"I think people in the afterlives still have their memories while other people are walking around in their bodies but I'm really not an expert on this."

"I guess. Maybe we keep them in both, I dunno. That'd work out OK, then."

"We keep 'em in both but we're different."

"Yeah, I guess. I'm gonna - go home and read my book, I guess."

"Sounds good."

Giles approaches Alex a few days later, before school. He does not seem to feel the need to demand slayer protection.

"You know, it's quite remarkable, I haven't been able to find anything on your species in any of my books. Given that, my first guess is... recent visitor from another dimension, one that doesn't often intersect with our own."

"Maybe I am just a normal human who discovered a magical form of plastic surgery and got quite carried away."

"That seems quite unlikely, given the late Mr. Wyndam-Pryce's account of your training with the slayer."

"I guess. Karen was calling us not-archangels for a while, which as a designation has the advantages of being flattering and correct."

"Perhaps I'll borrow it, if you're not sharing your word for yourselves."

"I'd rather not."

- he smiles. Very warmly, in fact.

"I'll keep that in mind."

"Books are good, she likes books."

"That's convenient. Do you happen to know whether the other does?"

"Faith does not like books."

"Well. I suppose that's what she'll have me for, then."

"Yeah. Do you want the daily reports I sent Wyndam-Pryce?"

"Yes, thank you. I'd appreciate that very much."

 - nod. "Okay, shoo, I've got kids to teach."

"Yes, of course. I'll be in the library if you should ever want to talk."

You can just say hi.

I see.

Wyndam-Pryce did say he suspected you of being a telepath -
