It is about halfway through the third hour of the fifteenth day of Lucette's attempt to reorganize her grandfather's library. The project is moving at an acceptable pace overall, though she's starting to question the wisdom of having scheduled the whole thing down to the hour during day three (hour four).
"Like the flu or something? If someone has something contagious like that I'd want to make sure everything's really sanitary, it would be awful if you caught something..."
"What sort of steps would work to make it safe for you to pass a power to someone with a potentially infectious disease?"
"I think for something respiratory I'd want to not be breathing the same air as them, maybe they could stick a foot out a window or something, and if it were more like an intestinal problem the best way to go about it is just to wash everything with hot water and plenty of soap."
Lucette nods. She reaches out to the surgeon to let her know about any relevant cases, and a few days later, there's a case of consumption for Annie to try her hand at curing.
Lucette requests that the surgeon keep her apprised of developments over the next few days in the patient's condition.
"Is there anything I can do to help with that or is it mostly just people you need to talk to?"
"I think it's just me talking to people - my guess is a lot of people will be happy to put aside questions of decorum and support it... Possibly we should figure out a structure that compensates doctors and surgeons who are left without their livelihoods - they are clearly not the priority, but pushback from them could dissuade some people from seeking out your healing."
"Doctors and surgeons aren't nobles so they won't be able to influence legislation directly.'
"I expect some people will trust them if they say that your healing is actually bad for whatever reason? Not many people, but some."
"Ah. ...I'm not actually that worried about that, I have a limited number of hours in the day and word will get around."
"That seems reasonable - I can arrange for a visit to York Hospital within the next few days, I expect."
Nod.
"... would it be rude of me to ask if you were... of a similar general disposition...before the mind control?"
"Are you asking about my personality, or about whether I would've been inclined to kiss a girl if I met one I liked enough?"
"... the first."
Lucette probably makes some sort of facial expression about the second but since neither of them can see her face it's impossible to tell what facial expression.
"I think I'm a bit different, but mostly in the sense that anyone would be a bit different if they were touched by a bunch of artifacts and stranded in another universe. I was already... I'm not sure what you're asking about in particular. I was bookish and ambitious and arrogant and altruistic."
"... you do not seem very arrogant. The portion I was asking about was your habit of... deferring very intensely to my wants over any you may have."
"I'm acting less arrogant here mostly because I know less about what's going on and that makes me less confident in my takes on it. It'll probably bounce back over a long enough time horizon. But, yes, I did wind up with an artifact effect that makes me want you to be happy more than I want other things."
