We have worked very hard to build a nice world here, and most people do not want to take the risk that they'd be killed should they return. People miss their families, but they can often persuade them to emigrate also.

What's the place like, besides science fantasy? How's it structured?

This universe has many civilizations on many different worlds. We started this project on an unoccupied world with the help of a nearby one, who has now decided to join us in creating a federation of planets which has more interventionist inclinations than the largest extant such federation. The largest extant federation is post-scarcity and accepts immigrants; if anyone does not like how this planet is governed they could travel there.

In a spaceship?

How do those work?

I don't know enough science to build one myself, yet, but T'Mir has one and we can buy others from people who do know how they work. And if you come here, you can take lessons in science and engineering and eventually be able to develop and build your own spaceships.

Who's T'Mir?

T'Mir is native to the world we're summoning you to and was a surveyor for the Federation before they imprisoned her for giving technology to insufficiently developed civilizations, which is against their rules. After we broke her out of prison she became involved in this colony effort and she is one of the rulers of the planet and helps us interface with the Federation and other local institutions.

One of the rulers?

The other is a native to the prime material and the Imperium. She's the one I mentioned who returned to the prime material from a science world and didn't get eaten.

What'd she get exiled for?

She was causing our gods considerable stress and they reacted very badly.

Oh? How do you stress gods?

Our world is paced very slowly. All its inhabitants are immortal. She landed, reverse engineered a lot of wizardry as soon as she learned experiments were safe and possible, taught a lot of people wizardry, invented a lot of magic items, and was very influential on our, um, hotheaded crown prince. There were some prophecies that he was going to commit a lot of horrible crimes and they got panicked that in working with him so closely, she was going to enable him to do a lot more damage when he did.

Do she or the hotheaded crown prince have names.

Bella, and Fëanáro.

I would like to talk to Bella, can that be arranged?

Certainly. I'll check if she's busy. Hold on one moment, please.

Bella?

Yeah?

Talking to someone who wants to emigrate. It's an odd conversation, he's asking unusual questions, and when he heard your name he asked to talk to you in particular. Are you free?

I can put this down. Unusual like how?

Suspicious that no one's gone back yet, asked if I could tell him how spaceships are built, asked what you got exiled for, when I told the story asked 'do she or the hotheaded crown prince have names' and then asked for you.

That's very weird. Did he say why he wanted to talk to me in particular?

No. I can tell him you're busy and ask some more questions, if you'd prefer.
