They can burn.

It takes a lot of fire -

But they burn.

The seal deactivates once the chains are broken.

Enough distraction. She needs to return to the main battle.

She's on a sort of plateau between a line of mountains and a cliff that Konoha clusters around the base of - the edge of it isn't far at all, and there's already combat. Apparently, one of the linked shinobi chose here for the high ground to direct rockets down into the village, and a number of Konoha's finest objected.

There's other battles - Sasuke's translucent warrior is fighting Deidara, a few large animals, and a paper construct, and is defending the village from any other area of effect attacks. There's a few figures tearing through local forces. There's a cleared area, where two people - one of the linked shinobi, and a Konoha shinobi wearing orange - are fighting on their own.

The Konoha shinobi are all on their back feet, and many of them are dying. None of them seem to be prevailing. Some of Sasuke's soldiers have joined the fight on Konoha's side - with only mixed effectiveness. Sasuke seems to be doing the single most good, but he's stuck on defense at the moment.

Well then. Since her mobility is relatively limited, she'll start with the closest and work from there.

Hands wreathed in black flame, she attacks the rocket launcher from behind.

He's more easy to damage than the gravity generator was, but he doesn't go down immediately - and has enough time to launch a few rockets her way.

She dodges as she can, but one or two hits will not be the end of her.

The hits are hard and dangerous -

But she's deadlier than him, especially once he's been worn down.

"Thanks!" a Konoha shinobi shouts, breathing heavily. "Can you destroy the body? They keep getting back up, we're not sure how - "

She incinerates the body. Fire is the first resort, and the last.

He thanks her again. "We need to move on the other Paths, now. We'll leave a guard here just in case." Several of the less injured shinobi have already taken off, and a few others are helping casualties off the field.

"Do you have battlefield healers?"

"Yes - the Fifth is our best, she's healing everyone right now, or at least all of ours - you might be able to get one of her slugs, as a temporary ally. We're also setting up field hospitals for more extreme cases, to help take the load off her."

(He, indeed, has a slimy lump attached to the back of his neck.)

"Where can I find her?"

"Central command - you're not likely to get close, and she won't have time for anything personal, but there's more slugs at the field hospitals, and around - they detach when their host dies."

"I'm here!" a feminine voice calls from the ground - a much larger slug, about the size of a cat, wriggling out of the forest. A few smaller blobs appear to be jumping into her, and she shifts and grows when they do, and when she passes over the body of a dead slug. "Tsunade-sama authorized giving me's to the Sound forces - I can split off a me now?"

"I would appreciate that," she says, shifting to dragon. "Broken ribs, and the wing ligaments feel torn."

The slug examines her, and splits off about a third of her mass. The smaller slug jumps up to Ellisaria's neck, sinks in, seems to be connecting herself rather thoroughly -

And Ellisaria's wounds begin to heal. It's not blindingly fast, nor particularly concentrated, but it's already relieving the pain quite dramatically.

"I can keep it from getting worse from normal movement, but not from another blow," the slug on her neck reports, while the larger one on the ground returns to gathering slug-bodies.

"That will have to do." She can fly again, at least, even if she'll still have to fight in mortal form. Best to leave the giants' battle alone, then. She will seek one of the solo enemies.

There's one - a shimmering barrier around him, apparently absorbing all attacks, and draining anyone it touches of life.

Can it absorb her magic as well?

Seems to be able to absorb mana, yes.

(The man is also separately deadly, throwing rather large attacks at anyone who's staying out of reach. One girl in particular is giving him trouble - her chosen method seems to be 'stay at a distance and rain down sharp pointy hell', and the weapons are getting through - but she's clearly tired and already injured.)

A mana barrier of some flavor, perhaps. Usually it is possible to overload those, but if this one is physically vulnerable, it would be better to conserve her effort. She snatches a pair of deflected daggers from the ground and closes to attack. Magic is her preferred combat style, but one does not live five thousand years without learning more than one trick.

It drains her mana - and her chakra, and her general feeling of energy and well being - when she touches it, but doesn't actually impede her approach.

The man himself is fast, and quickly moves to block her daggers.

Should be an opening for the girl with the projectiles, at least.

It is!

She flings an enormous axe, large enough it's questionable how someone her stature was picking it up - and follows it with explosives launched at the man's back. He has to dodge, and then turn to fend off her hail of weaponry, leaving a possible opening for Ellisaria.

Which she's quick to exploit, of course.
