In turn, her ears perk up at the mention of ancient ruins. (Literally. Why do humans say that in books about other humans? Human ears don't perk! She spent a few months trying to get a very close look at human ears to figure out what they were describing before being convinced it was just wrong. Humans perk up. Human ears do not.)

"I had known about the horrible monsters and the rumored treasure, but are there truly ancient ruins? Nothing I have seen convincingly argued it wasn't one of the more known prior settlements in the area. One could argue those qualify, but I personally would not."

"There are Thassilonian ruins down there. I believe they are genuine... pre-Earthfall and everything. It took me two days to get down. They're fairly deep into Nar-Voth."

Thoughtful nod. "Thassilonian ruins are certainly ancient! I am impressed. I have no camping spells myself, I would not want to go so deep without a Rope Trick or similar. Carrying water would also be heavy, I cannot create it for myself. It is good to hear others are less limited."

"I have some very good tricks for surviving down there. If you're willing to share, did you encounter anything interesting? I haven't spent much time in the tunnels near the surface."

She hesitates for a moment. Share and share alike, if she wants to hear anything of his adventures it will be easier if she's already opened up herself. How does she phrase this... right.

"Sometimes magic detection and a sense for illusions can get me places most people don't spot. In most cases it is nothing major, but today... I believe someone made a recent attempt at a treasure they had located. I found their corpses by the stink." She pauses solemnly.

"I cleaned out the zombies that killed them, at least. You?"

"There were quite a few monsters. Derro, ettercaps, a grey ooze, et cetera. No undead, thankfully. I was worried about running into them. There were some signs of their presence..."

He changes his voice to a more grandiose tone. "Strange contraptions and devices filled the complex. The ruins didn't have any books or writing. Must've all rotted away over time. However, the Thassilonians had methods of storing information that don't involve paper. I recovered some magic gems. They can project out collections of text. I haven't had time to go through it all yet."

"Undead are an issue, though I can handle the more minor variants. I had to run from a gibbering mouther", as Lhín eventually declared it was named, "on my own way out."

"Well done finding a novel complex! Impressive. I suppose the deeper parts of the Vaults are extensive, but it nevertheless means a place none have before reached and returned from alive. Can you read the Thassilonian tongue, or do you plan to Comprehend Languages?"

"I can read Thassilonian. The text is simply dense and makes references to many things I do not understand. The literal meanings are... strange..."

A somewhat impressed nod. "Do you anticipate it describing something you can manage on your own? As a caster myself, I have found assistance invaluable in handling anything of substantial interest, but your experiences may of course differ."

"I'm not sure yet! What circle are you? I'm third."

Impressive indeed. If she wants to be with time she needs to brag here. Goes a little against her nature, but oh well. "Second, but a sorcerer sort of second. I have far more spells at each circle than the typical wizard, I've managed eight firsts in a day."

If she had already finished the Urgathoan cult she would point to that, but she hasn't. That endorsement is useful. Oh well.

"Nice. What spells you do have?"

"Color Spray and Minor Image at first, and another one I don't know the name for which is quick to cast and can blind enemies for a moment. I call it Moon's Reflection. I also have Ray of Enfeeblement. At second I have Burst of Radiance and Invisibility." No point hiding any of that, she plans on telling the guard for tactical reasons soon enough

...right. Invisibility. Which she has, and which would have gotten her past the mouther without an issue. Dumb. Oh well, she survived.

"Useful. I'm a shaman. Kind of like a cleric but without a god. We're more like druids in some ways. I have spells for water and food and healing and flight and a host of other things. I can induce sleep and heal wounds without spells, but only once per creature per day. I can't do illusions."

"A good set of options! I find illusions quite valuable myself, but so too is choosing the spells you need each day. Do shamans have a shelter spell, or were you finding some other way to rest down below? I don't believe clerics get Rope Trick or an equivalent, though I could always be uninformed."

"We have a spell called sylvan hideaway at third circle. It's not a cleric spell. Makes a camouflaged trapdoor into an extradimensional space. Lasts ten hours when I cast it. Twice as long as rope trick would."

"At third circle? That does make sense, as a Rope Trick with an Extend built in. I suppose a second circle version at half the duration would do you little good, five hours of sleep being rather insufficient."

He smiles. "Indeed. My name is Yanor. It's good to meet you."

"Tencednil. Good to meet you as well." She sketches a half-bow, as much as that's possible when she's sitting. "Will you be watching the Breaching tomorrow?"

"Certainly. I'll be around the city for a while longer. At least until I finish decoding the gems. Do you have a preferred method of contact?"

"Normally I would go through the Bank. I have an account, and they will take deposits to another account whether they come in the form of money or information. That isn't precisely an option tomorrow, of course. I'll be in the Hall of Lies around noon." Yes she is well aware you were asking for future purposes, she will give you a way to contact her in the future, but it doesn't work for the topic they were actually on so she will give a different answer as well. It's not like they have a time limit here or anything.

"Then I will meet you there, assuming nothing else comes up." He turns away and begins paging through the incomprehensible papers.

And she drifts off to talk with other, likely less interesting, people in need of a channel.

Time passes. The circular channel room opens soon enough. The cleric channels once everyone is inside the circle.

Tencednil's wounds are mostly healed.

At this point, the remaining scrapes should heal overnight. No need to wait for another channel.

She has quite a bit more money than she's used to having, and she might need to do some exploration on her own this time around. Maybe not, but it would probably be good to prepare for it. Captain Paras had a wand of Infernal Healing, and it definitely showed its value. It would be even more useful if she was delving multiple days deep into the sewers. She might want to plan for that.

She will spend the rest of the day trying to find who to commission such a wand from, or if there happens to be anyone selling them. It might take longer than a day if she wants a reasonable price, and she won't make any progress tomorrow. That's fine. An hour spent now is one not spent later, when she might need to be fast.
