Okay, they investigate this.

Yeah, that fruit punch was definitely spiked.

Remi is not happy about this. "Someone spiked the punch at the general food table." He looks down at the beach, "Did any of the other kids drink this?" There's a food table down there, too, and the punch bowl is far enough from the edge that the younger ones hopefully couldn't reach easily, but.

Well, they go about investigating that. One kid definitely drunk some, but didn't like the taste and spat it out. There are a few drunk teens, some of which accuse each other, but not in a way that brings much clarity to the matter.

They take care of the Henries and Gabe. A lot of the party's mood is diffused by now, but at least two thirds of everyone are still hanging out, and talking in quiet tones.

"They will live," A Henry announces, "I think Miner might have suffered hearing damage, but we will see if it's fixable. Do you guys still want to party?"

"What? So your incompetence can try kill my Ken again?" Roaja asks nostrils flaring.

"Sometimes things like this just slip through the net," Remi tells Roaja. "Still, whoever was responsible for keeping an eye on the food had best do a better job, next time," he tells Henry, frowning.

"I don't really want t'stay," Tobir says quietly. He's standing a bit apart from the rest of the small group, guilt practically radiating off his form.

"Yeah, you should go. ...I could stay to help around?"

"No, I think the situation is mostly under control at this point. You three should go home."

"Ken better come with me. Not after this."

Tobir doesn't argue with this, even if he hates the idea of having Ken out of their sight right now.

"Alright. No portals, just go to the house here," Remi tells the twins.

Heri just nods and gets up to leave, holding out a hand for Tobir.

Tobir takes his hand tentatively, and then they can go home.

Tobir can't stop thinking about it. His mind keeps going back to that moment with the fireworks, when the stream of fire got out of his control. Even with Gabe's magic, both of the Henries were injured. If Heri hadn't thought to redirect the explosion away-

"You're sorry? I almost killed us! If you hadn't made that portal, Gabe and Miner and Chemist could have died."

"Someone spiked your drink. I had the stupid idea of fireworks, by myself in the first place!"

He shakes his head violently, "No, it was a good idea, it would have been fun if I hadn't been an idiot who didn't even notice I was acting weird. The punch tasted funny, if I could have just paid attention."

"It was a party. You should feel safe at a party."

"And you should be able to bring fireworks to a party. You should be able to trust that your brother won't almost kill you by being careless. But if everything was the way it should be we wouldn't be here."

Heri is quiet on the way home. "I sill shouldn't have improvised something like that in the last minute," once they are in their room.

Tobir hugs him. "You couldn't have known. The Henries thought it was fine, right? This wasn't your fault." It was mine, he doesn't say.

"The Henries are me."

"Yeah, but they're... older you, with more experience and different lives. They're not you the way they're each other. And they usually know what they're doing. If they said it was fine, I think it would have been fine." He pauses. "We've just gotta be more careful, from now on."
