Alexander the Great went to see the philosopher Diogenes whom he had heard so much about. He found him in the public square, dressed in rags and living in a barrel, resting in a beam of sunlight. Because of Alexander’s respect for Diogenes’ great wisdom, he offered the philosopher anything he wished for. Diogenes responded that he wanted nothing. “Surely,” Alexander pressed, there must be something you want.” “Yes,” Diogenes replied. “Move over. You’re blocking my light.”
