Her Dancing Lights collapse as they enter. Unsurprising, it must be Deeper Darkness to block her vision.

Hopefully the floor doesn't self-repair and spit the piton back out. Yanor probably would know if it did something like that. Down she goes, dropping blindly into the dark. This was at least supposed to be safe, assuming none of the enchantments have faded. If it isn't, she might be able to catch herself with a Feather Fall.

Might.

This place is utterly dark and magically silent. Her fall is slowed by some external force. Her feet touch a perfectly smooth floor within a few seconds. She still can't see or hear anything.

Lhín can tell what she's signing just fine. She zooms over and applies a steady force towards whatever seems exit-like in the area. Darkness is a problem for silly people.

The ceiling of this grand hall is made of polished gray marble. It rises to a height of twenty-five feet, supported by ornate columns whose central eight-foot-sections have been carved to resemble a beautiful woman. A ten-foot-square platform sits in a wide alcove on the north wall, atop which lies a white marble sarcophagus with a painted lid. The sound of gently running water echoes along the hall to the west.

Yanor is waiting by the exit of the shaft.

"Lhín will notice when one of the others comes down. I'll go in to show them the way out, the fall is rather disorienting."

Tomas and Julen come down soon enough. Lhín's blindsight is quite helpful in this situation.

Blindsight is helpful in so many situations.

Now, the room. Still polished? Well, with nothing to create dust in here, maybe that just stays the case? She isn't sure how possible that is.

"Janor, do you see any traces of anyone else on this ground? If the area isn't self-cleaning, this floor should retain marks if the ceiling is any indication."

And then, of course, there's running water. How does that even happen. Thousands of years and the water is supposed to still be running? Through waves, storms, and everything else? And this place is still mostly untouched? That has to be magic at work, and probably some extra magic on top of that to avoid the water wearing away at the surrounding stone over thousands of years.

...fine. This is going to be impossible to see through, but someone should try it. Detect Magic.

There's a lot of auras and most of them overlap with each other. She can make out multiple strong abjurations covering the whole space and what looks to be a few moderate universal auras. She might be seeing some transmutation too? It's hard to tell and the spell fails to give her an exact number. The room is lit with standard continual flames contained in hanging glass spheres.

Yep that's about what she expected. She drops it promptly — Detect Good can have consequences for the caster if it catches something too strong, and they're not supposed to last and she's never heard of Detect Magic being similar but she has also never heard of someone trying to Detect the spells of ancient Thassilonian runelords. Who knows what might happen.

"There are some Permanent spells, probably abjurations and maybe some transmutation. The original wards are definitely still around. I don't know how well they've handled the millennia, but they're at least bright enough that I'm not confident in spotting any traps or magic items around here. Those look like standard Continual Flames, though." She points to the spheres. "Also, my Detect cut out sharply at the walls. They might be lead or it might be a spell effect. It didn't look like the normal fade as you Detect through stone."

Yanor nods. "The statues are depictions of the Runelord Sorshen." He walks over to the sarcophagus and points detect magic at it. "The painting on the lid is also of Sorshen. The sarcophagus itself doesn't seem to be magical beyond the effects covering the area. My detect can't penetrate past its surface either."

"Shall we start our pilfering here with grave-robbing, then, or do you think it better to leave possible traps untouched until we know more of the area?" Her ears at an angle, the amusement in her voice is clear. That phrasing it entirely intentional.

More seriously, and back to a less marked expression. "If we are to extract anything, we must eventually risk a trap. Here or later would work, but if we never touch anything, this expedition will be wasted. This may not be the best place to start when we cannot tell if there is magic within, but we must begin somewhere."

Tomas walks over and studies the sarcophagus. "I don't think there are any traps on the exterior. It's not a magic item. The lid isn't locked." He tries to lift the lid. "Damn, that's really heavy. Julen, can you—"

Julen pulls the lid open. It takes some effort. The lid must weigh hundreds of pounds.

Within the sarcophagus lies the perfectly preserved body of a woman identical to the one depicted on the lid, clad in diaphanous flimsy robes and an enormous amount of splendid jewelry. She looks almost as if she’s sleeping, not dead. She's incredibly, impossibly attractive.

Julen whistles. "Would you look at that..."

She's impossibly attractive for a human. ...she's also incredibly attractive for an elf, but Tencednil has exactly zero intention of admitting that, and the aesthetics aren't perfectly the same. She appears less affected than she in fact is, and certainly less than anyone else here.

"Do wizards have a spell that makes a copy of their body? I suppose even if Thassilon did, it might not be known any more."

"I'm not sure—"

"Trap! It's trapped... and a strange magical trap at that. I've never seen anything like it before."

"Shall we continue our search in hopes of finding something less trapped, or does someone see a way around it?" Detect Magic, doing her best to only see the inside of the sarcophagus. What school is this trap? Is it magical at all?

The interior of the sarcophagus, in addition to the numerous magical effects covering the area, emanates strong necromancy and moderate enchantment. There's also more unique auras smothered beneath the stronger ones. She can't tell which, if any, are the trap.

"I will try to disable it. Everyone, stand back." He pulls out a set of strange crystal trinkets.

Oh good, in that case she has an idea if this doesn't work. Hopefully it will, though.

Back she stands.
