"We work with that Fëanor. He's - honestly, I think in some ways being less concerned with being good enough as a person is psychologically healthy for my template. He's brilliant and perfectly good company unless you ask him to make moral decisions, and honestly, that's not what any of us are good at - we're good at seeing that something needs doing and figuring out a way to place ourselves on the path to it, not at performing goodness, so it's a less glaring fault."

"There's a note in the files that Bells should not attempt to interact with him. Apparently we can go traipse around Evil Arda meeting the other evil alts all we want, visitor discretion advised, but not go to talk to him. I'm morbidly curious to go looking for evil Rúmil."

"Imagine if you'd refused to teach Fëanáro any magic and told him it was because he was inherently evil. That is why Bells shouldn't interact with my alt."

"I didn't say I was at all skeptical of the advice."

"I do feel lucky he got killed before he got the chance to do anything evil, this'd be a lot more complicated if he had."

"Yeah. There is also advice not to bring up the evil Maitimo unnecessarily around any of the other Maitimos."

"Space ones handle it fine. The ones who went through Angband, yeah, you'll upset them. They wanted to kill him, but no one else felt that was a good idea. ...I don't suppose you could check about Vala-tampering, it'd be too neat and clean if that's all there is to it but it's our best standing theory -"

"...I could probably actually check for that? Mandos at least when reembodying people didn't cover his tracks, like, at all."

"Well. Everyone'd be delighted to learn that what's wrong with the evil Maitimo is some nonconsensual Vala tampering we can in good conscience reverse and get a good Maitimo."

"There's kind of a gray area around tampering reversal, ethics-wise, if the tampered-with doesn't want it gone, but yeah."

"He might want it gone. My son doesn't cope any better than me with people trying to keep him crippled for their convenience, he's just better at productively responding to it."

"Huh. I guess I'll go visit then."

"Good skill. I'm glad there's now a therapist in this eclectic mix of skillsets we've got."

"I think my alts are sort of weirded out that 'therapist' is what we turn into if we're stuck in Materia, but yeah, it keeps coming in handy."

"What I turn into in Materia is apparently 'dead'. I...don't regret that, same way I don't regret going off to fight the Enemy even though Luster suggests we don't win without external intervention."

"It does thoroughly complicate getting that one back out."

"Can't reach Materian afterlives from here?"

"Tried to reach him by earwire, couldn't, so, not trivially. Could just be adjacency, could be something more elaborate."

"When I read they couldn't resurrect him I worried. That's not typical?"

"People can't be resurrected if they're dead of old age or a handful of other specific causes, their soul is trapped or destroyed by magic, or, general-purpose category, something big enough hates them. I'm guessing it's the last thing."

"Yeah, probably."

"I have on the to-do list to try earwiring him from other worlds until I've covered them all in case it's branched from somewhere."

"That'd be nice, but we probably shouldn't count on it - can you earwire anyone dead, have you tried that..."

"Yeah, I'm not prioritizing it highly, just, if I'm somewhere new anyway... I don't know many dead Materians but haven't reached the handful I've tried. It doesn't work for Elves in Mandos, at least the current design."

"Alright. Then the other thing I stopped by to discuss was who you need. Xenobiology teams, presumably, life-extension and disease non-magic solutions are much nicer to scale, we've got lots of blueprints you can have Cam build from but I don't know if you'd want architects on top of that, engineers, do you need people to help you maintain control of the population..."
