"The island's not Auradon," she says.

(She has no intention of being flirted with. DO NOT GET PREGNANT is one of these fundamental things about the island that Alida has learned and holds to, and the way she reads it this means not getting into bed with any man she can't beat barehanded.)

"In some ways the Isle makes people I like better."

Now that's just flattery.

"Right," she says drily. "I think I can guess that you shouldn't say that around too many Auradonians if you want to pass Remedial Goodness yourself."

"Not having to censor what I say is one of the advantages of being here and not Louisiana."

I'm sorry, what.

... No, what does that sentence mean.

("Censor" is not a word in common use in the Isle, which has neither censuses nor any authority with the power to control information more precisely than "if you say it near me I'll punch you.")

He sounds like he's saying "not having to consider the consequences of my words is one of the advantages of being here and not Louisiana." But he has to consider the consequences of his words, everyone has to consider the consequences of his words. Maybe he means he's more powerful here, so he can get away with more stuff, so in that sense he doesn't have to, he just ought to, and he's strong enough that he can be tactically inefficient if he wants to indulge in the luxury of flirting with islanders?

"Hm. Well. It's good to be a prince."

"Not a prince. Technically."

"Technically."

"Now, for some basic style stuff-- do you guys know how to fall?"

"Falling doesn't take much knowing," she says drily. "Are you asking if I know how to land?"

"Do you know how to fall in such a way that it doesn't injure you? It does seem to me that this is a basic survival skill for the Isle."

Is he saying that on Auradon you can survive a fall of any height just by knowing, or does he mean, like, twenty feet, forty feet, sixty feet... She's seen someone fall eighty feet and walk it off, but, you know, there may not be magic on the Isle but that doesn't mean everyone's quite the same species.

"From how high up?"

"Standing on the floor."

"... That injures people in Auradon?"

"If you fall hard you can break a bone."

"Huh. Well. Let's see if we fall the way you want us to."

(She doesn't mind talking to Asher, but she does want him to remember that there's people in the room who aren't her, and might possibly have her back if it was cheap enough, just to discourage him in starting anything he'd rather not have witnesses for.)

Asher kicks Wei Wuxian, who is staring off into space.

--and he does in fact fall with flawless form, although he looks very pissed off

"Wei Wuxian can do it."

"Do what?" he says, with injured pride.

"Fall safely. --Sorry for kicking you, it's hard to test if you're not surprised."

The second-in-command of the local gang can go around kicking him, he GUESSES.

Must not laugh at Wei Wuxian, he can kill me. Must not laugh at Wei Wuxian, he can kill me. Must not laugh at Wei Wuxian...

"Well, I admit that Wei Wuxian doing something doesn't prove the rest of us can do it, but in this case..."

"Sword drills and I'll knock both of you down when you're distracted? --Or you can try to take me down when I do, if you want, that's also informative."

"Fair enough."

If Asher turns his back she'll give Wei Wuxian Bern (he's less likely to go for her if she says it) a quick "hit him while he's paying attention to me" gesture, and then she can get to work on the sword drills.
