and also definitely not a bad thing.

Permalink Mark Unread

There are wandering lips as well, finding their way down Theo's jaw and to his neck. "Did you think I was, what, just messing with you whenever I called you cute?" he asks, before delving into neck kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know!" he manages to get out, before making a few noises and pressing up against Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Pressing up against Sadde is a good way to find out exactly how... cute... Sadde thinks Theo is. Ahem.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ahem. That goes both ways.

Permalink Mark Unread

Unfortunately Sadde can't tell, since he's the big spoon and his hand is away from the evidence of Theo's thoughts on the matter.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's a shame.

... Theo can't bring himself to care that much. He's a bit preoccupied.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is he.

Sadde's hand explores up, up, up, and his thumb starts rubbing something, while more neck kisses and nibbles happen.

Permalink Mark Unread

Those can definitely keep going. Theo is going to want to reciprocate at some point, but yes, he's busy enjoying himself over here.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde—

stops. His hand is no longer under Theo's shirt, he's no longer kissing. He is still spooning.

"...isn't your dad here?"

Permalink Mark Unread

When Sadde stops, Theo just growls, frustrated, but then – "Oh, fuck. Fuckity fuck. Whatever. He already knows I'm into guys."

He decides that it's worth the risk, turns around to face Sadde, and starts kissing him again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's surprised by the kiss and then pulls away again, laughing. "I didn't expect that to be the problem, the fact that we're spooning and making out could be one!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"We're sixteen, age of consent is sixteen, he's probably busy, and it's a pretty big house, now kiss me," he says, twisting over so he can be more forceful, and pulling Sadde towards him.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooh, Sadde is not complaining. More kissing! And now Sadde is aware of the full extent of Theo's thoughts on the matter of his cuteness. Hi, Theo's thoughts.

Permalink Mark Unread

Hi, Sadde's face. Theo's thoughts are a bit slow right now, on account of kisses.

Theo starts exploring around Sadde's neck too, and his hands start trailing a path under Sadde's shirt.

... These shirts are getting annoying.

Permalink Mark Unread

Are they? Whatever shall they do about them?

Permalink Mark Unread

Leave them on, duh.

Oh, what a surprise. Both their shirts have mysteriously found their way onto the floor. That is such a shame.

Now that Theo has more freedom to explore, he's going to make the most of it.

Permalink Mark Unread

(Click here to skip the explicit content.)

Is he? Why, he might just find out a few differences in Sadde's reactions depending on what he's doing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, he has freedom to use his mouth as well as his hands. How about... nipples?

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooooh!

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that seems promising.

His other hand is just trailing along Sadde's chest, not doing much in particular.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's hands, on the other hand (har), are behind Theo's head and trailing nails on his back.

Permalink Mark Unread

So long as they're just trailing, that's fine. But since it seems like he has an intention to use them, Theo has an idea.

He runs his nails along Sadde's chest, instead of just his fingertips.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde makes such noises. The way he starts gripping Theo's hair a bit, not painfully, just—subconsciously, should hint at his feelings about what's going on.

Permalink Mark Unread

And if Theo digs his nails in a bit? Since these are such interesting noises.

Permalink Mark Unread

More interesting noises!

Permalink Mark Unread

Exciting interesting noises.

The way that Theo's positioned, Sadde should be able to feel how 'cute' Theo finds him, too.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes, he has noticed this fact a while ago. He thinks Theo should get back to kissing him now.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well in that case, kisses can be had!

Mmm. Kisses. Sadde's great at this.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes. Yes he is. He's aware of this thing.

And now it's his hand that's going wandery again, except since it already has a pretty good topographical map of Theo's chest it will need to find new places to explore.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oooh.

Theo is not objecting to those areas being explored at all. He starts nuzzling Sadde's neck instead, and continues with the nails.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yesss nails!

Sadde continues his exploration but finds that trousers are too constraining for his tastes.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's fine, they can go too. Sadde, meet tented boxer briefs.

Permalink Mark Unread

He is glad at having found this! Boxer briefs are much less constraining and he can play around those.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes, yes he can.

More nails: also a thing.

Permalink Mark Unread

He sure hopes kissing also continues being a thing. While he plays around Theo's boxer briefs. In fact, the nature of this playing might cause them to be... displaced.

Permalink Mark Unread

That...

... is also okay, after a bit of consideration. But Theo seems a little confused that Sadde's trousers are still a thing, so he removes them.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde turns out to be a briefs guy!

Permalink Mark Unread

That is a thing that Theo notes!

He may get a bit grabby.

Permalink Mark Unread

They are both very grabby, aren't they?

Permalink Mark Unread

They most certainly are.

But it's a delightful sort of grabby.

Sadde's briefs: also displaced by grabbiness.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde cannot bring himself to complain. Instead, he laughs and says, "If only you'd known this could have happened four days ago."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, quit reminding me. I already know I'm an idiot," he says, digging in with his nails even harder.

He's moved his head back down to Sadde's chest.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm going to keep reminding you for a while oh Theo-"

Permalink Mark Unread

That sound inspired Theo to be bold.

... So he moves even further down.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde closes his eyes and grabs Theo's hair. "Oh, yes."

Permalink Mark Unread

That's definitely encouraging. Theo definitely likes encouragement.

Permalink Mark Unread

There will be lots of encouragement going on. It'll not all be as verbal as it has been.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo is pretty happy with the job that he's doing. Sadde can probably tell how much he's enjoying himself.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is having trouble telling anything at the moment.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo didn't realise he was that good. No complaints, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, you know what they say, it's like pizza: even when it's bad, it's still pretty damn good. And in this case it's not bad.

In fact, after a few minutes of this: "Theo, oh fuck, I'm g—"

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh. Well, Theo's fine with that. And all he has on are some displaced boxer briefs, so...

He finds he's a lot messier than he was before. He gets up and kisses Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde kisses back, pretty enthusiastically. Then he giggles. "Wouldn't it be pretty funny if a Clow Card activated right now or something?" he asks, reaching down and squeezing.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Uh, no, it–" he starts, then yelps a little. "It wouldn't be."

Permalink Mark Unread

He laughs. "A little bit, it would," he says. "Now, I do believe it's my turn." So watch Sadde kissing and nibbling on Theo's neck and sssssloooowly making his way down.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooh. Theo definitely approves.

Permalink Mark Unread

There are also things Sadde would like to test. Like, say, whether there's any difference in reaction when he kisses, licks, nibbles, and sucks on different bits of Theo's chest and abs.

Permalink Mark Unread

There are definitely some reactions. Abs are definitely a reaction.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, then he might keep doing things to them!

Permalink Mark Unread

He's still getting a good reaction. There are other areas that give good reactions, but abs are definitely a good bet with Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Good to know!

Eventually, though, he wants to explore... other things.

Permalink Mark Unread

Those are definitely noises of approval.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde discovers that Theo quite delectable! He will demonstrate his appreciation of Theo's delectableness now.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo is happy that he's so delectable. He's very happy to just lie here, being delectable, squirming a little.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde will continue demonstrating this fact with quite a bit of enthusiasm, and it really shows that this is not his first rodeo.

Permalink Mark Unread

It really does. Theo has no complaints. He just sits there, making noises.

Enthusiasm is great.

Permalink Mark Unread

One of the ways in which it shows is the way he combines and mixes things up. Tongue, lips, and hands all have a crucial role to play.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually, that takes him over the edge. "Ungh, Sadde," he says, trying to warn him.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, yes, that's a good warning, it gives Sadde time to make sure his lips and face are appropriately positioned.

He licks his lips.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo's just gonna lie here for a bit, spent. He makes a few noises, which â€“ if you can interpret weak Theo grunts â€“ could be translated to 'oh my god', 'that was amazing', and 'why am I such an idiot?'

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde wipes some mess with his thumb and licks it, moving to lie beside Theo again. "Didn't catch that."

Permalink Mark Unread

He recovers a bit, then says, "We should've done this ages ago!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"And whose fault is it that we didn't?"

Permalink Mark Unread

... "Yours?" he tries.

Permalink Mark Unread

"...I have been flirting with you literally since the day we met."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... But I didn't realise it, so... um... Yeah, no, it's totally my fault."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes it is. Glad we've reached an agreement."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo just gives him a look.

Permalink Mark Unread

"What?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Nothing," he says, mostly truthfully.

He looks down and notes that he's still a bit messy. "Maybe we should go... take care of this?" he says, waving his hand.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, should we?" He reaches behind Theo's head with a hand for scritches, because he likes Theo's hair and also Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo might just have to kiss Sadde some more, in that case.

Mmm.

Permalink Mark Unread

That was entirely his intention! Kisses! Very very messy naked kisses.

[Manipulation skill: +1]

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually, Theo pulls away, and says, "Yeah, we should probably go get cleaned up."

