:p
something going on with that family i s2g... statistically incomprehensible
It's not that crazy for two siblings to be espers, is it? I mean obviously it usually doesn't happen, but... Plus, their mom is an esper and that makes you more likely to have Esper kids, right?

there's still less than a 1% chance for the child of an esper to awaken as an esper, conservative estimates put it at .1% chance. the odds that any two children of the same esper would both awaken are .1%*.1% = literally and not figuratively a one in a million chance. there are barely a tenth that many espers in the world and many of them don't have kids at all. statistically incomprehensible.
...but if there's a 1 in a million chance that it'd happen to one esper family and there's 100k esper families in the world doesn't that mean it's only a 1 in 10 chance that it'd happen once? Or do I not understand probability ^^;

There are, very roughly, 160,000 individual espers in the world. Certainly there are fewer esper families than 100,000. But Wendy is (we might say) directionally correct: for we laypeople to observe at least one esper with multiple esper children, it is not necessary that any one particular pair of siblings overcome their .001% chance, but only that, among all the esper parents in the world, at least one of them gives birth to two children who later go on to awaken - less likely than not, but not "statistically incomprehensible."
Believe it or not, my real legal first name is Euclid.

The world is actually basically okay. Don't Panic!
Could be that someone cracked the trick for telling if a human's going to awaken in advance, and had a lab of test tube babies from a willing esper donor created. They only let the ones that would grow up to be espers live. The mom got to keep two, in exchange for letting the lab have the others, who are being experimented upon as we speak to crack the secrets for how to make all humans espers. Peregrine escaped and is now a vigilante esper on the loose, desperate to show the world the horrors he saw in that lab.
... Or, you know. The lighting's playing tricks on us. One of those.

I'm judging you, burger. I'm judging you so hard.
