Amatsira, is your species telepathic? Or is there some other reason why you usually don't need to learn languages?

We are understood when we speak, and we understand when we are spoken to. I would not describe it as telepathy; we cannot communicate directly from mind to mind without an appropriate blessing.

How does that work? I wouldn't expect that words could guarantee that.

It is part of the nature of gods. If it can be described in terms of a composition of more basic parts, then I do not know how.

Of the common languages I know, English, Spanish, French, German, Clape, Hill-Turtle, Frost-sign, Riverside-Opossum/Fox, Comb-step, and String, all but Clape and String have a written version. English, Spanish, French, German, Hill-Turtle, Riverside-Opossum/Fox use capital letters. English, Spanish, French, German, and Riverside-Opossum/Fox use them for proper nouns and beginning sentences, and Hill-Turtle uses them for emphasis. Frost-sign and Comb-step have symbols for complete words, rather than individual letters.

I have a working comprehension of all languages currently spoken by humans in my world.

Some of the froggits in the ruins speak a ribbit language, and my most monsters speak English but write something else. I understand the words but don't know them.

I speak Unovan and Kantonian, both natively, and I think Unovan matches most closely to what you call "English." Some of my kids know other languages as well, although I don't feel like I can call myself fluent in any of those yet.

One of the languages spoken on my world is English. Do we have any explanation for why, despite the vast differences, the language appears in so many worlds?

Most of the seeds of creation speak English so it shows up in worlds within the multiverse pretty often.

I've never heard of the seeds of creation. Can you elaborate?

The seeds aren't something I fully understand but most of them they have at least somewhat person-like personalities. I have the fingerprints of one I call Sky on me but if I peer deeper at myself there's another seed's fingerprints beneath that I call Rowan. This forum has the fingerprints of Teal on it. Each seed infuses certain people, places and things to differing degrees. Worlds usually have the fingerprints of several seeds on them but it varies. There's at least a hint of a colorful seed in every world I've visited so far though and everyone I've spoken to. I'm not sure what that means yet.

Sometimes I meet two versions of the same person in different worlds in those cases it's especially obvious that the seeds have been involved.

I found this forum by following a trail of breadcrumbs laid down by the Sky seed. The magic which throws me between world is also Sky with a hint of Chain.

Huh. When you say the seeds have "at least somewhat person-like personalities", what does that mean? How do the personalities manifest? And when you say they "speak English", does that mean they know what animals say in English but not what we say in other languages?

The personalities of the seeds manifest in the same sort of way you can learn something about an artist by the art them make. The personality of the seeds tends to leak into the people that bear their fingerprints in one way or another. It's possible that causality is reversed and that the seeds only influence people who fit their personality though. I can get similar senses for worlds and species. The seed I have the strongest sense for is the Sky seed I can see influencing me. There's a strong tendency towards there being consistent rules and structure in the worlds that bear Sky influence and the people who bear Sky influence strongly tend to be fairly psychologically resilient under most circumstances.

Saying the seeds speak english is a guess based on two things. First one of the powers that I have translates everything I hear English and that's how I learned English. Given how almost all my other powers related to seeing the seed's influence in the worlds I visit I see the fact that my translation magic translates into English as a strong hint. My second reason is that other translation magics I've encountered tend to draw equivalencies that don't always make sense on first glance but make more sense when seen through the lens of popular mythologies as rendered in English on a largely vanilla Earth.

Do these seeds deserve their own topic?

No capitalization in my language! Everyone (near enough to matter) writes the same, but different people make the sounds differently. And the people (conjurers, growers, changers) who live below that I've heard of are hard to understand - their words fall down too quickly, their vowels are different, they can't move correctly.

I speak English! On Earth, they still spoke English, but it changed a lot since I died, so I needed Guppy to translate most of it for me.
