The blue is from the department of media and not qualified for this. Amseli rushes over.

When she comes in range Amseli sees images and smells scents and hears sounds-

-And that is what a bear is. You should avoid them until you're big and strong.

There's a tiny pulse of wordless anxiety / acceptance.

Sleep, my egg. (Love).

Hello.

"Hello. I'd heard someone wanted to place some eggs on Amenta, is that right?"

Yes. That's us.

"I've been putting out preliminary feelers but I'd like to know more about what you have in mind."

We don't know!

We cannot know. We are old and set in our Ways.

But that is the point.

Our hope is for them to find a new Way for Draak to be.

They will hatch in approximately sixty to ninety days...?

We want to stay with them until they're very close to hatching. And we want to know what becomes of them in broad strokes after they hatch and grow, but don't care much to be actively involved at that point.

Yes. And we'll talk about hatchlings to anyone who should know, whatever seems relevant about them.

"Can Amentans communicate with them in the eggs?"

Hmm. There is only one way to find out. You are an Amentan, and the eggs are right here.

The boy's asleep. The girl might still be awake, though.

Hello, she tries.

Sleepy confusion. Anxiety. Then curiosity!

Hello?

Welcome to Amenta.

...Confusion. What is 'welcome'? What is 'Amenta'?

Amenta is a planet. It looks like so, from far away. Welcome means the people on Amenta already are glad the egg has arrived.

Oh! The New Place.

...Places are very big.

Is Welcome like Love? Love means the first and second voices are glad she exists. It feels nice.

It's a little bit like that. Amseli would like to find some more people for her to live with when she hatches. Does she want to be with the one in the other egg? Does she know what kinds of things she'll want to see once out?

...Thinking is hard. Being near another hatchling sounds vaguely scary. Living with people sounds vaguely scary too. She doesn't know what things there are to see.

Amseli would guess that she'd want lots of wild outdoor space but needs to narrow it down. Why would living with people be scary?

They might want to eat me.

Amentans would never eat a person. That would be both wrong and really unappealing.

...Some animals only eat plants? Are Amentans one of those? It still seems scary.

(The parents are just passively listening to this exchange, fascinated.)

Amentans eat animals but not the ones who are people.

...What is 'people' then?

People are individuals who have especially complex thoughts.
