"The front room."

"Right, yes, thank you Rose."

She takes a long breath and runs a hand through her hair.

"Alright, so. The front room. I think that it makes good sense for it to be a combination shrine and lounge. A place to rest and wait for a courtesan. The shrine should be reasonably fancy and clearly not an icon of Calistria.

We do scheduled channels and worship meetings in the front room - thank you, Rose - but we do them in the morning and early afternoon, never the evening. During the evening we focus on brothel business.

As for dealing with Nap Stack and more targeted healing, we set aside one of the back rooms as a magical clinic and rest room. We cast Nap Stack on Fireday of each week for our people, as well as on any day that it is purchased by an individual or group. If the slot is not used for Nap Stack, we channel it into the Sinflower to make more. We can organize a group buy-in system if need be."

She looks at Rose and Ember. "Is there anything wrong with this plan?"

"It's not ideal for Nap Stack efficiency, but I can see it working. We'll have to figure out how to make the shrine distinct from Calistria's - the Shelynites should know some things about design and be able to help us there. We still need to come up with something to actually say during worship meetings, but scheduling them and channels for the morning and afternoon makes sense."

"I have no objections."

"Good," Kumi says. "Glad we could sort that out."

She looks at Rose. "Let's get to work, shall we?"

"Of course."

"As for you, Ember - go talk to the Church of Sarenrae. I'm serious about this."

"Of course." Ember bows slightly.

And the day's work begins.

Later that day...

"You did not have to come," Ember says stiffly. "Surely there is some business you need to attend to?"

"Kumi says, and I agree, that it's going to be... an adjustment for you. And there are few things more important to our church than making sure you are okay and safe through the whole process."

Ember looks up at the high minarets of the Temple of the Shining Star. "I am strong. I can bear it."

It sounds more like she's trying to convince herself than anything else.

"Nonetheless. You always bring someone to advocate for you when you seek serious medical treatment. That's just a rule of how the system works."

"I see..."

Ember passes through the shadow of the massive sundial outside the temple, and enters.

The temple is crowded with pilgrims and Seekers. Sarenrae's church oversees the Test of the Starstone, so the hall is full of men and women in armor.

Towards the front, a cleric holds forth on the beauty of redemption and the virtue of mercy.

Rose guides Ember past the congregation and into a small office at the side of the temple. There's a sitting area, crowded with the injured and sick; she nods to the receptionist, takes a seat, and gestures for Ember to join her.

"We'll be called when they're ready to see us."

Ember settles into her chair, sitting rigidly, tapping one four-fingered hand against her other elbow.

"How long is the wait, usually?"

"Some hours, generally. There is only so much powerful magical healing to go around."

Rose settles in. "Would you like to talk?"

"I do not think so."

"Then here are some copies of documents translated out of Shadowtongue that I need corrections on."

"Ah. Efficient." Ember smiles slightly, showing her sharpened teeth. "I approve."

She takes the sheaf of papers and begins to leaf through them.

Some hours later, a priest comes down through the rows and stops before Rose and Ember.

"We're ready to see you," he says quietly.

Rose accepts her documents back from Ember. "Thank you," she says.

Ember stands and nods. "I am ready."
