If delicacy is required I think I'll leave it to Joss. Alice would but she doesn't understand the situation well enough.

Joss makes a quiet, almost amused sound as Rex woofs out something that might be a laugh.

"We gonna continue our recce?" she asks Alice and Zahn. This isn't a conversation she wants to have exactly here.

"Up to you, I'd like to see more but it's not urgent considering they've already done some of the exploring we planned to. I think Rex will be disappointed if we go inside right away though."

Rex barks and bounds off before anyone can make him do that most heinous thing.

Joss laughs. "Yeah. I should possibly go for a run with him if you guys wanna head back in?" (She gives Zahn a significant look that says she'll fill their new friends in when she gets back.)

Arla tracks Rex's path with mildly suspicious eyes. "We did come in search of breakfast."

"Well, I'd be happy to show you the kitchen. It's reasonably well stocked. I just had cereal but it has ingredients if you want something fancier." He starts walking back.

Alice looks briefly torn but then says. "I'll come too. Have a good run Joss."

"You can come if you want?" Joss offers, tilting her head at Alice in question.

She meets Zahn's eyes for a moment. "Sure, it'll be good to get some exercise in."

Well then, off the running party can go.

Arla casually places herself between Zahn and Dan and Miriam, although it doesn't really look like that's what she's doing.

"So, less worrying topic of conversation, Zahn, what are you studying?"

"Computer science. What about you?"

"Nice. I'm engineering."

"Medicine," Miriam says, grinning proudly.

Arla doesn't immediately offer an answer.

"I wanted to be a doctor when I was younger but as it turns out I'm a bit too squeamish."

"Yeah, that sounds like a bad trait for a doctor," Miriam agrees grinning.

"Turns out Miri is basically impossible to squick out. She watches slasher flicks and asks why they're supposed to be scary and explains why they're impossible."

"That sounds like a fun hobby, I like pointing out the absurdities in sci-fi stuff."

"That is fun," Dan agrees.

Arla snorts.

"You do it too," Miriam points out, reaching out to tickle her.

Arla fends her off expertly, and laughs. "Okay, okay."