Permalink Mark Unread

He grins. "Yes, that's probably a good idea."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo stands up, grabs his underwear and wipes himself off, then fetches some clean clothes and goes out into the hallway, in the direction of the bathroom. He stops, looking a bit embarrassed.

His dad's at the top of the stairs. He turns to look at Theo, notices his state of dress (or rather, lack of), and raises an eyebrow.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's wiped his face well enough, and was following Theo out when he saw Theo's reaction so he just pops his head through the door and grins, raising his right hand in a wave.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo's dad decides he probably doesn't want to know any more, and just goes back downstairs.

Permalink Mark Unread

"...well, that could have gone worse," he says, actually leaving Theo's room now that his dad isn't there to see Sadde naked.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo's a little bit red from the embarrassment, but that's quickly fading. He looks over at Sadde, taking in the view – his dad's made it clear he's staying away; he's got time to do this – then walks over to the bathroom.

And he proceeds to kiss Sadde in the shower.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's feeling so appreciated! He kisses back.

Permalink Mark Unread

He should be! Theo is very appreciative. Look just how appreciative Theo is.

Permalink Mark Unread

At some point they'll need to actually get cleaned up and such, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well yes, eventually. But it is a Friday night. They have plenty of time.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo should be careful what he wishes for, if they spend enough time naked in each other's presence Sadde might just want to make them messy again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well that's fine. Theo was a little bit worried about his dad finding them, before, but since that's no longer a concern...

Permalink Mark Unread

Is that so.

"Say, is this a thing that can only happen when I'm boy-shaped, by the way?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"This... is not exclusively a boy-shaped thing... but it might be a boy-shaped thing more?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well isn't it nice that today happened to be a boy day."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, yes it is."

See how nice it is.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde wraps his arms around Theo and rests his chin on Theo's shoulder. "Eveeeeentually we're going to have to discuss the 'like' thing."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Huh?" he says, only letting his confusion slow him temporarily.

Permalink Mark Unread

"The part where you said you like me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"What is there to discuss?" he wonders, his confusion slowing him down a bit more this time.

Permalink Mark Unread

"...there's a lot to discuss! Probably the shower is not the best place to discuss it but."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Uh, okay..." he says, looking even more confused and a bit apprehensive now.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde hugs him more.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo hugs him back, obviously a bit less into things than he was before, but not totally out of the mood.

Permalink Mark Unread

Pet pet the Theo. It's alright, Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeah, he knows it is. He's not gonna go back to random moping or anything. But the mood is a little dead.

He's still not sure what there is to discuss. He knows he likes Sadde – he thought that was pretty obvious – so what?

Permalink Mark Unread

So they should finish showering and get more comfortable in a place without water everywhere.

Permalink Mark Unread

They probably should.

Theo finishes showering, then gets out, dries himself off, and puts on a pair of trousers.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde dries himself off and proceeds to do no such thing. He left his clothes in Theo's room.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo is so disappointed by this fact. You can just see his visible disappointment.

Permalink Mark Unread

So they should get back to Theo's room, yes?

Permalink Mark Unread

... Yes.

They go back to Theo's room, and Theo sits on his bed.

"So?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"So," he starts, sitting on the bed beside Theo, naked as on his name day. "Um. Can you qualify the 'like' part?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um. You're hot and I like you?"

He seems really confused by the question.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yes but I was already hot and you already liked me before I almost kissed you, so there are probably qualifications to this feeling now."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yeah, you were, but I wasn't thinking that way. Don't ask me how the hell not. There are qualifications, but they're basically just that I like you, rather than that I'm friends with you."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm so enlightened."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know what else to say! I liked you as a friend, you made me think you liked me as more than a friend, and that made me think and then you were more than a friend!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well—am I? More than a friend? That's sort of what I'm getting at. How strong are those feelings, what are they, do they have labels, what are the expectations, what do you want to happen, et cetera."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I mean, I haven't thought about it, but if we're fucking, I'd think we're more than friends? Unless you don't want to be?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Such a bad mouth," he comments lightly. "In my experience, having sex and being more than friends don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. And I'd really like you to think about it!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't really know what to say – that didn't seem particularly reassuring.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm not saying I don't want to be more than friends, I'm just saying. It's not a given, in my experience, and I don't know what you want, if you want something specific, or if you just wanna go with the flow, or what."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um..." – wow, this is really complicated. Since when was Sadde the complicated one? – "I don't know? Just... go with the flow?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sigh. "Alright, we'll go with the flow. Is there something—like, do you expect, exclusivity? Should I start calling you my boyfriend or something?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I mean, exclusivity would be nice? It's not totally necessary, though...? And I don't know about the 'boyfriend' thing. Maybe?"

He hasn't really thought about this much. He hasn't really had much time to. He had a sudden change of emotions, got rejected, had a few days of moping, and then was going to try to ignore everything and carry on regardless, but this happened.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well he never really did get rejected, but.

"Not totally necessary is nice. I like making out with people." Pause. "And I kinda like the idea of calling you boyfriend, too."

Permalink Mark Unread

Felt rejected, then.

He smiles at the 'boyfriend' comment. Maybe he has stronger feelings on the topic than he thought.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde nakedly hugs Theo and plants a kiss on his cheek.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo hugs Sadde back.

Permalink Mark Unread

"So. Non-exclusive boyfriend and genderfriend?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, that sounds good. Do I just call you 'my genderfriend' all the time, or do I switch?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Whichever." Another kiss on Theo's cheek. Still hugging him.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh okay."

Still hugging.

Know what this is missing? Snogging. That's what this is missing. Let's fix that problem.

Permalink Mark Unread

Snogging! Yes! Sadde likes this development. Sadde might pull Theo so they're lying down on the bed instead of sitting. And then continue snogging.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo rolls over and then this time he's on top of Sadde.

More snogging!

Permalink Mark Unread

(Click here to skip the explicit content.)

Sadde is not complaining. Look at all this lack of complaints! He is definitely completely 100% unbothered by Theo being on top of him, snogging.

...he's a bit bothered by Theo's trousers.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, in that case, Theo's trousers can go away and stop bothering Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde doesn't know why they even got there in the first place.

Mmm kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo was expecting the conversation to go on a bit longer, what with all the 'we need to discuss something'. But he is not complaining that that's over.

Are those nails? Why yes, yes they are.

Permalink Mark Unread

And those are some very pleased noises again. Theo might eventually be able to build a dictionary of those.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooh. Won't that be fun.

He might need to record some of them if he wants to remember them precisely enough, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

He could perhaps suggest that to Sadde, who he might find is not altogether opposed to some recording going on for later appreciation.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well that could be a thing they do, eventually. Right now, Theo's not actually planning on making the dictionary. He's too busy with the kissing and the nails.

Permalink Mark Unread

The kissing and the nails are very appreciated. However, unlike Theo, Sadde can in fact think while being... well. In this situation. He moves his kisses down Theo's jaw and up towards his ears and whispers a question.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well. That is... an idea. Theo's not sure he's ready for that yet.

"Uh, I d-" he starts, shivering a little as Sadde continues. "I don't, but ma- maybe some other day?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm a very responsible slut, however. I do. If you have any other objections, though, that's fine." And he resumes the kissing and nibbling of Theo's neck.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Uh, y- yeah," he says a bit breathily. "Maybe some... some other day?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's alright," he reassures Theo's neck. Still, the conversation does cause some excitement in a certain relevant region.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes. The relevant regions are definitely excited.

Theo's getting a bit grabby again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is he, now. Sadde's lower body might move in response to that.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's a good response. Theo kisses around Sadde's jaw, and then continues the snogging.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's hands are free to pull him close, sliding on Theo's back as he returns the snogging and produces noises of appreciation.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well. Since those noises are so... interesting, Theo nibbles around Sadde's jaw and moves downwards again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde stops him. "I think I have another idea," he laughs. "Lie on your side."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay..." Theo says, and he moves to the side of Sadde, doing just that.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde does the same, except he turns so that he and Theo are facing each other's... well.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh. Right.

Yeah, that was a good idea.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde has those!

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde most certainly does! And Theo has bucket-loads of enthusiasm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde has enthusiasm and experience.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well that's definitely nice. Maybe Theo will learn a few things, and maybe he'll use them back.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde really appreciates this! Theo is so good at learning from example.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo really enjoys being appreciated.

Permalink Mark Unread

So many noises! Sadde should have come better prepared for this, there are a few things he can't try because of lack. Oh well. He'll do what he can with what he's got.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde definitely seems to be doing a good enough job.

... Because, well. Yeah.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde makes sure there's no mess this time.

Well. At least on his end. Theo's is up to Theo...

Permalink Mark Unread

... And you know what? Theo's feeling adventurous today. No mess here either.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, now it's kiss time! Sadde returns to his original position after making sure messes won't happen and it's definitely time for kissing.

Permalink Mark Unread

It is definitely time for kissing! Interesting kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

Definitely interesting. And tasty.

