Thanks.

He didn't break anything. Bruising's gonna show up properly tomorrow. Mostly it's embarrassing. Also he killed my watcher, I guess.

It's not embarrassing. You didn't make any mistakes.

That's good to hear, anyway. Sort of differently disheartening, because it means sometimes she just can't win even if she does everything right, but it still makes her feel a little better.

I guess high school students can't just carry guns around schools.

Yeah. Maybe we can wrangle the vamptasers for you but that wouldn't have changed this.

Yeah.

High school is terrible and school events should never go past sunset.

Gotta figure out what's up with the mayor. Once he's out we can replace Snyder.

Yeah.

She's just gonna keep being sulky until they get back to the batcave.

"Uneventful night here."

"I think we hogged all of the events. I got to get cornered by ten vampires and get beaten up by exactly one of them."

"The thing that's eating at me is - assuming Karen was the target, how'd they know she'd be at the school tonight? When did Snyder tell you that you had to stay?"

"...literally today, I didn't even tell anyone else."

"The leader, did he introduce himself, did anyone address him?"

"He said his name was 'Spike'."

Oh! Oh, oh, oh! I know this one! Pick me!

“Well, go ahead -“

Spike! Also known as William the Bloody. He was a member of the Whirlwind before it broke up, but remains the lover of Drusilla. Or at least he was, the last time anyone bothered to write about them. He's of interest to the Watcher's Council because he's already killed two slayers, one in China during the Boxer Rebellion and one in New York in the 70s. Strong ones, too, the second was already in her twenties. I'd have to look it up to remember more details, but you do make a name for yourself, killing multiple slayers. He's most likely aiming to kill a third.

Macalaure bounces this to everyone present.

"Well, luckily for him he couldn't stop showboating long enough to do it."

Yes, I imagine he'll have a very difficult time achieving his ambition now.

(She is perhaps slightly less sulky now that she's remembered that Spike wouldn't have walked away from killing her.)

"Who's Drusilla?"

I don't remember as much about her. I'd need some time to do some proper research, though given access to Council writings I could find the information without much trouble at all. I do remember that she's insane.

"We can ransack Wesley's bookcases. I still wanna know how Spike knew she'd be there and I doubt he's gonna tell me. Though it'll be worth a try."

"Yeah. ...he can't have gotten that many people together in a matter of hours, even if they did come from outside the city. I guess maybe if Snyder knew he was going to tell me and he had a mindreader focused on him?"

"Or if Snyder was working for him."

"Oh. Yeah. Or that."
