"Thank you!"

"See you later."

And they can go reclaim their shuttle and set up in orbit.

Cozy! "I am not in fact that tired."

Coffee: appears, is swigged. "Me neither, fancy that."

"I can think of fifty people who'd be deeply flattered to stand around making it apparent that I'm important enough to have fifty people standing around but I think I like this way better."

"However flattered they'd be it would be painfully silly."

"Exactly. And also fifty 'Prince Nelyafinwë are you sure about the unbound demon -' 'prince Nelyafinwë can you swear that if there were something up about the unbound demon you are not under any oaths that would prevent you from telling us about it' - also people'd probably come up with things for me to do all night." Kiss. "And that'd really be a shame."

Kiss. "Since these things would not be 'the unbound demon'?"

"Not even a little bit!"

They are back at the administrator's office the next morning.

"I have meetings for you!"

"I have been looking forward to them!"

His meetings are with an anthropologist and a currently-unassigned ambassador.

He is very pleased to meet them, he is Nelyafinwë Maitimo-his-people-do-naming-differently-here's-how.

The anthropologist is delighted.

Good! Oh, some other differences that have come up so far: Elves can't have children by accident and find the concept utterly horrifying (and have a solution to the problem, if the humans want it), Elves age slower and don't age past young adult and can be resurrected if they die, Elves sing a lot more and die if imprisoned for too long and require less sleep and cannot dreamshape and -

Elves seem to have some really impressive advantages and some really obnoxious disadvantages! She is sure that there are a lot of people who will want the solution but there are a lot of people who won't. How much slower? How are they resurrected? Their names are different, does this have the following plausible implications? Does the slowed aging have the following plausible implications?

Yep to most of the implications - they inherit patrilineally - though inheritance doesn't come up much - yep they don't do divorce or remarriage - takes a thousand two hundred years to reach young adulthood, full maturity's at twenty-five hundred -

"We keep our brains written down in this complicated format I'd have to give a technology lecture for you to follow, and can have a new body made around a new copy of our brain and it works fine."

...Wow. That is a really long time to grow up.

"Some people find it extremely annoying."

That's not really surprising. Gosh.

She asks more anthropological questions! And will tell him anthropological things about this world! At some point it occurs to her to ask how he came by the information he had before he met her.

"This is the second planet of humans we've made contact with! The other ones don't have dreamshaping either and I hesitate to do anything that might qualify as representing them on their behalf but I will be sure to introduce you once it's convenient."

That doesn't explain how he knew about the names but she supposes he probably got that out of Jarizana Kalen Zalech.

"Talked to some people when we first landed, actually. I make a point of knowing peoples' names and it is in any event a natural first topic of conversation."

Yes, that makes sense.

Anthropology!
