A rolling chalkboard is fetched. Admin assistant says a short chant with hand gestures, and a puff of air cleans off the remains of some previous scribbled notes that she has no hope of reading, then another chant collects the dust into a little ball that goes in a trash can.

The chalk feels nice to hold, bright white, sturdy-feeling, cool and slightly waxy.

She starts to sketch. She doesn't really know what she's doing but she seems to have some new instinct for architectural drawings, so she follows it. Quickly she roughs out an edited schematic of the lab, aiming to enhance analysis and workflow through the shape of the lab...

She doesn't get it on the first try, but that's why she has a chalkboard. A little careful erasing and she redoes a smaller section...

Gradually a design takes shape.

They both work on converting it into schematics, with frequent questions about materials, precise dimensions, and why this particular element is chosen. The Professor seems very excited. He starts throwing in a couple of wrenches - what if it's traditional for all desks to be able to face the instructor at once? What if they were to remove the hazmat suits, or install a new <untranslatable> freezer that takes up a lot of floor space?

She seems to have a little more trouble with hypotheticals, but with effort she can accomodate the requests, so long as they don't disturb the overall function of the lab.

The last thing they try is showing her photos and videos of an entirely different sort of space- A farm processing plant, all conveyor belts, robot arms, and boxes of odd fruit with brightly colored logos. Can she work through pictures and video alone?

Either way,

I think that's quite enough to repay us, and thank you for your time! We're going to go ahead and implement this, and we may well want to summon you again if it has strong measurable results!

It seems harder yet again for her to get the farm processing plant down. It's hard to orient to a space that's primarily run by machines rather than people.

After four tries...

"I think it doesn't extend to optimizing robots. I think I could get it so that maintenance is easier with a few more tries, but it doesn't extend to automated systems. Something about it requires people to work."

She looks over at Master Gal-Fair. "Please be careful to be precise when following the designs; my instinct is that they are somewhat delicate and what may seem like a trivial edit may disturb the geomantic flow."

Good thing they spent so long writing exact dimensions and angles down. For what it's worth, the design itself doesn't seem to be actively magic, though she was definitely doing a lot of strange magic while designing. Fascinating! They'll see what an implemented design looks like, magically speaking, later.

The System gently nudges at this point:

Please return to the summonarium for teleportation to Anesidora. I can answer questions about the Intake process to the best of my ability.

Clematis nods. "Of course."

She looks over at Professor Gal-Fair. "It's time for me to depart," she says. "So I'm requested back at the summonarium."

"May your journey be swift and sure," Ven-Drel says.

May your journey be swift and sure. System will bring you a car. Would you like Ven-Drel to accompany you on your way?

The Professor echoes.

"I don't believe that will be necessary, though I appreciate the offer."

Ven-Drel will walk her to the door of the lab, at least. It seems to be some minor ritual of politeness. There's another Artonan waiting impatiently by the door, who starts laying into Ven-Drel a bit, ignoring Hazel aside from a curious glance.

Hazel nods to Ven-Drel, then retraces her steps back to where the car let her off.

A cart is waiting for her!

She'll get in. The System knows how to drive this thing, right?

It starts moving without any input and does seem to be retracting her original path, at least.

Then she will type to the System as it goes.

So, please fill me in a little on the general cultural background of Anesidora. I don't know what kind of place it is beyond what you've already said, or what's likely to happen to me practically as a "new Avowed."

I do not understand the human perspective enough to explain it better than official sources.

She will start with the introduction to Anesidoran law.

Gambling is legal. Designer babies are legal. Prostitution is legal for seventeen year olds and up. All Avowed are automatically emancipated, once Intake is done at least. Healthcare is free and excellent. If you don't want to pay for a nicer place you can get a cozy studio and food stamps free. Look at how generous the aid programs are!

This long, long, long list of drugs are illegal. Please just turn in whatever the Artonans dose you with. We'll pay you for it. Don't take pills wizards give you if you can help it!

Alcohol is SUPER ILLEGAL. Nobody wants drunk supers knocking over buildings by accident.

Leaving the island without official permission, specifically an Avowed Visa, or a summons, is illegal. Friends and family visit permissions can be applied for with a waiting process, but there's a 90-day wait for new arrivals.

The island is broken up into neighborhoods where more or less power use is acceptable, from Apex to F-City. There are also special peaceful blocks meant for raising children in peace and safety where NO POWER USE at ALL is permitted. You will GO TO PRISON FOR A LONG TIME if there's a whiff of offensive power use there.

'Sways', the category of supers who have mind affecting powers, have the following list of restrictions and rules on their power use. One gets the impression that people are scared of mind control. They may be used in law enforcement settings if stringent enough criteria are met.

... Wevvi wouldn't happen to be on the list of illegal drugs, would it?

She can imagine being unhappy about not getting to see her family or not being able to drink, but she's never enjoyed alcohol and everyone she cares about is in another dimension entirely. The "safe" blocks are a smart idea and she'll have to mark them on a map or something.

She's glad she's not a Sway. That sounds very uncomfortable.

It seems like she'll want a higher power use neighbourhood so that she can do geomancy to at least her own apartment.

It's a bit... constrained... but her other options are all pretty much worse.

Intake guide next.

Wevvi is not on the list of illegal drugs! Wevvi is perfectly fine. The reading on the laws seems to indicate that she'd be fine to decorate her own apartment pretty much anywhere on the island- The examples called out are more similar to assault, vandalism, etc.

Intake may be scary, but we'll help you through it! When you arrive there will be some paperwork to do, and then you'll get an apartment filled with other new Avowed in the same situation. There are counselors and intake guides to help you get used to Anesidora! There are lots of social events to get to know your neighbors! Education is mandatory in some form or another (traditional school, college, internships or apprenticeships, etc) until age 21, and we'll help you find the best school for you and study for your placement tests! Meet more accomplished Avowed who are good role models have a successful life, and make friends and find new hobbies! After two to five months you'll move on as a happy and healthy member of the Anesidoran community!

What, she's got superpowers and she's got to go back to college? Whose stupid idea was -

Shush, Cherry. Education is an investment in being able to do interesting things with her powers.

One kind of suspects that they're doing their best to occupy all the young Avowed's time.
