She could ask her direct superiors... but they probably wouldn't know.  She could raise a query with Organizational Relations... but they wouldn't get back to her until after she's done with Gwen, she'd be astonished if they answered the question, and they'd hold it against her for a long while.

"Not with any hope of getting an answer."

"Can we talk about who you would want to be in Villarosa?"

"There's no way around this?  Nothing I can do to affect it?"

"Well, my lord has chosen you and does not like to take back his choice.  But you could stay here for... at least some years, as long as you spend some time building out Villarosa."

"There's technically some choice that might affect what happens to the... girl who might be you... afterwards, but we can get to that later once you have a clearer picture of who she is?  Or else, you can choose that she be..."  Lila shrugs her wings.  "Dismissed, and her spirit presumably sent beyond the world."

That doesn't sound bad.  Or at least, no worse than saying she's going to die.  But still... if Gwen thinks of the other possibility... 

"And if she is me... then what?"

"Then you grow up again in Villarosa, without your memories." 

And with a heap of Fate shaping who she becomes... but Lila isn't going to mention that.  Gwen should probably be able to figure it out on her own.

Gwen slowly nods.  That's not too horrible either.  And if there's nothing she can do about the thing she doesn't like, she might as well get on with doing what she can.  She's learned that over many years with Mother. 

And at least Lila, unlike Mother, seems to be on her side.
