Going on hikes is a form of getting out of the house which doesn't require a car, so Xander does it most weekends. Mostly he walks a particular set of trails which he's timed out to last a certain number of podcast episodes, but he's nearing the end of the season and it's narratively very tense and he can tell he'll want to keep going for longer than usual. So he takes a new turn.
Maybe once my parents settle down some we can whisper. ...He considers this. Or maybe that still wouldn't be smart. We'll at least have about two hours a weekday between when I get home from school and they get home from work.
I can sign but I don't know if you can understand signing and it's kind of uncomfortable.
I thought you might not. Can I see you try it? You're already magically comprehensible in two forms.
It's a frowny face. The two dots are eyes and then the curve is a frown. It's sideways.
What does the :3 one mean? Can your face do that even slightly? (Copying :3 does not take her nearly as long as copying "his handwriting" did before.)
He tries for a few seconds. Not really. Some animals have faces like that, like cats.
Nod nod nod.
Do you have a sleep schedule currently? I can still go on the floor while you adjust.
It was boring out there and I was sleeping as much as possible, so it shouldn't be hard for me to stay up however long is convenient.
Zeal feels, irrationally, that it's very rude of Promise to not let him sleep on the floor for her, and rationally that it's actually very polite given that she seems to be a sane person who probably finds obvious devotion off-putting (and so this way he's less likely to end up living a completely magicless life, in the long run). That'll be when we go to church in the morning, then.
That should be fine. You can read books or browse the internet or even watch movies with headphones. ...Hm. A movie is a series of videos that are arranged to tell a story.
He pulls up his folder of movies and scans over it. Oh, knowing nothing about your taste I might suggest Narnia, since it's probably better at explaining Christianity than me alone?

I should explain some stuff first. The beginning of this has real historical events, although the characters are I think all fictional. But then they go to a fantasy land which as far as I know doesn't exist anywhere real.
