Elemi has finally met her mother's standards for keeping her powers under control. She can share a glance without touching her mother's mind and her father can't notice incidental contact either. So finally she gets to go out unsupervised. She's just in time to be starting high school at the local public school, well to the extent a magnet school with not so secret supplemental funding from her family counts as a public school.
Still she's excited she's going to get to meet so many people. There's a lightness to her steps as she makes her way to school for the first time. Her neat braids and her skirt flap a little as she walks. She smiles at the various other kids walking the same path and waves to a few of them. She pauses for a moment just before she walks in and admires the lettering of the school's name "Galileo High School." She takes a breath and then steps forward, time for the next stage of her life. She steps in.
