They had not, actually, known that, and a curiosity stirs in their breast to learn their new nation's history.

"We will be glad to do our part, my Lady."

"Good. Now, there have been... Questions, from the Fire Daimyo, about the possibility of future hostility given you and your resonant's recent actions. A war with Konoha would be unideal. I intend to arrange a summit to discuss terms of peace. I expect both you and your resonant to be there."

Nod. "Yes, my Lady."

While peace with Konoha is the goal, negotiating peace without giving up anything that would disadvantage Sound or the nation will be... Difficult.

"Very well. You are dismissed."

Rian acknowledges, then stands, bows, and leaves.

They have a lot of work to do, now, and more to discuss with their resonant.

It's been a few weeks since Nawaki woke up. His sister Tsunade's mostly been avoiding him. Orochimaru, his old sensei, has been busy. That Rian girl isn't so bad, she comes by every now and then.

Nawaki's been trying to catch up with everything that's happened since he died, he has, but there's so much of it, and Sound's history books keep dissing Konoha which is totally unfair.

And now he's been told to report to one of the Academy rooms.

Apparently he's getting a new genin team.

Ugh.

The other two are already there when he arrives, a redheaded girl with her arms crossed, glaring at an orange-haired, tall, stocky boy. They're both about his age probably.

The girl looks up when he enters, light glinting off her large glasses.

"Hey, you're that Senju kid, right?"

"...Yeah? Senju Nawaki."

"I'm Karin. This's Juugo, he hates talking - say, do you know Rian? Your chakra signature's close to hers sometimes, and I heard your sister's Orochimaru-sama's teammate - "

"Nice to meet you, and - yeah? We talk every now and then."

"Isn't she cute? And strong, and her chakra, I got a glimpse of it even before she resonated, during the exams, it's - something else. Can you introduce me?"

"Uh - no? She's Orochimaru-sensei's resonant, she's like kinda sorta sixty! Ish." (Not that he likes her himself, nope.)

"Beauty before age. And she's just as much our age, too."

(Juugo is sitting in the background, arms crossed, only almost not rolling his eyes. These two are annoying him, and he doesn't like feeling annoyed but there's this itch...)

Before he can do anything about his stirring anger, the door opens, he meets red eyes -

And the building adrenaline leaves him in a rush, sending him reeling.

He recognizes this feeling - it's the same one as when Rian shut down his transformation.

In the doorway is Uchiha Emi, hand on one hip. She clears her throat, and waits for all three genin to look at her.

"Hello, team. I will be your new jounin-sensei. Since you're all already genin, we won't be bothering with an exam; instead we're jumping straight to teamwork. Come on." And she turns, gesturing for them to follow, and leads them to one of the training grounds.

Ahhhh her crush's older sister is her jounin-sensei? How is that fair?

She follows, Nawaki and Juugo behind her, and sits beside them on a bench at the training ground's edge.

Emi leans on the wall across from them. "So. For the boring part, introductions. Name, any special abilities, how you came to Sound, plans for the future. I'll start; I'm Uchiha Emi. My main special ability is the Sharingan. I defected from Konoha after my sister resonated with Orochimaru. I plan to grow strong and protect my sister. Now, from my left."

"Ah. I'm Senju Nawaki. I don't really have any special abilities. I was a Konoha nin, but I died in the Second War, and Orochimaru-sensei put me back a couple of weeks ago. My plans... I don't know." He goes quiet. "I used to want to be Hokage, but now... Nothing."

Well that's a bit awkward. "I'm Uzumaki Karin. I can sense chakra, at really high distances, and I can heal people if they bite me. I'm working on proper medic training. I was a Kusa nin, but after I failed in the chunin exams I got assigned to an outer village that was burned down in a border skirmish with Iwa. I ran towards here, and Orochimaru-sama found me. My plans are to become strong, and. Um. Serve Orochimaru-sama!" 'Seducing Rian' might be an awkward thing to mention in front of her crush's sister.

(She kicks Nawaki when she senses him rolling his eyes.)

"My name is Juugo. I can transform, growing stronger, but I lose control when I do. I came to Sound looking for a cure. My plan for the future is to no longer be cursed like I am, and to do what I can to help Sound." Mostly Rian, who's the one who gave him a new lease on life.

"Good. We'll spend the rest of today getting to know each other, then we can start missions tomorrow. D-ranks, to get you familiar with the Sound report system, but we'll move to C-ranks soon enough. Any questions?"

The three all shake their heads.

Team training turns out to be... Interesting. Karin is the opposite of combat-focused, Juugo has no formal training, Nawaki's training is decades out of date, and their sensei wasn't exactly picked for her skill with children.

They finish eventually, though, and Karin staggers back to her apartment to collapse face-down on her thin bed.

Nawaki walks back to his and his sister's place after team training, and pauses in the kitchen in the middle of making himself dinner.

He sighs. His sister's not home, again - probably still at the hospital, avoiding him the same way he avoids her.

Nawaki shakes his head, then hesitantly puts together two boxed meals.

It's about time he stopped acting like a five-year-old.

His sister is, indeed, still at the hospital. The receptionist directs him to the staff breakroom, where Tsunade is sitting nursing a cup of coffee and scowling.

Her frown fades when she notices her brother. "Nawaki? What're you doing here?"

He holds up the boxed meal, currently wrapped in fabric decorated with little circles. (The only other cloth the store had was snakes. He likes Orochimaru-sensei, but no.)

"Met my new genin team today. Figured I could bring you dinner. Talk. It's... Been a while. ...I've kinda been being a brat, I think."
