"Thanks."  Soon enough, eggs are served.

Om nom nom.

"Sleep well, Tobi?"

Vigorous noms, of excessively salted and peppered fried eggs.

"I did, yeah.  Always do after a big fight."

Hers are flavored with hot sauce. She gives no indication that this is anything strange.

"Makes sense. I get really restless, makes me wanna fly around some."

Tobi nods, and swallows a truly prodigious amount of egg white.  "What about you, Bryce?"

She shrugs noncommittally.

This is a bit more awkward than she'd been planning, she might not be able to 'recruit' Tobi now. Might still be salvageable, though.

"How often do you get into big fights?"

"Once every few weeks, maybe once a month.  Got a friend who helps me track 'em down."

"It's good you have tracking help, but I wouldn't want to be going into fights like that without someone to have my back."

"I've had some close calls," she says.  She sounds almost smug about it.  "But I've never found anyone who'd want to pick up and travel with me.  Plus my contact's kinda private, he wouldn't be wild about bringing new folks into the fold."

"You pretty attached to being nomadic, then?"

"Yeah.  I'm good enough to take down the really big ones, that's where I should be, you know?"

"Makes sense. I used to like roaming, but settling here with Bryce is good. I like where I've ended up." Someone chaffing at the bit to get out and about might not be the best for her little collection, especially given Tobi's connections to this mystery help - eh, not all opportunities can be seized. She'll see about shooing her on before Bryce gets attached.

"It is a nice setup.  Impressive, too, I've never known someone to hold on to more than one city at a time before."

"Thanks! Two of us and really low population density helps, I think most potentials out here just move somewhere with more witches." (She has actually had to scare one off before, though she's never mentioned it to Bryce.)

"Still, though."  She mimes raising a glass, but with a forkful of egg instead.  "Nice."

"Mhm! We got slightly lucky with some of our neighbors, too. They're either neutral and willing to cooperate some or don't want to tangle with a group."

"That must be nice.  My neighbors, like my original neighbors ... it's been a while, but they were mean.  All the worst stuff your Kyubey warns you about.  Probably part of why I struck out on my own."

"Oh, yeah, that sounds no fun. I didn't really have neighbors starting out, but... The people there weren't exactly good." She got hers, though, on the one who dared stab her in the back.

"Yeah.  It all worked out, though, I got to be a wandering monster hunter."  She flashes a grin and waggles her eyebrows.

She leans back in her chair, hands behind her head.  "That was some nice breakfast.  Thanks for cooking, Bryce.  - Uh, you guys mind handling the cleanup?  I should check in with my partner."

"Not at all; I've got cleanup, Bryce, since you cooked."

"Thanks, Raine."

As Raine handles the dishes, Bryce retreats to the living room, curling up in a cozy chair and perusing her phone.

Tobi steps outside for some rapid-fire shop talk on the phone with Tag regarding North Carolinian crime reports as of this morning.

Raine's kitchen window is conveniently open, and she's figured out how to enhance her hearing with a small bit of magic, but what she picks up is mostly boring. But hey, at least it's convenient practice.

She hums softly as she works. (Listening in? Who? Her? No, never!)

"Caught one out in the wilderness, it was pretty big.  Me and a couple friendly locals took it out.  Might not be easy to catch the drop, if it was, we're kinda out in the middle of nowhere."

("You got coordinates?")

"Yeah, just a sec ..."  A few moments of silence, while Tobi retrieves her GPS coordinates.

("Well, if that wasn't it, then if we're lucky it'll hit Asheville next and I'll be able to catch the spike.  But it's been a bit wonky, I'm not a hundred percent on where it'll decide to head.")

"I'll head toward Asheville next if you don't spot it before then.  But I'm gonna stay put for a bit.  I'm pretty sure that was it, and if not it'll give you a bit to pick up the trail."

("Your call.  Talk to you in a bit.")

"See ya, Tag."