Permalink Mark Unread

While they are interesting, Theo's not sure he'd call them tasty, but Sadde's definitely not bad.

Mmm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde was mostly being metaphorical.

"...say, this is your first time, isn't it?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Yeah? I'm only sixteen."

Permalink Mark Unread

"So am I."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well yeah, but you've been sixteen for longer, and I wasn't really motivated enough to try it before I turned sixteen."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...my first time was a while longer ago than that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay."

Permalink Mark Unread

He kisses Theo's nose. "Guess I'm gonna have to teach you a thing or three."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo grins. "That's fine by me!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Quelle surprise," he says, butchering the pronunciation.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Very surprising, I know."

Was that a slight grimace at the pronunciation? Of coourse not.

Permalink Mark Unread

He giggles. "I did say I can't speak any foreign languages for the life of me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, but it's pronounced 'Quelle surprise'," he says, pronouncing it like 'Kell soo-r-preez'. "That's not that difficult? The 'u' and the 'r' in 'surprise' are just like... uh..."

Turns out it's actually pretty difficult to explain it through English words.

"Okay, no, I get it."

Permalink Mark Unread

He tries it anyway. And continues failing.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, don't worry. The 'R' doesn't appear in English, but I didn't think it was that hard to pronounce."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, not one of my many strengths."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You could try German? The pronunciation isn't too difficult? Or maybe Japanese... that has fewer vowels?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's not just the pronunciation."

Permalink Mark Unread

"The vocab is pretty difficult, I guess? ... and the grammar. And things like politeness pronouns. Okay, I can see why you wouldn't like languages."

Permalink Mark Unread

He laughs. "I don't dislike them, I'm just very not-good at them."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh well. Lucky I'm good at them, I guess? If anything comes up."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Like what?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know? Maybe we meet some French person with a card, and for some reason they speak no English at all, and: yay! I can speak some French, so we're not totally stuck."

Or, you know, after all the card drama is over, they can holiday together. If they're still together. And alive.

Permalink Mark Unread

"My mind has just gone to the gutter."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Why?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Because there must be so many things you can do with your tongue, speaking languages like that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's an interesting connection to make..." he says.

Oh look. They're still naked.

Permalink Mark Unread

"There are so many things we haven't tried yet, some of them involve this."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo blushes a little at that. "Uh— um. I mean, uh, there are..." he says, then laughs a bit nervously.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Aren't you adorably cute when you blush."

Permalink Mark Unread

He still doesn't know what to say. He settles for, "Um."

Was that another nervous chuckle? Why, you might think Theo's embarrassed by the suggestion.

Permalink Mark Unread

"What did I do to cause this? I want to do it more."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know! And I'm not sure I want it more!" he says, still sounding a little... nervously giggly.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well now he's just begging for giggly kisses. "I'm going to find new ways to embarrass you, don't worry."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo ignores the horrors of embarrassment by returning the kisses.

It seems like he really likes kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yay! Kisses!

"So, can I convince you to use the pink staff with wings, now?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, no. You can keep that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't actually have a staff. Come on, you'd look awesome, and you'd fly, and your image is already great, you're super hot, you don't need to worry about how it'll affect that!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I still don't like the pink. Or the wings on the pink staff. If it just sprouted the wings on my back, that'd be fine, but no."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You're the cardcaptor! You'll need to, like, have cards! And use them! So you can avert the end of the world!" Pause. "Or I could carry you around."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... I prefer that idea."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...really? Alright, then."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Something wrong? Didn't you expect that?" he asks, smiling, then decides to resume kissing Sadde. This might make it difficult to get a response, but he was being rhetorical anyway, and kisses are more important.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde giggles and kisses back, but then pulls away to say, "I did not expect that, indeed!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, it's good that I'm not getting predictable," he says.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mmhm! ...and it's getting kinda late, I should either go home or message Mum to tell her I'm not."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Do you wanna get your phone then?" he asks, hinting at his preferences.

Permalink Mark Unread

"If I'm staying we're gonna need to get food. Which will mean interacting with your dad."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... That is true. But if we're boyfriend and genderfriend, he should probably know, so it'll have to happen eventually..." He then starts kissing along Sadde's jaw and neck.

Has Theo totally forgotten about the incident from earlier? He might have. Or maybe he's just distracted.

Permalink Mark Unread

"He might have already guessed something along those lines," Sadde says, hugging Theo close to him and shuddering due to kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo stops to say, "Probably," and then continues kissing his way around Sadde's chest, again.

Looks like he's not hungry for food.

Permalink Mark Unread

(Click here to skip the explicit content.)

Sadde laughs. And then hmmms. And there may be other noises involved. "We've just gone at it twice," he points out, and is interrupted by his own involuntary noises.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Turns out I'm a teenager, sue me."

This is fun. Why would anyone want to stop?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Rather not," he says, and bites his lower lip, making soft moaning noises.

Permalink Mark Unread

Wow, Sadde really has some great reactions to chest exploration.

Theo stops, because he's a tease, and says, "How about that food then?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde groans and pulls Theo for a kiss.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo kisses back for a bit, then pulls away and says, "I thought you were hungry?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah. Yeah I am. But I kinda..." He pulls back a bit so he can very obscenely look at Theo's body, trailing him up and down with his eyes. "Am very comfortable where I am."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo rakes his eyes back over Sadde's body in response. "Oh, are we?" he asks in a low voice.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo's back in for more kisses.

He's also pretty excited. Note his excitement.

... It's a good thing his dad's so busy.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kisses! Excitement! Sadde reaches down and excites their excitements, together!

Permalink Mark Unread

That is... very exciting!

Theo approves.

Permalink Mark Unread

Fantastic! Sadde rather likes Theo's approval, and even more noises are produced.

Permalink Mark Unread

Noises are great. Did Theo mention that? They're also being produced by Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Great! So many noises! And kisses. Because Sadde can definitely multitask.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's good. Theo can too, usually, but he's a bit overwhelmed right now so he's just melting into Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Fantastic reaction! Melting is what he's going for, here. Kisses and enthusiasm and melting.

Permalink Mark Unread

Enthusiasm and melting can be found right here. Kisses too, but still the multitasking is impeded by melting.

Permalink Mark Unread

Melting. Lots of melting. Melting is a thing that is going on. They will need another shower or something.

Permalink Mark Unread

They both will, that's for sure.

Theo's kinda spent. He'll just lie here against Sadde for a bit. Neck nuzzle.

Permalink Mark Unread

Neck nuzzle. Being spent. Snuggle. Messy snuggle. Mm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually Theo wakes up a bit, and suggests they go shower and get some food.

Ugh. That involves clothes.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeah. Horrible, horrible clothes. But shower first.

Permalink Mark Unread

Shower first. With more kissing and some washing each other down.

Then clothes. Can Theo get away with just trousers? Does he have to put a shirt on? Uuuugh.

Permalink Mark Unread

As far as Sadde's concerned, Theo could go naked all the time. But since this isn't Sadde's house, he himself has to put his on.

Permalink Mark Unread

Whatever. Trousers and a shirt it is.

There's a conspicuous lack of anything else.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is that so. Sadde may have to snog him a bit more before they actually go downstairs.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's fine. It may make it a bit awkward when they do finally pull apart and go downstairs, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is that supposed to be incentive for Sadde to wait a bit before pulling away or...? Because Sadde quite enjoys the result.

Permalink Mark Unread

It can be an incentive to keep kissing for a bit, but then Theo actually is hungry, so he pulls away. "How about that food then?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, alright. Let's get food. So what does your dad do all day?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Office stuff. He's usually works there, but sometimes he works from home instead."

Permalink Mark Unread

"'Office stuff.' Vague, much?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah? He does a bunch of consultant work. It's pretty varied."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mmhm. Let's go eat, then."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah."

How good it is that they had that distracting conversation, because Theo's dad is in the kitchen. He seems to be busy with some work on his laptop, but looks up briefly when Theo and Sadde enter the kitchen.

Theo grabs some food. Nom.

Permalink Mark Unread

Om nom nom...?

...?

Seriously? Theo's dad won't even... like? Do something? Theo had been naked there and Sadde had been very visibly at-least-shirtless and?

Permalink Mark Unread

Apparently not.

Maybe they'll have a conversation about it some other day?

Whatever the reason, Theo's glad for the lack of interrogation.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is a bit concerned that this might spell trouble once he's gone and the two of them have had time to talk about it without him there.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo smiles at Sadde reassuringly. It won't be too bad; his dad already gave him The Talk, so he had to expect something like this would happen eventually.

Permalink Mark Unread

In his house? With him around? Well, maybe Laura isn't that unique about it, then.

Permalink Mark Unread

Maybe the talk will be about that, then. Theo can just imagine it now: Hey, son, I'm okay with you fucking him, but can you please just keep it to while I'm not in the house?

(It wouldn't go quite like that.)

Or maybe Theo's dad just doesn't want to embarrass Theo in front of his... friend.

