The wizardry spells designed to create diamonds should be simple to cast. In theory. If they didn't make any subtle mathematical or geometrical mistakes.

(They did, in fact, make several of said subtle mistakes.)

It's over very quick, with a small physical explosion. Most of the energy manifested into a potent Miscast.

Nicole's fox form is actually larger than her human one, so she declined to change, instead lying flat inside the little shield.

She sees the spell coming apart a second before it hits. Worse, most of the energy is attracted to the other active magic in the area: Her shield.

"Ah fuck, big miscast-!"

She lets out a lewd moan and her whole body tenses up. Then she shivers and quickly sheds all of her clothes. And starts touching herself.

Nghk-!

Fucking fuck!

She has just about enough presence of mind to get back out of fox form before the lust utterly overtakes her.  Dammit Tamamo this is why we do not rush things like this!

Nnnnn you just have to discharge the energy. That's how miscasts work.

What if she was kissing the nearest available Alicia skin. What then.

Well then Alicia would be kissing and cuddling her right back, obviously.

"'M glad you're here. Miscasts are... Less pleasant, alone."

Aaaaand back to kissing. And cuddling. And rubbing and groping.

Oooh, rubbing and groping.  Yes more of that please.

"Glad you're.  Here.  You're really nice."  No-one she'd rather be stuck in a Tamamo-induced lust-drunk haze with, so far - twice over.

Nicole has Opinions about where Alicia's mouth should go. And also thinks that her ears should be thoroughly scratched as a reward for being a good girl about it.

...Eventually, though, the miscast lust settles enough that she thinks to write down observations about where exactly it failed, and how.

Mmhmm she's a good girl!

...oh.  Oh they're done now.  Aw.  Darn.  Oh, well, um.  Science.

...What did she see?  ...It's so good to have hands again...

"Sorry, we can go back to that in a bit, I need to get you off too, I just- Don't want to forget-"

The spell looked fine for about the first third of the time it should have taken to cast. She might have simply screwed up the timing, but the part where it was going to start building a tight spike of energy instead formed a broad ray, which twisted everything else into nonsense.

"...And this is why I didn't think we were ready to test the compression engine yet, dammit," she mutters, "we were neither ready nor prepared!"

"...The spike that's supposed to happen here just, blew out.  Wasn't tight enough, it just - loosely beamed off into the distance.  Not sure why but I'd bet the improvised nature of the setup did not help.  But when a goddess shows up in person to tell you to get a move on and you're still supernaturally low-impulse-control...  Well, at least this probably can't happen twice?"

"I noticed the same... I was getting pretty darn bored of just writing, but occasionally seeing how it blows up does, uh, point in the right direction, right? And I can't stare at math all day. I have to do things."

...She gets a lewd smirk, and nervously manages to say, "Like you."

"Yes please," she all but purrs, posing lasciviously.

"And yeah I do see your point there, I guess.  But this is - it's a megaproject.  We should've tested a component, not that I get any credit for pointing that out when I was just as eager to turn the whole damn thing on."
