It's early in the morning, eleven days after the strange dream. (Though Ava hasn't been counting.)
She wakes up, and looks over at her side table where her glasses are. Moving on autopilot, she puts on her glasses...
"Fuck, yeah, I — I didn't think this was a thing that happened, I thought that first round approvals were limited to people who had, like, terminal cancer or some shit like that —"
She hugs Hailey hard and crushes her close. "Mine," she says. "We're going to be okay. This means — this means a lot, actually. It means we're safe. It's not a ton, but it'll cover the rent, and that's — yeah."
She squeezes back tightly. "Yours. And fuckin' yeah. This means we've got margin. We've got room to treat ourselves more often and still be saving. We're stable."
She kisses Ava firmly.
Ava kisses back and smiiiiiiles.
"I love you. So glad you prompted me through this. This has been... just an incredible month. First the gender thing, now this..."
"S'like the odds are actually in our favor for once."
She grins and shakes her head. "Void knows we've fuckin' earned it. Don't think it works like that, but if it did, we have."
Ava nods thoughtfully, not wanting to voice that she doesn't think it works that way either.
"Yeah..."
She kisses Hailey's cheek and smiles softly.
Hailey squeezes Ava hard. "We'll still be careful, still prioritize keeping a big fuckin' buffer of savings in case shit happens. We're not gonna get caught out by assumptions. But maybe things are gonna go right."
"And I mean, we know magic exists now, so. Lots of stuff might go a lot better than we expected."
Hailey barks out a little laugh and nods. "Yeah! Magic shakes up all the math. Who the fuck knows what's going on. Maybe luck is a thing!"
"I guess maybe? But why wouldn't they say? I dunno, maybe I'm just seeing ghosts."
"Maybe they don't want us leanin' on it too much? Maybe s'only a probabilistic change or somethin'?"
"Who knows? Could be anything, with magic in the picture."
Ava shakes her head. "Probably best not to speculate."
"Well, I'd best distract you, then."
Hailey smirks and slips her hands under Ava's shirt, kissing her firmly and scratching along her shoulder blades.
A wanton grin stretches Hailey's lips, and she tugs Ava into a kiss, making out heatedly while she walks her backward toward the bedroom.