Theo notices he's been quiet for quite a while, and says, "So, um... Done anything interesting at school?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde laughs at that. "Not really. It's just school. Hung out with friends, watched boring easy classes. That stuff. You?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Nah, we're not doing much right now. Just looking over some of the pre-release stuff for the English Language exam, and we've practically finished the maths course already, so it's all really boring."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sounds it."

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo's done eating. Is Sadde done too?

Permalink Mark Unread

Yup, he is.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well then, after clearing away the dishes, they can go back up to his room.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes, they can.

And once back in his room, Sadde closes Theo's door and pushes him against the wall, because apparently he liked that enough that it made him notice his feelings.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero clears his throat.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo reciprocates the kiss. Mm-

-and then he jumps. "Yeah, what?"

Sigh. And it was so nice while it lasted.

Permalink Mark Unread

"There is a Clow Card active."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Ugh! Do you know where?"

Turns out he really doesn't like kisses to be interrupted. Who'd've guessed?

Permalink Mark Unread

"No."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...is it destroying anything?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Should I try meditating then? I'm not sure I'm gonna get any more detail than you, but we can't do anything about it if we don't know where it is."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You could try that, your meditation is less limited than mine."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay then," he says. He gets the Key out of his jacket pocket, activates it into its staff form, then sits down, trying to focus on his magic.

... He's a bit distracted. This might take a while.

Permalink Mark Unread

...Sadde's annoyed. Look at him, being annoyed. Why does the apocalypse have to get in the way of snogging? This is unacceptable. But he resists the temptation of distracting Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually he forces himself to focus, and successfully puts thoughts of Sadde out of mind.

Permalink Mark Unread

And soon the familiar environment appears, with the cards floating and their real forms floating behind them. Kero’s magic is recognisable, as is Sadde’s—they’re very similar, and very distinct, in a strange way. And nothing else, for a while.

Until there’s something. A flash of light, somewhere in the distance, of fire.

Permalink Mark Unread

It seems to be similar to Kero and Sadde's magic, in a weird sort of way, and so it doesn't startle Theo that it's fire. He keeps focusing on it, trying to get a location more precise than "approximately that way".

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually he does. It doesn't get more precise than "exactly that way, approximately that far away," but Google Maps should be enough to determine any missing details probably maybe.

Permalink Mark Unread

He stops meditating, pulls up a map on his phone and locates the approximate area, and hands it over to Sadde for him to peruse.

Then he quickly gets changed, because they're going out to find a card, probably running about while attacking it. Now is not the time.

Permalink Mark Unread

He watches Theo get changed, and has to resist an urge to attack him again. Park. The card's in a park. Right. "So... do we go through the window or what?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um. It's not too late right now, so we can try going out the normal way? I don't think he'll be too concerned..."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Your father's pretty cool, huh. And I should probably text Mum about it." So he grabs his phone and does just that.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, I mean, we can just pretend to be going for a walk..." he says, blushing a little.

Permalink Mark Unread

"A walk. That makes you blush. You're adorable." Ding! Message. "Mum's asking if we know anything more about the card?"

Permalink Mark Unread

That just makes him blush more.

"Uh, it felt kinda like you and Kero? Sorta like fire. ... Which is concerning, now that I think about it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Hmm, could be one of the Firey cards..." He texts Laura this, then sighs. "Mum's coming with. Guess it's time to introduce you."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh. Okay."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I texted her the address, she'll meet us there in half an hour. Let's go?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah. Okay," he says, moving to go downstairs.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde follows!

Permalink Mark Unread

So does Kero.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo's dad is still in the kitchen when they get down there.

"Hey, Dad. Sadde and I are gonna go, um, go for a walk, if that's okay?" Theo asks, trying to sound nonchalant and totally not blushing.

"Oh, ok. Don't get back too late, though," his dad responds.

... And that's apparently it. Theo goes outside and starts moving in the direction of the park from the map, walking in step with Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde takes Theo's hand.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo grins in response. Is it clear how much he likes Sadde? He thinks it's clear.

Permalink Mark Unread

"You were bluuuuuushiiiiing!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo tries to explain why, but just makes a sort of stuttering "uh" noise, then blushes more.

Permalink Mark Unread

"So eloquent."

Permalink Mark Unread

He laughs at that. "Yeah, I know."

He seems content to just walk leisurely, hand in Sadde's. Are they aiming to get to the park anytime soon? Theo might need some prompting.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde might pull him to walk faster if he thinks they're taking too long.

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay then.

They finally reach the park. Theo looks around for anything obviously card-like; Sadde will probably tell him if they see their mum.

Permalink Mark Unread

And there she is. She notices the two of them holding hands, pauses, and says, "Hello. Is there anything you want to tell me?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks at his hand, then Theo, then Laura, and grins. "Oh right I forgot, we're dating now."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I see. Well, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, Theo."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Uh, hello," he says, giving Sadde a look. "It's, um. Nice to meet you too."

Permalink Mark Unread

"So, we need to find a card here, right? One of the fire ones, that's Sword, Arrow, Fight, Shot, Through, Thunder, and Twin?"

Someone's done her homework.

Permalink Mark Unread

"And Firey itself. I think Thunder and Firey would be pretty obvious so probably not those."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah. Shot attacks things a lot, doesn't it? I don't see anyone screaming about murder, but it's probably not that? I'm not sure about the others."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Arrow would be very aggressive, too, and both Fight and Through need a host."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...you must be Cerberus."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes. Nice to meet you."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay, so if we find someone using magic, it could be Fight or Through, but otherwise it's either Sword or Twin? What did they do again?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Fight makes you good at fighting, Through lets you become immaterial, Sword is a sword, Twin duplicates things."

Permalink Mark Unread

Laura looks at Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

He shrugs. "Alright, let's go look, then, shall we?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, I guess so," he says, and starts looking for any ongoing fighting, mysterious duplication or suddenly appearing objects.

Permalink Mark Unread

None seem present.

Permalink Mark Unread

Laura silently looks for anything unusual, with the understanding that her lack of magic probably means she will miss obvious things.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde goes over there to look for stuff.

Permalink Mark Unread

Aw. End of hand-holding. It's okay, though. They're doing something important.

You can tell what Theo thinks of that.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes. Yes you can.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde finds a shiny thing and picks it up.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo finds no shiny things. He also finds no intangible things, and he finds no weirdly duplicated things.

"Any idea where the card is, Kero?" he asks.

Permalink Mark Unread

It may be that rapier with the wing-shaped guard Sadde's stabbing at Theo with.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, what the fuck?" he shouts, jumping away from the sword. He runs away from Sadde, keeping out of reach, and pulls out his key, activating it into a staff.

Permalink Mark Unread

...that's not her child. "Sword, then," she says. "It would have been nice to be informed that it could take over people's minds," she mutters, looking around for something to get that sword away from Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde continues mindlessly trying to stab at Theo.

He's a much better fencer than one would expect given his complete lack of previous experience.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo manages to grab Windy out of his bag, and activates her, shouting "Windy!" and tossing the card in front of him. "Restrain him!"

Permalink Mark Unread

It tries, oh, how it tries—

Permalink Mark Unread

—but apparently the magical rapier can cut through wind, who'd've thought? Sadde's eyes are blank as he slashes and steps forward with unprecedented grace, avoiding the worst of Windy's attack and cutting through everything else, continuing to increasingly close the gap to Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay, that is worrying.

Time to try the stereotypical thing?

"Sadde?" he says, hoping that it'll trigger a change. "Sadde!" he repeats, continuing to back away; if it doesn't work, he doesn't want to be sliced, thank you very much.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeanope. Stab stab!

Permalink Mark Unread

"Baby? Let go of the sword," she tries. She spots a likely looking stick over there, maybe...

Permalink Mark Unread

Maybe, but Theo's not focusing on the potentially helpful stick right now.

"Sadde?" he tries again, slowing down so he can focus a bit more. He pulls out Jump just in case.

Permalink Mark Unread

Who'da thunk, Sadde is still closing the distance and trying to murder Theo!

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay, so trying to appeal to the side of this thing that might still be Sadde is probably a lost cause.

Theo uses Jump and flings himself away from Sadde, looking around for a weapon. How about that stick?

Permalink Mark Unread

Laura gets there first and tries hitting Sadde's sword hand with it.

Permalink Mark Unread

He parries and starts pressing the offensive against her instead.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo gets another, shorter stick. It might not be as good, but it's better than nothing.

He looks back over at the fighting, notes the situation, and decides to just jump right in. Literally. He propels himself forwards and kicks Sadde in the chest.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's thrown away, but he rolls with it, getting back to his feet very quickly and skipping from one foot to the other. He stops, assessing the situation, and then charges again, and now he's not just quick, he's supernaturally quick, getting much more impulse from kicking the ground than he should have.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well that's okay, Theo can also do supernatural speed.

