Either is welcome. (As Iunom above, I'm from an Earth-alike, so I likely share significant corpuses with anyone else who is.)

I'm running into hardware limitations on my end, but here's an old archive of a few hundred poems. I should have a workaround for the problem in a few weeks.

That's very kind of you, thank you. Don't put yourself to any trouble on my account.

Well here's a book of poems published after things stabilized from the Trials in 2050, I don't think anyone else will have these poems. Elegies for old Earth

Okay so. I think a thing that we have that other people might not have is these stasis pods. They're very, very good at putting humans into long-term coma and bringing them back out again safely. Like, more than 99.99% of the time the worst you get is soreness and headaches and a little hair damage. And they're not exactly secret. So... Cryogenic stasis pods. Model SK6Model SK6c (for children specifically), Model SK7 (simplified) - Version with lower manufacturing requirements (especially rare metals) that has a little stricter environmental tolerances but still works pretty well as far as we can tell, according to the engineering specs.

I totally recommend you do a lot of tests before trying to actually, uh, use one of these though.

This 'genomes' are... Interesting. Is there anything more basic on the phenomenon? I rather suspect that animals and plants don't work quite the same way here.

Hm, I'm not sure quite how to assist you with that but perhaps either this textbook on biology or this history of the biological sciences would help.

Interesting.

Evolution is not a thing here. Or at the least, it functions under significantly different conditions. DNA still exists, however.

Fascinating, I'm not really sure what to take away from that, but it kinda supports the hypothesis that magic is altering some sort of baseline condition.

Thank you, Riley (if I may use your first name); those are beautiful. Heartwrenching, frequently -- and I'm sure more so for someone with the full cultural context -- but then, a great deal of the beauty is in the way they evoke that.

I only insist on formality in professional contexts, I'm fine being addressed as Riley here. You're welcome. Elegies for old Earth does have that sort of haunting vibe to it. I was born after the trials so I don't have quite the emotional connection that my parents do but it is really sad.

This is my favorite epic poem, Heresies of a Newborn People.

That's beautiful, Araisha, thank you.

It's good to know that even in worlds very different from my own there are traditions of epic poetry.

I would be interested to know if enchanting works in other worlds as it does in mine. I would appreciate it if someone would try this simple experiment and report its success or failure.

1. Acquire a quartz crystal and a nugget of gypsum, azurite, gold, or other relatively soft mineral approximately equal in size.

2. Mark a circle on the quartz and an equilateral triangle on the soft material.

3. Press the two carved faces to each other with significant force and a deliberate effort to connect them permanently.

If successful, this will create a dimly glowing magical lantern. The exact properties of the light will depend on the soft material you chose.

The Akashic studies department tested your procedure, they even tried getting a couple biological people to do it. No observed effects.

Same here.

My brother-in-law tried it and didn't get anywhere.

A shame. Trading magical knowledge would have been fun.

It also doesn't work for me.

I'm a sensory specialist in the local magic system, if anyone would like to suggest tests that would benefit from that; I'm somewhat constrained for materials, though.

There are drugs that the institute is aware of for boosting most senses, but I'd be reluctant to suggest you make them given the possibility that your biology is different.

Yes, that seems unwise, and unlikely to be useful; the practical limit on my senses is generally in how much attention I can pay to them, not in the senses themselves.

didn't work for me either. :((( lame!

hey does anyone else have magic that might work for people from other worlds? :D

If I did I would probably distribute it over PM instead of on the public forum in case someone really unethical showed up later.

Jeanne mentioned her world has previously contacted other worlds. Unless the planes count, which I find myself doubting, mine has not.
