"Sure."

She trades. She explains how to hold and fire the bow.

She will hold and fire the bow! There will be no floofing this time because letting go of a string is less surprising-when-it-happens.

Tarinda can't hit the arrows but gamely tries.

“Are you actually still having fun with that, I can't tell.”

"Yes I am."

She will try a bit harder to be at least consistent — predictable — if not dead center.

Tarinda's shots sometimes get close enough to knock hers aside but not by dead hit.

“I get that showing me around is your job-which-you-took-even-though-you-don't-need-one but I do want to not make that unnecessarily boring or awkward.”

"It's actually a pretty sought after job!"

“Historians, amateur or professional? Like seeing us go wow? Just like people in general but especially unusual ones?”

"There's a shortage of 'meaningful work' for some pickier definitions of 'meaningful'."

“Ouch.”

"It works out all right, people can mostly find meaning that doesn't run on starving homeless people! But this is a cool job in that regard."

“Cool. But that's a generality, so just let me know if I'm being bothersome, okay? I am not in a totally lost state any more even if I have lots of questions.”

"I'm glad you are not totally lost any more." Twang.

“If I get totally lost it will be on purpose!”

"Do you enjoy getting yourself unlost from wildernesses or confusions or whatever?"

“I have only ever done it professionally but that could change.”

"Professionally?"

“Standard part of flight training. Your instructor takes you somewhere you should know well enough, or you have a map of the general area, and then you have to get unlost from landmarks.”

"Oh, that's neat."

“Other important pilot skills: being able to recognize by looking out the window that you are landing on the correct runway! At the correct airport!”

"Did they make you be a passenger at each airport before you were allowed to fly there?"

“Co-pilot, and no. If you're planning to go somewhere it's only polite and reasonable to familiarize yourself with the layout and procedures but that's all information you gather and review when making your flight plan. But you can — could — always end up somewhere unfamiliar due to avoiding weather or an emergency.”

Thwump.

“Airlines might insist on something like that — I could see it going either way — but I never got that job.”

"Huh. All these little logistics things you had to figure out in advance before you did anything, pre-singularity, are so interesting."