... Sometimes. And apparently now is not one of those times.

He shouts for Windy to try harassing Sadde, buffeting him with wind, and then repeats the move he did with Jump, since it seems like his best option for now. He kicks Sadde again, then manages to right himself and runs over with his stick, trying to hit Sadde's sword arm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Haha no, the same trick won't work twice. Sadde braced himself for the kick and didn't actually stumble, using the momentum from the kick to twirl around and go after Laura, slapping the stick out of her hand. The Sword is a rapier, so no cuts happen, but Sadde is strong enough (or maybe the card is) that it'll definitely leave a mark. His movements are fluid, and he dodges Windy's attacks like they're not there, dancing between tendrils of wind and slicing at them to parry.

He jumps back from Laura and Theo after she's dropped her stick, not actually looking between either of them, and starting to hop from one foot to the other once more.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, damn.

He has another idea. He hasn't used the Shadow since capturing it, even though it's been nearly a week – blame the crying – but it might be able to help here. He holds the card out and summons it, saying "Shadow".

Permalink Mark Unread

There it is.

Permalink Mark Unread

Stabby stab—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and Laura is out of the fight.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde twirls, turning to face Theo again, ignoring Laura's slumped form.

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay. Stupid, malicious magic. He glances at Sadde's mum quickly, sees she's out of the fight, and turns to look at Sadde, a menacing look on his face.

"Shadow, help Windy and grab him."

Permalink Mark Unread

It does, but it uses its comparative advantage. The hooded form melts into the shadows of the trees projected by the lamps. As Windy continues trying to hamper Sadde's movements, the shadows on the ground move, followed by an equivalent movement of the trees themselves. And even though they don't actually touch Sadde, their shadows touch his, limiting his movement in invisible and unpredictable ways, causing him to stumble and lose his balance.

Permalink Mark Unread

With that distraction, Windy manages to encircle Sadde's arms and legs, her tendrils holding him in place.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's useful. He knows it's not going to be as easy as this, but still, he runs at Sadde and starts the capture mantra, aiming to hit the sword with his staff.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde expertly twirls the sword in his hand so it's actually pointing down and drives it towards himself—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and Windy lets go, trying to push him away from the Sword—

Permalink Mark Unread

—and Sadde quickly recovers his balance, gripping the sword the right way again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Okay, that is not cool.

He studies the situation for inspiration, his eyes taking on a more calculating look. He should've done this much earlier, but apparently he was too busy rushing into things. Sadde's mum is over there, on the floor, wounded, possibly dying. Sadde is possessed by the Sword, and doesn't seem to have any ability to stop it. The Shadow can affect the movement of other objects by grabbing ahold of their shadows. He has the Jump available if he needs to quickly get away, and Windy is usually pretty all-around great for capturing cards, but pretty ineffective by herself here.

The Sword seems to have made Sadde into a really good swordsman. It can cut through Windy's tendrils, it's at least somewhat intelligent because it can combat repeated moves, and it can threaten to kill Sadde as a means of getting what it wants.

... And the Shadow almost worked to hold them still. It seems like it can inhabit shadows, so maybe it can inhabit his shadow, and help his attacks be more effective. "Shadow, help me get some more reach! Windy, come back here."

Permalink Mark Unread

Shadow merges into Theo's shadow.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Windy returns to Theo's side.

Permalink Mark Unread

And the Sword uses this reprieve to press the attack again, using its supernatural speed to try to stab Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, fuck right off. Theo blurs out of the way of the attack with some less temperamental superspeed, movements efficiently taking him out of the path of danger, then directs some commands to his cards, hopefully softly enough that the Sword doesn't hear him. "Shadow, if you get a chance, disarm them," to Shadow, and then, "Windy, feint attacks at them and trip them at a good opportunity," to Windy.

He'll leave it up to Windy what counts as a 'good opportunity', but she's shown good intelligence so far, so that shouldn't be a problem. A surprise attack will work better than a barrage.

Turning to face Sadde again, Theo returns to the offensive, fighting for the most part not with supernatural speed, but much more quickly than the average human and with a strikingly efficient grace.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde on the other hand is supernaturally fast and good at fencing. He dodges Theo's attacks with graceful ease, his empty eyes staring and drinking details of Theo's movements.

Permalink Mark Unread

Windy continues attacking, trying to trip Sadde and pretty much failing—

Permalink Mark Unread

—until Shadow intervenes, once again causing Sadde to stagger invisibly. But after that, it takes over the Sword's shadow and it—

Permalink Mark Unread

—clatters to the ground.

Sadde stops. "Wh—what happened?" He looks around and—" Mum! Mum, mum, oh fuck, mum!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Trap the Sword before it does anything. You can berate yourself later.

Still remaining focused on the weapon, Theo says the capture phrase, "Sword, I command you to return to your power confined," and then taps the Sword with his staff.

Permalink Mark Unread

It returns to its card form.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde has called 999 and is getting an ambulance. She's been pierced through her belly, and is bleeding pretty badly.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo jogs over to Sadde and takes off his jacket, holding it against the wound. You're supposed to apply pressure, aren't you?

"Try Changing the wounds to be covered over, at least temporarily. We can undo it when the ambulance gets here," he suggests, voice somewhat off-key.

Permalink Mark Unread

He looks at Theo and furrows his brows a bit, then shakes his head. "Right. Yes. Good idea. Change!"

Permalink Mark Unread

It works. She breathes more easily and opens her eyes. "Sadde? Baby? Are you alright?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"It probably isn't a good idea to let the Change become permanent. It might stop us from doing it again in the future," he says, not taking much effort to soften his words. "Sorry about that," he says to Sadde's mum.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I understand."

Permalink Mark Unread

"What happened? I blacked out and—What do we tell the doctors?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"The Sword attacked her," he says vaguely. "We could say she was stabbed by a random lunatic. Or there might a confidentiality of treatment thing that she can lean on."

Permalink Mark Unread

"The... Sword. Fuck it was me wasn't it? I found a brooch and—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Language!"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'd say this is a situation that warrants swearing!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo just looks on blankly, though he's stopped applying pressure since the wounds don't currently exist.

They can hear the sirens of the ambulance shortly. "Sadde, go flag it down and show them where we are. Undo the change when you're nearly back," he suggests, uncharacteristically taking charge.

He says, rather obviously, to Sadde's mum, "This is going to be unpleasant," then gets his jacket ready for when the wounds reappear.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks at Theo for a second, a bit unnerved, before he goes and does that. When he's returning—

Permalink Mark Unread

—Laura's wound reappears, and she passes out again.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo reapplies the pressure with his jacket, and successfully appears to hyperventilate. "Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod! He just came out of nowhere!" he babbles. "I had no idea what to do!"

The paramedics are following with a stretcher, and rush to Laura, taking over from Theo. They load her onto the stretcher and take her back over to the ambulance, allowing Sadde to ride along.

"I'll be along in a bit, okay? I'm sure she'll be fine," Theo says quickly to Sadde, in a way that's probably convincing if you've never interacted with him before.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde, however, has, and he's... "Okay." Way too worried about Laura to think much about why Theo's acting weirdly.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't notice how weirdly he's acting, so he wouldn't expect there to be anything for Sadde to comment on. He goes in the direction of the hospital, a bit cold; he's now a bit underdressed for April, seeing as he no longer has a jacket.

Eventually, he arrives. The hospital, fortunately, wasn't too far from the park. He goes to the ER waiting room and looks for Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is there.

Sadde is not okay.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo goes over to Sadde and puts an arm around their shoulders.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks up at him.

He has been crying.

Permalink Mark Unread

In response to this, Theo feels he should pull Sadde in for a hug, and he does so, though the action is a bit forced.

"Have you heard anything?" he asks.

Permalink Mark Unread

"She's in surgery." He pulls away and furrows his brows, as if he's trying to pinpoint something but can't. "What's—up with you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"What do you mean?" Theo asks, sounding somewhat surprised.

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's like you're—faking it or something. I dunno. Your eyes and the way you're saying things and—did the Sword do something to you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"No. I'm just... tired," he says, which is at least partially true.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I've seen you tired, this is not it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I just can't process things right now, so I'm a little on edge," he amends.

Permalink Mark Unread

"...okay."

He doesn't pull Theo in for a hug again.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's okay. Theo will just sit here, making sure he's available if a need for him arises.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh the need's there. It very very clearly is there.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's... sad.

Theo frowns, a bit off-kilter.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde sighs. "You don't need to be here. You should go home, get some sleep. It's been a busy week and stuff."

Permalink Mark Unread

"No, I..." – he frowns even harder, here – "... I want to stay."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay."

Still no hugs.

Permalink Mark Unread

Something about that seems wrong to Theo. He still seems to be frowning.

Oh well.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeah.

Someone arrives to tell Sadde that Laura's stable, no vital organs were punctured but she'll need to stay under observation for a while. He'll be able to see her in an hour. Sadde nods numbly.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo smiles at Sadde somewhat tentatively when this news arrives, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. It's good news, right?

