"Drawing, I don't really have much chance on trying much else, but lately I discover how to sculpt stuff with magic and did some really neat Filigree, which is fun."

"He has a weird dislike for painting."

"oh, cool! I might have to try magic sculpting at this point, once I've learned enough to do it - you don't like painting? Why?"

"Nothing against paint. It hasn't been long since I got serious about art as a hobby and mostly I would just draw with what I had in hand. So I never had much chance to practice and it gets everywhere instead of just going where you put it and it's a pain to fix mistakes."

"I think the way it gets everywhere is part of the charm, myself. And if I make a mistake-" he shrugs. "I work with it. I've made some pretty cool stuff out of a rogue spot of paint. Sure it's not true to life at that point, but a touch of the surreal doesn't hurt anyone."

"It does take some practice, though. And my gift does give me a bit of an advantage. If I'm trying to do something specific, a portrait or something, I can keep a tighter hold on the paint, stop it from going anywhere I don't want it to."

"He controls fluids," Sawney explains.

"Oh, cool."

"Yeah! I mostly use it for flight, but it's handy for all sorts of other things, too. It's not very good at flight," he adds, "But we didn't know about any other magic until Temple and Felix showed up - well, I had my breath gift, but it's not useful for much, and I don't like using it, anyway."

"Ventriloquism or something, right? Anyway, we are treating his overuse of his health gift, so no worries there."

"I bet Morgan is being himself at you," Henry tells James looking away from the sparring.

"Sort of, yeah," he answers Sawney distractedly, gaze still on the sparring pair. "It let's me talk to anyone I can see, without anyone else hearing. And Morgan's mostly just been feeding me a lot? I don't mind it. He's a good cook!"

"I think he made a bad first impression on you guys."

"Not to me," Gabe comments, he is watching James watching the sparring. "Don't you wish it was in there being beaten up?"

"Gabe!"

"Don't worry about offending any delicate sensibilities over here," he tells Henry with a laugh, glancing at him briefly.

"It'd be fun," he adds to Gabe, "But I like watching, too. Usually I get to watch Alex clean house, but this is great," he smirks, watching Alex snarl when Aaron dodges yet another hit. "He's so pissed."

It's a real shame they've got such an audience around here, they probably won't be able to retreat somewhere private enough that Jamie can help Alex calm down after the fight's over.

"Ah, okay."

"So you like to watch your brother beat up guys? Relatable."

"I like watching people fight in general, but Lex more than most. He loves fighting, and I love watching people do what they love. Passion and strength like that is-" hot, he almost says, and there's a slight pause as he corrects himself- "Inspiring.

"That sure is."

"I mean... yes. But, I feel like I am agreeing more with James' meaning than Gabe's."

"Wise decision. Is Aaron cheating?"

Jamie thinks he and Gabe probably mean roughly the same thing, even if he's being less blatant about it.

He blinks, "I dunno, is he?" He looks harder at Aaron.

"I am not using my gifts. That sounds decidedly unfair." Aaron says, dodging an attack. "I am still warded," back-flip, "but we are not actually hurting each other too much."

Jamie laughs, "You just did a back-flip," he points out, "I think we've sailed right past 'unfair' at this point."

Alex pauses a few arms-lengths away to glare at him, "Okay, now you're just showing off," he gets out between harsh breaths. He's actually smiling a bit, too, though. This is fun, even if it's also infuriating. He's learning a lot, too.
