Haru sometimes gets coffee at Tim's, when he happens to feel like it on a random morning, or when he needs to be up long enough to finish out a guiding session with June. This morning it's the first thing.
She nods happily. "That's my charm, yes! I never leave the house without it." Headtilt. "Okay, I guess I left the house without it Friday morning, and then again Friday morning after you drove me there to pick up clothes and stuff." Nuzzle. "Never leave the house without it, except on Fridays." Giggle.
Bedtime, yes. Cara is, to the surprise of nobody, exactly as cuddly a sleeper on zero backlash.
(-Well, close-to-zero backlash. When he returns from washing up she appears to have accumulated a little bit.)
"-Oh, I was doing another test. Was trying starfish/spikeball shapes, like you suggested." Sleeeepy Cara.
"Oh, that's a relief, out of control powers are a problem. June's got one of those." Snuggle.
"Goodnight, Haru." She gives him a sleepy kiss on the chest, and is out like a light.
The next morning she wakes up early, wiggles out of Haru's arms as sneakily as she can, and heads off to wash up, delighting in the lack of time pressure.
She reinstalls all her social media apps as she brushes her teeth, then emails Prof Meadows to confirm she's dropping out and thanking her for everything. She also texts Aunt Rachel to schedule a longer phone call for the afternoon.
What next... oh, right, she wanted to make Haru breakfast. She gets started on some fresh pancake batter, pulling out some frozen blueberries to mix in.
She pokes one of her mostly European friendgroups - Ivan is free, so she calls him to catch up on his new contract (interesting, surprisingly competent clients, easily his favorite in a while, he's hoping to get more work from them in the future) and his boy problems (the poor man cannot catch a break, she needs to help him with his tinder profile or something...). Once he's satisfied his promise to catch her up on his life before asking her about esper shit, she explains her powers as she currently understands them, confirms she's going to drop out to live the glamorous esper life, and gushes about Haru a normal amount (he's really good, you see).
When the batter is ready, she says goodbye to Ivan and takes a second to text her group chat with Mags and Reve to explain what she knows about her power so far and ask for ideas.
mags: stars above that's a cool power. um um ummmm.
mags: on the sensory side, you should see how smoothly you can reposition it and work with a spherical shell that you expand outwards, that's going to be best for sensing.
mags: Reve is in class but when she sees this, she'll - oh lol she's typing now
reve: stars above that's - oh lol Mags already said that.
reve: Anyways. You could juggle something heavy as a momentum battery, right? Just toss it back up as it's coming down. Might get annoying, but it could be useful, too?
reve: Oh but then you need to be in the same place to catch it. Probably not a good idea, then...
reve: Hmm, how else could you store momentum... pressurized air? Jetpack?
mags: hhghh wait wait let me do some math real quick.
reve: oh fuck yeah. I'm a genius.
reve: :dancing_penguin: :dabbing_cowboy: :rainbow_party_bear:
mags: what? no, those were all terrible ideas except for the basic concept of a momentum battery.
reve: oh fuck yeah. I'm a high concept genius.
mags: sure babe. Anyways this might not work for safety reasons and you will want to commission a shop to build and test it because if it's not well built it could fucking explode and that would be very bad,
reve: extremely bad,
mags: but a well-built flywheel in a backpack could store so much momentum for you, and like half of the usual design constraints don't apply because you're handling the power transfer with literal magic.
mags: You'd need to get used to gyroscope forces but it'd be worth it, you'd have so much extra juice on-hand.
reve: ...oh fuck. yeah, you're a genius.
mags: oh I know c:
reve: huh I think our new superhero went afk on us.
reve: let's brainstorm codenames for her, that sounds fun.
mags has pinned a message
mags: how about "pinball girl"? you know, because of how this lets her bounce around?
mags: ...why did you react with :pensive_puking_cowboy: ?? :c
reve: because it's not a good name, dear.
Haru comes down the stairs (though only after Ren has done the same thing, accepted pancakes, and left for the morning). "G'morning, Cara."
She giggles. "They're for you! And me too, and Ren already had some, but you've been taking care of me all week, so I wanted to do something nice for you."
Happy wiggles!
When she's finished making enough pancakes to feed them both, she starts to pull up a chair next to him, and then stops and asks "Do you mind me optimizing for casual guiding contact when it's not inconvenient, even now that it's not medically necessary?"
She giggles. "I've been your guest all week! It's been great, honestly."
Sit, lean, happy little noise at the contact, and then she starts digging into her food as well.