Permalink Mark Unread

Yeah, in theory. Sadde can't bring himself to smile back, and just sighs, leaning forward to prop his head on his knees, covering his face with his hands.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't seem to mind much. He's okay to just sit here, doing nothing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually Sadde can go visit, and there's Laura, who's not awake.

Permalink Mark Unread

He looks up when Sadde leaves, but then just continues to sit there.

He looks a bit lost. If Sadde's not back within a couple of hours, he'll probably text that he's leaving and then go home.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero's head pops out of Theo's bag. "Are you gonna just stay here?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"For a while, yes. If Sadde doesn't need me, I'll go home eventually."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...he obviously needs you." Kero looks around and pops the rest of himself out of Theo's bag.

Permalink Mark Unread

"He shrugged off my hug, and didn't seem to like my presence. I'm really not sure he needs me, but I'd expect him to tell me to leave if he actually preferred that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Are you serious? His mother just got stabbed while he was helping you get a card, he doesn't need to say it! Well, do whatever you want, I'm going after him." And Kero starts trying to be surreptitious as he scoots his way, on the ground, towards Laura's room.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo decides that's probably true. They agreed to be in a relationship, so they're probably supposed to be there for one another, so that's what he'll do.

He gets up and walks over towards Laura's room, trying to project an aura of confidence. He's not actually supposed to go in there, but he tries to convey that he knows what he's doing, and has permission to be doing this.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero enters Theo's bag again once it's obvious what he's doing.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde's there, sitting on a chair, his chin resting on arms folded on the chair's back. He looks up when Theo enters. "Oh. I'd thought you'd left."

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero floats over to Sadde and lands on his arm, giving him a tiny hug.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks at Sadde, and his expression softens. He goes over to him, hugs him and kisses him on the cheek.

Is that a tear? No, of course not.

Permalink Mark Unread

He doesn't pull away, but doesn't quite return the hug either.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's a better reaction than before.

"I'm sorry that I was such an idiot," he apologises.

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's a way to phrase it, I suppose."

Permalink Mark Unread

"... Such an oblivious prat?" he tries. "I really don't know what came over me," he continues sadly.

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's closer to the mark." He sighs. "You don't need to be here if you don't want to, I can just—text you later, or something."

Permalink Mark Unread

"No, I want to be here. I meant it when I said that."

Just how badly did he screw things up?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mmhm."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo just keeps hugging Sadde. The hug's getting tighter – but not painfully so – as he keeps thinking over his idiocy.

Ugh. He feels so needy, when he should be the one trying to comfort Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sigh. "I'm just being weird, ignore me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You're allowed to be weird."

Hug.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I suppose I am. Stupid cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't disagree.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sigh. Sadde gets up and plops down on the lil' sofa over there and then extends his arms forward and closes his hands a few times in a 'gimme gimme' gesture.

Permalink Mark Unread

So Theo goes over and sits on Sadde's lap, then continues the hug.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde wraps his arms around Theo and sighs. "Bloody stupid cards," he repeats.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah. I wonder if we'll ever get one that goes around being an untrained puppy by making people happier instead," he says, not really optimistic about his chances.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Glow makes floating balls of light and Flower makes flowers."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde snorts. "Clow was insane."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo laughs. "Maybe we'll meet one of those next. Didn't Kero say Clow didn't get to pick what he made, though?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"More or less. It's complicated, and the process of creating a thing often creates something to balance it."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo nods, then continues hugging Sadde, resting his head on their shoulder.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm not going home tonight," he says.

Permalink Mark Unread

"... I should probably text my dad."

Permalink Mark Unread

Snuggle. "What are you gonna tell him? I don't know if you're allowed to stay here."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know. Just that... this happened, and that I'm going to try to stay anyway? He'll probably get the idea."

He's still snuggling. Maybe he'll wait a bit before doing it.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde won't complain. Snuggle.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero is sitting on Sadde's head.

Permalink Mark Unread

The door opens, and in comes a nurse. She seems surprised to see both of them there, looks at the bear on Sadde's head a bit weirdly, and guesses that Theo is not a family relation from the way he and Sadde are interacting. "Visiting the patient at this stage is for family members only," she says to Theo, rather pointedly.

Theo pulls his head away from Sadde's shoulder to look at her, and doesn't seem to know what to say.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's head snaps up to look at her and he furrows his eyebrows. "My mother has been stabbed by a lunatic, you are not taking my boyfriend from me, I don't have anyone else!" He squeezes Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks at her pleadingly, obviously not wanting to cause a scene and hoping she'll just let it go.

The nurse looks at Sadde and sighs, acquiescing. "Okay, but make sure you don't disturb the patient."

She has a quick check to make sure the patient's okay, then leaves. Theo puts his head back on Sadde's shoulder.

Permalink Mark Unread

Good. Sadde can get back to cuddling his boyfriend on this very very tiny sofa which will be very uncomfortable to sleep on.

...having The Little or something like that would really come in handy.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero doesn't need it! He's already little! And has stopped pretending to be a stuffed toy to continue hugs.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo grabs his phone from his (fortunately) nearby bag, texts his dad, and then resumes cuddles.

Cuddles. Prolonged cuddles.

Eventually: Zzz.

Permalink Mark Unread

Very uncomfortable and fitful zzz.

Permalink Mark Unread

And by the time they wake up, Laura's awake, eyeing them speculatively.

Permalink Mark Unread

Unngh. Theo lifts his head off Sadde and turns around. He's got a bit of a mark on his face from his irregular pillow.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Good morning, Theo."

Permalink Mark Unread

zzzzz

Permalink Mark Unread

"Uh, morning. ... How are you doing?"

He looks contemplative; should he wake up Sadde or not?

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'll be fine. How are you?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm fine..." he responds.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde stirs.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Good morning, darling."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's eyes open immediately and he tries to get up, but there's way too much unexpected Theo on the way for this to be wholly successful.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oops. Theo gets out of the way.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde flutters around Laura. "Mum? How are you feeling?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm fine, baby. And you two? Are you unhurt?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"We're fine, you're the one on a hospital bed! I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have—" He stops.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Shouldn't have what? Sadde, this is not your fault, and I won't have you blaming yourself."

Permalink Mark Unread

"She's right; you couldn't have done anything to stop it," he says, trying to be reassuring. He puts a hand on Sadde's shoulder. His actions are a bit off, again, though Sadde would be forgiven for not noticing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks thoroughly unconvinced.

Permalink Mark Unread

Laura sighs and looks at Theo's hand, then Theo, then Sadde. "Let's talk about happier topics, given that I'm not in fact going to die anytime soon. When were you two planning to tell me about this?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks at his hand, too, then realises what she means and says, "Oh. It only happened... yesterday."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I see. I confess I didn't even know it was a possibility," she says, giving Sadde a probably meaningful look.

Permalink Mark Unread

"It, um, was kinda surprising. Turns out what upset him about the kiss thing was that we didn't."

Permalink Mark Unread

She looks at Theo again. "Hmmm."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't see an obvious response to that, so he just nods hesitantly.

Permalink Mark Unread

She continues scrutinising him.

Permalink Mark Unread

He stands here, being scrutinised.

Permalink Mark Unread

She turns back to Sadde. "And you're happy?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, I am I guess," he says, looking up at Theo. He furrows his brows a bit, but puts his hand on Theo's and squeezes it anyway.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Then I'm happy."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo smiles when Sadde looks at him, then at Laura, then continues to remain in the same position.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Well, I think it's about time you two stopped spending so much time with a temporary invalid and got on with your lives."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mum—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Honey, I'm not going anywhere, you need a shower and a change of clothes and to brush your teeth and to get breakfast. Now chop chop, you can come back later to pick me up, I'm pretty sure I'll end up having to leave on a wheelchair."

Permalink Mark Unread

He sighs. "Fine."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Do you want to get some food first, then?" Theo asks Sadde, again smiling at Sadde's mum.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, alright I guess," he sighs, then leans closer to plant a kiss on Laura's forehead. "Text me if you need anything?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Will do. Have fun, but not too much fun," she laughs.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um."

Permalink Mark Unread

"...you already did, didn't you."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks on, acting a bit sheepish.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Were you safe?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde looks at Theo and scrunches his eyebrows together, then looks at Laura again. "We didn't get that far, could we, like, not have this conversation right now?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Alright, alright, go."

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde pulls Theo with him as he leaves the room.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo comes willingly, after grabbing his bag. He doesn't need to be dragged; he's hardly a child.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero: is in his bag.

