"Hmmmmmmmmmm..."

Her ears twitch slightly as she thinks.

"I'll buy you a snack!"

She knows better than to turn down food.

...Oh gods this girl is so cute.

She goes to a particular restaurant a block away, pondering out loud about why the locator spell didn't work. It works now so... Maybe the magic on the lab building was interfering?

"I'm pretty sure kitsunes can eat most things..."

She orders two of what turn out to be pretty recognizable hash browns, in neat little paper packets. (Almost like McDonalds, except rectangular and, well, good.) She tries to feed a few crumbs from hers to Mango, but he is uninterested.

She nods agreement to "I'm pretty sure kitsunes can eat most things."

...Yeah this is actually decent.  Thank you, Weiya.

After eating, Weiya gets out some magic homework and starts doing it, using a pencil. This assignment appears to be a 'find the faults in this diagram' one.

Oooooooh.  She wants to watch!  And maybe help if she has any clue what the heck is going on there.

Well, it was designed specifically for smallish wizards. She is doing geometry and algebra with unfamiliar symbols on the other page to solve bits of it. Ah, that right there doesn't fit...

She yips, and pokes the spot that doesn't look right.

Weiya frowns, ears twitching, at the paper for a good thirty seconds.

"I think... It should be this rune instead?"

Maybe!

(Mango has wandered off a little while ago, but she doesn't seem concerned, at least not after casting the tracker-pinger and gotten a result that looks like the correct direction for 'home'.)

After a while working on it, Weiya declares that she needs to visit the library to double check everything! "Would you like to come along?"

Nodnodnod!

To the library they go, then!

...It turns out the librarian does actually object to the presence of a kitsune in his domain. He doesn't exactly explain why but given the tone of the rant it was probably destruction of books.

...Well, one, that's just rude to stereotype her based on her species like that, and also two, who dares destroy books let her at them.

This does not stop the librarian's glare, but also Weiya is now retreating, trying not to go teary-eyed, from the premises.

Oh no oh nononono please don't cry it's okay would you like to pet the kitsune

"It's not your fault, Mr. Drippy is always kind of sad and grumpy. I'll be okay. I'll just go check out the books I need in a little bit."

...But it feels like it's her fault.

...Honestly if it's that guy's fault that Weiya is crying she is going to bite him.

Pet, pet, pet.

Nuzzle.  She will be her very best soothingest self.

"Stay here, okay? I'll get the books and maybe we can go to a carrel*."

*an unfamiliar word

She does come back within a few minutes after that, her bag visibly bulgier, and then proceeds to a different part of this building, into a room that declares NO FREEHAND CASTING, among other warnings, which is filled with little desk-cubicles. Most of which are empty.

"Shhhhhh in here until I set up a muffle, please."

She pulls out a small slate and chalk from her bag, and draws a diagram. It looks rotationally symmetrical. And then she puts her hand on it and casts.

"Okay, now we're fine to talk as long as we're not too loud!"

Study carrels!  Yeah she knows the shape of the thing alright.

"...Can you actually understand me?  I've been getting mixed signals."

"Only some of the words you're using are in Atsosi I think? So a little bit!"

"...Yeah, Atsosi is not my first language.  At the moment I don't know yet, I haven't seen any - but I think my native language might be Tirran.  Or at least a precursor."

"Oh, you might know Ancient Tirran? I hear it's really hard to learn! There are always arguments about how to translate things, I think."
