Sure, that sounds like it should be doable.

The Dreamyard contains the ruins of a sprawling building, overgrown with grass and other foliage. Sebastian can hear faint noises that resemble Orchid and Amadelphous's voices. A few other humans are also in the area, helping their Pokémon practice various techniques.

Fennel waves at some of the other trainers, who are studiously avoiding eye contact with her. She leads him inside the ruined building, to the extent that the building can really be said to have an "inside."

He follows her and tries to look vaguely intimidating.

She takes down some observations. There's no sign of Dream Mist anywhere.

There are some noises coming from the basement of the building. They sound vaguely like they could be human voices, but it's hard to tell from this distance.

"Do you hear that?"

Grimace. Nod. "We should probably check that out." She doesn't really sound like she wants to.

"I can handle it. You can wait here and keep taking notes."

"Oh! Thank you. I'll call you if I need you."

He steps over a traffic cone and makes his way down to the basement level, trying to be quiet about it.

There are people in the basement! They've set up some bedrolls on the floor. They don't seem to have noticed him yet.

"...stupid idea, just saying."

"Do you have any better ideas?"

"I'm not saying I have better ideas, I'm just saying that if the last dozen didn't work I don't see why the next dozen would do any better."

"Because this time we're in their native environment. Obviously."

...Do they have any visibly-distressed Pokémon with them?

All their Pokémon are in Pokéballs.

In that case, he's going to stay here quietly and watch for a little while.

"Are we sure the native environment thing matters. Have we considered that perhaps instead it might matter if we're actually sleeping well. As in, not on a concrete floor."

Eyeroll. "This cannot possibly be the first time you've slept on a floor."

"Most of them had, like, heating. And plumbing. Also I was twelve and I am no longer twelve."

"Maybe you don't want to be— wait." The one who's talking holds up a finger. "Do you hear that?"

"It's probably another Patrat. I got the last one, it's someone else's turn."

"Not it."

"Ugh. Fine. I'll do it."

She gets up and makes for the stairs.

Yeah no he's going back to Fennel.

"There's a group of people in Plasma uniforms in the basement."

"Oh dear. I'll try and finish this up quickly, then."

...Sure. He'll... keep standing around, then...

She finishes up her data collection, oblivious to his discomfort.

No one leaves the basement in that time.

Oh good.

"Thanks so much for all your help!" She reaches for her bag. "Uh, how much did we agree would be fair?"

In hindsight probably he should have worked that out in advance. "I don't think we'd set a specific rate. You'd know better than I would about what's fair for a research assistant."

She hands him 5000 Pokédollars and starts towards home.