Permalink Mark Unread

Once they're walking, Sadde says, "You're being weird again."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, sorry about that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"'Sorry about that.' Why are you being weird? You're weird since yesterday."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I was a bit better later last night, but... I'm still a bit on edge."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Why?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I told you yesterday; I haven't had time to process."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Process what? What's even stopping you from processing now, or from having processed it last night or this morning?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Just... things. Like having to attack you in the fight. I'm not processing now because I'm... not... processing right now? I'm talking to you, and I was speaking to your mum earlier, and last night I was focusing on you. Not processing." He looks confused.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay." He stops walking, turns his body towards Theo, and folds his arms. "Process."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um," he says, looking around. "Can I go somewhere first? I don't think I'd want to do this here."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Sure. Where?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know. At least an empty room, maybe back to my house?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Your place, then."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Okay. I'll be back in a bit then? ... Unless you plan on coming with me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"If you don't want me to I won't."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I... I'll be back soon? It's not far, and I'll text you when I'm on my way back, it just seems... stupid that I'm the one that needs to process," Theo says, trying to reassure Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, I guess." Pause. "I mean... if it's relevant, I want to be there with you. Because. Well, I like you, too?"

And the Mr. Obvious award goes to...

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh, okay. I guess that's... okay? We can get some food at my place, too, and clean up. Yeah, okay."

He starts walking in the direction of the hospital exit, walking slowly until Sadde starts to follow.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde follows.

Permalink Mark Unread

There isn't really much conversation.

Eventually they get back to Theo's house. Theo's dad hears them come in and goes to greet them, saying how glad he is that Sadde's mum seems to be doing okay, and that he wishes her a speedy recovery.

He's also looking at Theo a bit weirdly, but it's hardly surprising that Theo's acting weirdly after being witness to a stabbing. He's somewhat more worried about Sadde (not by a huge amount – Theo is still his son – but it wasn't Theo's mum who got stabbed yesterday).

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde thanks him for the concern and assures him that Laura's fine.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's good, and if there's anything he can do to help, he'd apparently be happy to do so.

Theo suggests that they go upstairs.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes, that sounds like a good idea.

Permalink Mark Unread

So they get into his room, and Theo flops on his bed.

Ungh. He makes a pained sound. Why does it feel like he's been hit over the head with a brick?

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde sits on Theo's chair, hands on his lap.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, it's because he's tired, and because it turns out that just forcing yourself to continue when you probably shouldn't is typically a bad idea. Who'd've guessed.

Thinking things over, he starts to shake a little. That card was worse than he expected, and seeing Sadde acting psychopathic, trying to attack him and Sadde's mum, was definitely not something he had prepared himself for.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde carefully lies beside Theo to hug him.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo's pretty deep in thought by now, so he doesn't properly respond to that, but it's probably nice anyway.

He goes back over the things that happened, trying to work out what triggered him to start acting weirdly, and decides it was about the point that Sadde's mum got stabbed. He started looking around and thinking rather than continuing in a panic, so it was definitely helpful, now he thinks back on it, but it was a weird change, and he doesn't really understand why it happened. Then he went to the hospital, sat there with Sadde because he was needed instead of actually feeling much of anything, and instead made things worse.

... And now he's having a breakdown, 'processing', forcing Sadde to deal with this on top of his mum. It's not Theo's mum who's in the hospital, so why is he forcing Sadde to deal with this too? He knows he's being a burden, and it just makes him feel worse. Now, he seems to actually notice that Sadde's there, and he hugs him back.

Permalink Mark Unread

Hug! Much hug. "I'm not actually sure what's happening here," he whispers.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm being stupid, and realising I'm being stupid, and realising I've been stupid, and thinking about how horrible the fight was. And I'm sorry."

Permalink Mark Unread

"It's alright. I don't know how awful the fight was, I was apparently possessed by a brooch that became a magical sword. And you didn't really do anything wrong, it was just like... you weren't really there, you know? Going through the motions. So I was like... I had no idea what was going on in your head, which I very frequently don't but I don't in a different way."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I don't know what that was about, because I wasn't really thinking properly." He wipes his eyes. "And I'm pretty sure I'm done now, and that was over so quickly, so I really don't know why I was making such a fuss over it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Me neither. Next time you want to have a breakdown... I don't know, did you want me not to be here?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I think I was more worried about what I'd think after, if you were around while I had a breakdown. I don't know." He hugs Sadde harder. "I'm glad you're here, though."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah," he tells Theo's neck.

Permalink Mark Unread

Kero comes from nowhere and hugs Theo too. Tiny hugs!

Permalink Mark Unread

Hugs.

"We should probably go get ready to go back."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Right. I probably got morning breath."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Me too. I'm gonna go have a shower," he says, seeming to wait for confirmation.

Permalink Mark Unread

"...can I come with?"

Permalink Mark Unread

...Kero decides it's time to be not here.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah," he says, smiling. He gets up, grabs a new set of clothes, and goes over to the bathroom.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde's still wearing yesterday's clothes but who cares, now he's in the bathroom and now he's naked.

Permalink Mark Unread

What a coincidence! So's Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

(Click here to skip the explicit content.)

And apparently Sadde can't wait for the water to be on to kiss him.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo was just about to get in the shower itself, but he doesn't mind being interrupted with a kiss.

Permalink Mark Unread

A kiss?

Permalink Mark Unread

Yes, just a kiss, and then they can get wet in the shower. Though if Sadde's not careful, Theo might get distracted from his goal.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde may be actively working against Theo's goal. Or, at least, orthogonally to it, because a kiss is unacceptable. More kisses are more like it. Snogging is way more like it. More neck nibbling even more so.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that's fine then. Just means it takes longer until Sadde gets to see Theo wet again.

Mmm. Snogs and neck nibbling.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well. Sadde can multitask. See the way he's kissing Theo and pushing him toward the shower and turning the water on?

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo can see that! However, Theo is also somewhat busy with snogs and neck nibbling.

Permalink Mark Unread

And water is raining down on them and now the hand that was used to turn it on is behind Theo's head, entwined in his hair and pulling it a bit. The other hand has found more profitable activities below their respective waists.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that is definitely a profitable activity. It results in interesting noises from Theo, and causes him to dig his nails into Sadde's back.

Permalink Mark Unread

Which also provokes more noises from Sadde! Nails are good, he approves of them! And he continues making out with his boyfriend, until he decides to see what Theo's reaction is to biting his lower lip a little.

Permalink Mark Unread

The reaction is positive! So long as it's not drawing blood or anything.

Mmmm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Noooope, no blood.

But shower! They should, like, actually shower. They fought each other and then there was a lot of drama, they need to get cleaned up. So Sadde finds: soap.

Permalink Mark Unread

So long as they can clean each other up, Theo is fine with that.

... It might take a while, what with the distraction of Sadde, and kisses.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yup! Cleaning each other up! Sadde's the first to pull away from the kisses so he can start soaping Theo up, making sure to be preeetty thorough on applying the soap evenly everywhere on Theo's skin.

Permalink Mark Unread

Thorough is good. Thorough is very good. It makes Theo a little handsy, and definitely very affectionate.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's great! Also Sadde has this strange habit of kissing and nibbling on certain parts of Theo's body after rinsing them off.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo: a little bit weak in the knees.

He keeps pulling Sadde for more kisses, and nails are still very much a thing. He might be getting a bit carried away.

It might not be obvious, but he totally needed this.

Permalink Mark Unread

It's a bit obvious, yeah. Watch Sadde provide.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is providing really well. Theo makes plenty of noises of approval.

Permalink Mark Unread

Eventually Theo has been all soaped up and it's time for more wet hugs and snogging.

Permalink Mark Unread

And after a lot of wet hugs and snogging, it's time for Sadde to be soaped up. More than they already are.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde does the opposite of complaining.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's good. Theo would hate it if Sadde complained.

... He's tried nails, but has he tried biting? He hasn't tried it much, at least, and so he sets out to see what reaction it gets.

Permalink Mark Unread

Very positive.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, in that case, he continues. Soap, nails, nibbling and biting.

Oh, and of course kissing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Yup! A lot of that. And the noises those things cause.

Permalink Mark Unread

Now that Sadde's all soaped up, Theo also decides to see about Sadde's reaction to lip biting.

Permalink Mark Unread

He definitely likes that a lot!

Permalink Mark Unread

They have lip-biting in common. How interesting.

Theo is definitely enjoying himself. How's Sadde doing?

Permalink Mark Unread

He's most definitely enjoying himself, too, and it shows. In many different ways.

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooh, another thing they share in common.

Theo gets handsy again, and helps with the enjoyment. Mutual enjoyment.

Permalink Mark Unread

And he gets many many kisses as his reward.

Permalink Mark Unread

Such a great reward. Theo approves.

Permalink Mark Unread

Of course he does, Sadde only has good ideas![citation needed]

Permalink Mark Unread

Of course Sadde does; see evidence of Theo enjoying the good idea. [original research?]

Permalink Mark Unread

Ooh, that's pretty significant and convincing evidence, but Sadde thinks the research needs peer review.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, there aren't currently any peers here to review it. What a shame.

