Haru gets carried to the couch.  Xavier resumes texting.

Aaaaaaaaaugh "any exciting revelations about little miss picked you off a list?"

"She apparently doesn't think she's safe with anyone but me."

"That's really weird! I think... most people? Are probably safe for a random eight year old? Not necessarily prepared to take one in but not dangerous to them... - is she going to object to me and Ari also crashing here and if so what upshot does that have -"

"I have no idea.  If she does I will make some sort of arrangement which will not leave you significantly more miserable."

"Thank you. If my assertion on the matter means anything and also even if it does not I am not dangerous to random eight year olds."

"I believe you."

"Morning Ari. Apparently a random eight year old from another universe was for unclear reasons offered her pick of government employees to be stashed with and chose Xavier based on his name and physical description."

"......What."  She comes and flops on Haru.

And Xavier frees himself.  "I should be back in a few hours.  Good luck having a decent time."

"Thank you good luck." Hug.

And he's gone.

"Okay but no seriously, what?"

"I don't know more than that. I don't know why they couldn't have gotten her a cab and a social worker to go with it even if they were for some reason committed to giving her her pick of government employees."

"I mean... then the government would have to know where this house is?  Which like, sometimes you want them to, but like, I think a lot of people they try to avoid leaving documentation of that stuff around."

"...must be a Saboteur Dimension thing, I'm pretty sure the government knows where people live in my universe unless they're doing a secret identity esper thing. Still, he could've asked them to have her meet him at like, an intersection. I would have been happy to accompany him to a nearby intersection for some fresh air."

"I'm sorry.  I don't know if there's a better reason than, 'he didn't think of it'.  He looked pretty freaked out though; I don't think I've ever seen him like that."

"I didn't pick up on it especially but you know him better than I do."

"I dunno, he's just normally.... not like that.  Sorry, I just woke up like a minute ago."
