I can learn the languages today. If people don't want me to read their minds I could build an arcology somewhere in another galaxy and take you all there and learn the language and then learn about demons, they shouldn't feel like I'm in danger unless they let me read their minds.

"I understood some of those words. Concepts. However this works. On the one hand, that sounds really convenient, insofar as I understood what it was, and it is considerate of you not to pressure people into letting you read their minds. On the other hand, it is a known fact that making ill-understood deals with demons always ends badly unless you are willing and able to stab them afterward."

She looks up at the sky thoughtfully.

"On the third hand, it's about to rain, so honestly I think I'm on board with this plan. Though you will probably have to demonstrate the ability and willingness to take me wherever we're going and then back here before anyone else is willing to try this."

Okay. I'm going to go find a planet and build the arcology first. I'll be back in five minutes.

He disappears.

"He's... trying to build something on another planet? I am fuzzy on the details."

He bounces a galaxy out, looks for suitable planets with about the right gravity, finds a barren one, teleports there.

The planet isn't barren anymore when he teleports onto it!

He's in an incredibly tall forest, with trees that reach into the sky and nearly block out the alien sun. There's decaying plant matter at his feet. There's air here, and it's breathable, but something's wrong with it; it stings his eyes a little.

He leaves immediately. It was barren, he checked - he checks again with a plastic model -

Yep, barren planet.

...he finds a different one. He checks with a plastic model. He sends a camera while staying well away and then conjures the contents of the camera.

Rocks. More rocks. That looks like a rock that's a slightly different shade of gray.

Well, then, what happens if he teleports in?

He's in a field of tall yellow grass that bows under the weight of powerful rainstorm that soaks him to the skin. Thunder sounds from some indeterminate direction. The ground beneath his feet is muddy and sucks at his shoes.

This universe seems like bad news.

So he'll visit a different one.

Do barren planets in the adjacent universe behave normally?

Yep! Normal barren rocks that remain well-behaved barren rocks when you stand on them.

He writes Cam.

I am now three hops away from you probably. The universe I went through before coming here has weird magic and it seemed safer to leave. Make sure however you're searching for me you don't miss me because of that.

Thank you.

Curufinwë Fëanáro.

Then he builds his arcology.

"Suppose it kills you," says Draconis, when Aria has explained that she plans to follow a demon to some moon somewhere.

"'M tough to kill."

"Strands you, then."

"If I get stuck on a random moon somewhere then you're gonna have to go on ahead to Redcliffe without me, and then to the Circle and then to the Dalish. I'm sorry, I really am, it's not like I want to take stupid risks, but if Duncan were here - "

" - no. No he's not. Which means it's up to the ten of us and possibly demon kid. I'm going, you wait for me one day tops, and at the end of the day you head to Redcliffe. That's the official warden game plan, the rest of you can take it or leave it."

"Do try to come back safe."

"Wouldn't miss it."

He's back about twenty minutes later. Your entire universe is magic! It's very weird.

"Cool," says Aria, because there might be people who know what that means or what the implications of that are, but she doesn't think she's one of them.