Sadde will just have to make do with Theo's appreciation. Don't worry, he can approve enough for multiple people.

Permalink Mark Unread

He meant himself. He's the peer. Who will be reviewing Theo's evidence.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, well in that case, Theo will gather plenty of evidence. Since Sadde's available to peer review, he might as well make the most of the situation.

Permalink Mark Unread

He definitely does! He certainly gathers a lot of information, examining it very carefully.

Permalink Mark Unread

Biting and nails, too. There's gotta be a lot of information gathered on biting and nails. Can't forget the biting and nails.

(Theo will also provide feedback if lightly bitten, in case Sadde tries that.)

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde tries most of anything and has a very good memory for what Theo likes and what he doesn't. He himself really likes biting and nails.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, that is pretty great. Theo's memory is also pretty good for what Sadde likes.

Turns out Theo has some pretty great hands.

Permalink Mark Unread

Is that so? Would he like to elaborate on that?

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Sadde can already feel them in action here, along with another part of Theo's. Why, was there some other obvious elaboration?

Permalink Mark Unread

Nope, he just wanted to make sure! He does agree that those hands are pretty great. His nonverbal reactions are pretty clear on that. He squeezes Theo with both arms, burying his face in his neck and squinting his eyes. "Oh, fuck, Theo—"

Permalink Mark Unread

In response to that, Theo puts one hand on Sadde's back, and: more nails. Then, it turns out they have yet another thing in common! What is this now, three things?

It's a good thing they're in the shower. Also, hugging and neck nuzzling: so great.

Permalink Mark Unread

So great! Sadde mumbles incoherently into Theo's skin, and bites it very softly before kissing it.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo responds with nails again, with the extra addition of running his lips over more of Sadde's skin. Mmm.

Permalink Mark Unread

Best. Boyfriend. Ever.

And then Sadde's stomach grumbles. "We should probably get on with it," he says, resting his chin on Theo's shoulder.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, we probably should," Theo responds, and starts washing himself down. And, of course, helps to wash Sadde down.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Are you trying to get me revved up again?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"No, it's just for purposes of efficiency."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Of course," he laughs. "Well, let's get to it, anyway."

And they do, and are all cleaned up.

Permalink Mark Unread

And out of the shower, and towelling off.

Then into clothes. Reminding him... "We should probably stop by your place on the way back to get you a new set of clothes."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That's probably a good idea. Uh, I'm nowhere near as ridiculously rich as you, for the record."

Permalink Mark Unread

... Ridiculously rich?

"Uh, okay? That's fine."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Just, you know. My place isn't as pretty as yours and such," he says as they make their way.

Permalink Mark Unread

...

"Okay. That's still fine, though," he says, a bit confused.

He grabs some food for both himself and Sadde when they get down to the kitchen, eats some, then quickly goes and cleans his teeth.

Permalink Mark Unread

And then they're on their way to Sadde's place!

Permalink Mark Unread

They most certainly are!

Permalink Mark Unread

And eventually they arrive! It is a small place. It is a small apartment in a dingy apartment building, and Sadde walks in and the first thing he does is brush his teeth.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo looks around a little bit.

Permalink Mark Unread

It has a living room and one bathroom and two bedrooms and a kitchenette and everything's pretty small. There's no TV.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, that's sad. He'll just have to get Sadde to come watch a few films some time.

He goes back over to Sadde.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is in his room, undressing and finding new clothes.

Permalink Mark Unread

Oh, is he. Well, if he doesn't mind, Theo will just stand in the doorway and watch.

Permalink Mark Unread

When Sadde notices him watching he may start doing a bit of a strip tease for Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, Theo is definitely not complaining. Despite his lack of experience with them, he concludes that strip teases are fun.

Permalink Mark Unread

Good! And now Sadde is dressed. "Let's go, then?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, okay," agrees Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

So they return to the hospital!

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh goodness, are you two back already? Don't you have better things to do than die of boredom around me?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't really know what to say, so he just stands slightly behind Sadde and lets him take the lead.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde is kinda evil and wants to put Theo on the spotlight: "You see, Theo was very worried about you, he kept bugging me about us coming here as soon as possible, what if you died, so I gave in."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Is that so?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Of course it was! Theo's a very kind, caring, and compassionate soul.

"Um, it wasn't quite like that," he says.

Permalink Mark Unread

She laughs. "Well at least someone was worried about me."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mum, of course I'm worried about you, don't be silly. Also look at him, isn't he cute? I told you he was cute. I should make him blush." He looks at Theo. "Go on, blush, I want to show her that."

Permalink Mark Unread

"No thanks. I can't exactly do it on command, anyway," Theo says, grinning.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Don't torture the poor boy," Laura admonishes.

Permalink Mark Unread

"You blushed when we told your dad we were going for a walk. Do you blush when we do romantic things? I think that's when you blush." So he plants a kiss on Theo's cheek.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo doesn't blush. He definitely doesn't blush.

Okay, he totally blushes. And starts stuttering again, a little.

Permalink Mark Unread

"See! I told you, he's just adorable when he blushes. And he stutters when he does it."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, so I see."

Permalink Mark Unread

He makes a conscious effort not to try to talk, so as to try to stop the stuttering, and focuses on anything but blushing.

Permalink Mark Unread

Sadde plants another kiss on Theo's cheek.

Permalink Mark Unread

"I think you've tortured him enough, love. And in any case, they won't release me until tonight, I really did mean it when I said there's less boring things for you two to do than stay around me all day."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo finally feels he can speak, and says, "I'd be happy to stay here."

He's still blushing quite a lot.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Oh my god you're just too cute," he says, and hugs Theo.

Permalink Mark Unread

She sighs. "Alright, do what you want. I would like to see some of those other cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo smiles in response to Sadde's comment. "Uh, I've got my cards with me," he says, pulling out the cards and showing then to Sadde's mum.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Kero also pops out of Theo's bag.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo rolls his eyes. Of course Kero appears from his bag.

He holds out the cards to Sadde's mum.

Permalink Mark Unread

She regards them thoughtfully. "This Mr. Reed was an interesting person," she comments.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yeah, interesting is not the word I'd use. There are a lot more than this, and some of them sound pretty terrible."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, so I've been informed. Hm. I believe I will be coming with you two in any future card capturing adventures."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Mum! You could've died—"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, and so could you. If you think there is any way at all I will let you continue to pursue these cards without all the help I can give you you may know me less well than I would have hoped. Aren't there any other, more experienced sorcerers that could also help? Surely the release of magic with potentially apocalyptic power warrants asking for their help as well."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know any and they could want to use the cards for nefarious purposes."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Apparently I'm some sort of chosen one, because I had the ability to open the Clow Book," he says, rolling his eyes.

Permalink Mark Unread

"And yet Kero seems to trust my son and, well, me, but not be willing to trust other sorcerers."

Permalink Mark Unread

"To be fair, neither of us is powerful enough to be terribly threatening if we do get all of those cards and I am now dating the chosen one."

Permalink Mark Unread

"You and I could still be playing a long con."

Permalink Mark Unread

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo gives both Kero and Sadde's mum a jokingly exasperated look. "Do you really want to watch Kero try to stop you? Because it sounds like you're trying to make him worry about you."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Ideally we would convince him to let us enlist the help of other sorcerers with the end of the world."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I don't know any other sorcerers."

Permalink Mark Unread

"And he does have a point, I trust myself and you, and I kinda have to trust him, aaaannd I suppose I trust Theo, too," he says, grinning at his boyfriend, "but other than that I'm not sure I want to decentralize the power to take over the world more than it already is."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo grins in response. "Yeah. If we found other people that we knew were trustworthy, and that we could keep in contact with, it might be okay, but otherwise not really."

Permalink Mark Unread

She sighs. "I suppose you're right."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I usually am."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Don't get cocky."

Permalink Mark Unread

He giggles.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo watches the interaction and laughs.

"Do you have any questions about the cards, then, or has Sadde told you everything about them?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I think he's told me everything. I couldn't see Change when he manifested it so it probably won't help with the other cards."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Ah, okay," Theo says, and he starts putting the cards away.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Laura grabs the book she'd been reading and resumes said reading.

Permalink Mark Unread

"Um."

Permalink Mark Unread

She doesn't look up from her book. "I did warn you it'd be boring."

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo sits down and gets out his phone.

Permalink Mark Unread

...

Sadde grabs Theo's right ear and starts pulling him towards the sofa so they can sit together (not too strongly, just to give a hint).

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo laughs and gets up, going over to the sofa and sitting down.

Permalink Mark Unread

And Sadde sits next to him and puts an arm around him and rests his head on his shoulder and closes his eyes and realises that sleeping while his mother was almost dying was not a terribly successful endeavour and he's actually pretty tired and he might nap a little bit on Theo if that's okay.

Permalink Mark Unread

Theo's fine with that. He can lean on Sadde a bit too, and play on his phone. Technology, woo!
