... Muvaki shrugs awkwardly. She doesn't exactly know how to engage with that, actually.

the hug is really nice, though.

Ember can keep hugging her for as long as she'd like!

But she doesn't want to let go that's kinda pathetic???

aand they need to go find people to do laundry for. Which is. Slightly less pathetic. Money is useful.

Then they can go look for some people to do laundry for.

Here are some people! Not the people they were looking for, but still people. These ones are wearing the uniform of the Kenabres guard.

"...going to be so annoying about it if we can't find her."

"Maybe they should've told their people not to run off for no reason. What were our guys supposed to do, cuff her the whole walk there?"

"Hell if I know. No pun intended."

Ok it's hiding time!!!

If they're hiding now, Ember knows where the good spots are! Here (very gentle tug), down this little alleyway is a good nook where it's really hard for anyone to throw rocks at you.

Nook seems good! She is tuggable into the nook.

(She doesn't say anything. She's pretty stressed.)

"I think there are magic spells for looking different, but I don't know any of them. Do you?"

She flips through the pages of her pilfered spellbook in her head. "...I have the basic spell for that, but - it won't last very long, and I - I didn't prepare it." Because she's an idiot, of course they'd still be looking for her, she gave them her name,

She nods. "Maybe you could cut your hair, or something like that? ...that might not be the best way to do it, I don't know a lot about disguises."

She thinks. "...different clothes, maybe? I do have Mending, if we can find old torn stuff..."

Nod. She bites her lip. "If it's just torn, the owner probably would have repaired it themself, but someone might be willing to sell something that's too small for them or anyone else in their family."

She nods and tries to think.

...oh!

"I have - some stuff, from the -" she winces minutely "...from yesterday. Scrolls I don't want, a pair of gems." (The statue was creepy and heavy didn't seem valuable - she'd broken it and pried the eyes out on her trip into the city.)

"If we can find someone to buy them that be plenty to pay for new clothes and more food."

"I think the priest who sells scrolls buys them too. And there's a magic item shop, but I don't know if the owner does anything with scrolls or gems."

Wait, don't Abadarians enforce the Worldwound treaty? "...the priest might turn me in."

"...Oh."

She could give them to Ember, and Ember could sell them to mister Rathimus, but Ember thinks it might make Muvaki nervous to suggest that.

"We could try the magic shop and see what they say?"

(Ember has a good intuition for such things!)

Muvaki nods hesitantly. (She's still curled up in the nook.)

"It's this way." (Not the same direction as the guards.)

Muvaki will attempt to follow! She's a bit unsteady on her feet (she's used to being sliiightly more agile, she should fix that tomorrow...) but she can manage.

Most of the items for sale in the Ancientries and Wonders Shop are listed by description (occasionally with a note about how long it will take to commission one) rather than out for display — even with a security golem, displaying all of them openly would be as good as inviting a robbery. Still, there are a few items displayed openly — a crescent-shaped pendant, a sword, a Cloak of Resistance, and so on. It does seem like he sells scrolls, albeit with a focus on arcane scrolls, though the scrolls (like many of the magic items he has to hand) are kept in his password-protected Bag of Holding. Beyond the magic items, there's also a basket of non-magical "oddities": a map nearly a century out of date, a pair of bent spectacles, a hollow cane...

...she picks up the glasses, looking at them thoughtfully.

"Those belonged to Ser Rossel, you know. He said they were lucky, he wouldn't even hear of purchasing a Remove Blindness. ...Of course, the demons got him in the end, so they can't have been that lucky."

She's lost in thought and doesn't respond immediately.

Muvaki's vision has never been amazing. These are bent, but she could fix them. And... maybe it'd help her be harder to find? People with scars on their faces look very different, and glasses are like a scar.

She pulls the gems out of her sack and holds them out to show the shopkeeper.

He lowballs her, but only by a little.
