"Likewise. He doesn't like Bells because they pattern-match to the Valar and it's a bad match but enough to make him chafe."

"The very summary suggests this is an unflattering comparison."

"It's not a similarity any more sophisticated than 'powerful, willing to throw that power around, disapproves of me and my life choices'."

"Well, all I want to do is look at him for a bit, I don't even have to make the pronouncements to him if he doesn't want."

"No, I bet he'll be curious. And I'm curious. And I think the non-evil Maitimos are curious."

"Yes, I was planning to convey the results to the non-evil Maitimos."

"So in that case I'm sure he'd rather hear it too."

"Fair enough. We can't hook up the crystal ball system to our peal because it relies on adjacency, has anyone put you on the brainphone network and introduced you to Jane?"

"Not yet, no."

[Well, this is the brainphone, and Jane is our adjacency-independent relay person for interdimensional messages.] She conferences in Jane.

[Hi.]

[Hello.] "So I can let you know when it'd be convenient to come squint at the evil Maitimo?"

"Exactly. Although Jane has approximately infinite attention and is also good to ask questions of about whatever else."

"Thank you. I will certainly take advantage of that a lot while we're integrating peals."

"Do you think your template would also like to line up and be stared at?"

"I doubt they'll mind, but there are fewer mysteries..." He invites his template to come line up and be stared at.

They do that.

"...huh, I think you and your respective Maitimos where applicable are always going to have societal reasons to be secrets? It doesn't have to be any specific reason but there has to be one. ...Tentatively but only that in the absence of Shadow Findekáno confirming template immunity to ambient evil."

"That's useful, thank you. ...what a bizarre attractor -"

"I see weirder things. Metacausality is very concerned about matchmaking."

"Is there an explanation for your peals' Bells mostly dating the same people and our peals' Bells having no two alike?"

"Found different people, I guess? Something else might come clear when I've looked at people enough but that's what I've got now. We seem to have run into more of an assortment of recurring themes than you - and those of your recurring themes that wind up interested in Bells do so in ways that are pretty hit-or-miss, like, your peal has two Bells who Maitimos could have snapped up and only one of them managed it, while most of our peal's Bell-partners are always bisexual and that makes it likelier any given set thrown together will work out."

Nod. "How does templates' sexuality work -"

"Depends on the template. Bells are usually girls and usually straight but can be anything, I don't think we've even seen all the options yet. I think Maitimos only come in gay - much less confident they only come in male, though, there could be girl ones - I think you will always be matched up with your Maitimos at least until and unless tampered with but could be sort of irrelevantly bi under that? ...Not in a Flat Arda though. Most purples are always-bisexual. Jokers sort of take that to an extreme."

"Not in a flat Arda because we wouldn't get together," he says, nodding. "There's a bizarre sort of logic to that. I am surprised Maitimos might come in girl. That'd be - interesting."
