"All right, well, good? Where the fuck is here?"

"This place is called Milliways. It's an interdimensional bar. Your cousins got summoned here as part of this complicated situation where we learned they were going to be kidnapped by fairies tomorrow at their mother's request - she has a fairy who she met in the woods, and as far as fairies are concerned her children all belong to her - and we decided we could probably improve on that, and so we summoned them here. We showed them around our world for a little while. They called their father for advice, and he wanted you here. I'm sorry we didn't have a good way to ask ahead."

"They're my siblings. And it's cool. Who are you supposed to be?"

"My name is Alex. I'm, uh, only involved because of him -"

"I'm a fairy. Don't tell me your name. I was going to kidnap all of them, like I kidnapped their mother, but those people -" he gestures at Cassie and Alex - "thought that maybe if she had some way other than fairies to get her children back then she wouldn't end up so dreadfully indebted to fairies. - don't get indebted to fairies. It's generally very unwise."

"Why'd you kidnap their mother?"

"Didn't seem hard to do better than the last person to kidnap her."

"....valid. All right, well, from the fact that father wants me here I presume that he wants me to find out what's happening and you all want me here for some other reason. Anything else?"

"We want to go home. Father wants us home, too. I don't think they want to send us, though."

"How come you don't want to send them home?"

"Because then Cecelia decides that we're not going to help her out, and goes back to the fairies, who kidnap them again tomorrow, and who are not good at providing a suitable environment for children."

"Oh good, and here I thought I was going to have to point that out to you."

"So what, all of you are taking your marching orders from fairies?"

"I have mixed feelings about "send kids home to a demon rapist who loves them while scouring the planet for more women to rape and torture and murder" all by itself but "send kids home to be kidnapped by fairies who don't even object to any of that but just think the kids belong to their mom and by extension the fairy who owns her" seems pretty straightforwardly terrible."

"I would personally be delighted if they call off this nonsense where they integrate us with their civilization and leave me no choice but to take everyone back to fairyland."

Glare. "This is a complicated situation and we don't know the best thing to do. We'll try to arrange for you to have regular contact with your dad, if you want that."

"Obviously we want that. - also what's this about a demon rapist - ?"

"Your father's a demon, probably, and in any case possesses the Emperor of Scandinavia and then possesses his heir upon death. And he's planning to marry you the next time he dies and jumps. Just. So you know that."

"Man, nobody tells me anything. Fine. I'll stay. And the others'll stay, too, at least for a bit until we figure something better out."

"Thank you."

"Yeah."

She's honestly real concerned about this whole enslaved-to-fairies business, but it seems like the kind of thing that she should maybe talk over with her aunt when there are not any fairies in the room.

The fairy looks reasonably content with this conclusion on the whole and maybe mildly disappointed that he won't get to heroically prevent Cecelia's children being returned.

....then they can all go back home? He guesses?

Yeah.

When they head home it is even more obvious that all members of the group of Norwegian children consider Vigdis to be their leader. She asks them a lot of questions about what they've discovered here, and then instructs all of them to redouble their efforts on learning the local language, because they can't investigate a lot else about this place until they know that, and they're going to need to learn a lot about it if their father is going to have enough information to handle any of the complications this place presents. She herself spends a lot of time getting words out of Cassie (and Nova Girl, who she thinks is a pretty delightful person).

The other kids are calmer and a lot less sullen now that they feel like they're doing something useful here, although Tyr and Sigrun still don't like their mother much.

Well, that seems like an improvement?
