"I'll take notes on the back, where would I get a frame?"  Om nom porridge.  "No, Artigas tested Owls on me- when more wise I can actually cast first-circle Cures, it's only as myself alone that I can't."  She's keeping her voice low but trying not to act like it's an embarrassing secret.

"Huh. I didn't think gods picked dumbasses. Thanks for the channels, Nethys."

"Perhaps He truly so likes explosions."  She pokes at her porridge for a bit.

"...did you know gods can't choose clerics adjacent on both axes?"  she bursts out.  "Not merely don't, can't?"

"- yeah? It's like paladins but looser."

Khalida huffs a sigh and puts a hand over her face.  "Does everyone know this already save me?"

"No, but everybody who passed their classes does."

Grumbly Osiriani swearing.  "Why do they even teach everyone such, haven't they special priest school?"

"They covered it before that, in case anybody wanted to be a cleric and needed the motivation to quit fucking around and get Lawful."

Another sigh.  Monch monch porridge.  "Well, seems I must also.  Or if I haven't returned to Balance* before I rise from Neutral, I lose my healing powers.  For doing too much Good."

*The academic-writing dialect of Taldane Khalida learned has different technical terms for Neutral on the different axes, for the sake of letting this sentence make any sense.

"Well, if you want to know where to do some quick Evil you have come to the right section of the Worldwound line."

"I suppose, but wiser myself thinks I oughtn't fuck men any longer, so the most fun choice is gone."  Tiny version of the coquette smirk.

"Tragic! It would be so convenient, you just wait a bit longer to Alter Self and bam, don't even have to sneak the leftover herbs out of the whores' quarters. And with choices like these who wouldn't be swooning," she adds with an eloquent eyeroll.

"And Alter Self is second, no?  I could cast it if I had it, I just haven't the ink for it."  Porridge nom.  " 'S not even as there's better food I could join in, I'd scarcely get anything for it but extra Evil."

"Well, I'm not trying to be Evil any more, maybe it'd give me pull with the Judge if I let you prep it out of my book, only I would have to pretend very hard not to know how long you left it or something. Better food, on the other hand, yeah, no."

Khalida's opening her mouth to continue the bit as it hits her- Txell offering to share her spellbook, that casually, even if it's a hypothetical- and she has to put a hand up to her face and duck her head to hide her smile.  (It's probably still obvious she's blushing but whatever, she can't do anything about that.)

It still takes her a few moments to come up with actual words for a response, but she can fill them with porridge-munching.

"I needn't all the way to Lawful, at least- I know not that I could, it takes years."

"Yeah, it's probably impossible to do it suddenly."

"Not all the way across Balance, not that I ever heard- the Sarenrites say everyone can clear their past away and start anew if they- regret, is that the Taldane?  But I can't regret leaving.  ...Many things since leaving, I could have been less dumbass about."

"The Sarenrites're probably saying you can regret away all your Evil, right? Not your Chaos."

"Well, it works for Evil, I don't expect it shouldn't work for Chaos, theoretically?"  They need a Sarenrite, here, not a brand-new Nethysian, they need a whole brigade of Sarenrites- but they absolutely don't need her to try too hard at it and wind up like the shopkeepers' wives who'd come down to the Broken Crocodile every solstice with baskets of food and sad judgy eyes.  "Evil is perhaps easier to regret?  Or they perhaps keep too long those in the convents, for excessive caution."

"Huh, I think I'd find chaos easier to regret."

Khalida makes a little listening "mm?" sound, and scrapes up a last spoonful of porridge.  "...I expect it may be different by the thing?"

"Yeah, maybe. But like, if I went and did some Chaotic bullshit it'd have consequences, you know? Not just Judgmenty ones that I'm guessing about anyway, ones where it'd be annoying in my life."

"Didn't the Evil things also?  ...I suppose less under the old government?"

"Yeah, not at all under the old government pretty much. There are evil things that could've, like, murdering someone important is probably also evil and would've gotten me in shit? But nothing that I did."
