"We could bring in some plants? Some of the bushes around here have interesting leaves, or we could bring in some things from the garden to use."

He shakes his head. Partially because that sounds like too much work just for him to do this, and partially because he doesn't really want to try and fail. "S'fine," he says, leaning down slightly to rest his chin on one arm, the hand holding the pencil half-doodling.

"All right. The biscuits will be out soon, you can help me get them ready."

He nods, almost eagerly. "'d like that."

"Okay." She goes and gets two each of plates and knives and sets them on the table where they've been sitting, and then bustles around getting various things that can go on bread - almond butter, jam, butter, berry syrup, a leftover serving of lentil stew, grated hard cheese, tomato sauce, the last of the caramelized onions, with a spoon for each. She brings them to the table and takes the biscuits out and sets them aside to cool a bit before returning to sit by Nova. "Do you know which of these you like?"

He shakes his head, more than a little overwhelmed by the number of choices she's offering him.

"Okay. Well, the usual way to put them together is like this - " she spoons a tiny bit of almond butter onto his plate, follows it with a daub of jam, and mixes them together, then follows with a drizzle of syrup over a flake of butter, a little spoonful of the lentil stew, and then cheese, tomato, and onions mixed together. "These two are sweet, and these two are savory; most people like them separately and like one or the other better, but some people like to eat both at the same time. Some things are spicy, too, but Pradnakt doesn't like spicy things, so we don't have any." She offers him the spoon from the onions. "Give them a try?"

He takes the spoon a little hesitantly. He starts with the savoury ones. The lentil stew one is... good. The mix is alright, but he thinks he'd prefer the onion and cheese without the tomato.

The two syrup one tastes too sweet, but the jam one is a little better. He quietly reports all of this to Daisy.

She nods. "Okay. I made eight biscuits; does two with almond butter and jelly and three each of the savories sound good?"

He nods. "Yeah."

"Okay." She puts the extra toppings away and brings the biscuits over. "Have you done food prep before?"

He shakes his head. "Wasn't much. For inside work."

"All right. I'll cut the biscuits, then, and you can spoon the fillings in, and I'll take care of the almond butter, too, since that's a bit tricky." And she sets about doing that.

Nova sets about spooning the fillings in, although perhaps a little less than most people would use.

"Is that going to be enough?" she asks, as he's doing the third one.

"...Yes?" he says, a little unsurely. (He's eaten more in the past couple of days than he ate in at least the week before that.)

"You can have more if you want, but it's up to you. I'd put a little more on, though."

He hesitates for a moment, but then adds a little more to the ones he's already done, and adds a little more going forward.

And she goes back to what she's doing, careful not to get ahead of him. She puts the almond butter on the last two before passing them over.

Nova finishes putting the jelly on them, and then looks at Daisy, half for further instructions, half for confirmation that he did it okay.

She nods approvingly. "Good. Now, they'll taste better at room temperature, but if we leave them sitting out, they might go bad and make you sick. So they go in the fridge for now, and when you wake up you can take them out and let them warm up again. Or you can eat them cold; that won't hurt you, they just won't taste as good. Okay?"

He nods. "Okay," he agrees quietly.

"- is something wrong?"

"I- no?" he says, then pauses. "Just not used to. Being allowed to. Take?"

"Ah, yeah. Well, you are, here, especially if it's something we've said you can have. And when you have your own house, everything in it will be for you."
