[Are you quoting something?]

[Not that I know of. Well, the first thing was, I think, but I don't know what from.]

[Anyway, let's go get breakfast and get this show running.]

Anthony sends his assent, and then shortly afterwards can be found at breakfast.

Despite everyone knowing they should try to not act suspiciously, a large number of people are awfully quiet today.

Dayo is not one of them, though. "And no one's managed to prove it."

"But it's been hundreds of years!"

Anthony turns to face them. "– Prove what?"

"Fermat's Last Theorem," Vivian explains.

"Is that the, uh, sum of cubes thing?"

"It's the sum of powers of n thing: for no integer n greater than two are there positive integers a, b, and c such that a to the nth power plus b to the nth power equals c to the nth power."

"… And someone just decided to state it was true and didn't leave a proof, or someone just suggested it might be the case…?"

"Pierre de Fermat, a seventeenth-century mathematician, stated that it was the case in the margins of a manuscript and said that the proof was too large to be contained there and just sort of—left it at that. Well, he died soon after."

"… Shame, that."

"Yeah, and there aren't lots of mathematicians nowadays."

[For reasons known to us all.]

[Eugh.]

"But like. More than three hundred years."

Shrug.

"I don't really keep up to date on mathematical research."

"Well I like maths," he says, despite the irony.

The line advances enough for them to get their food.

Bacon! Egg! Hash-browns!

… Cereal if people want it!

Sure cereal's good.

Someone pings Anthony. [Trucks are on their way.]

[Thanks.]

He checks his watch.

A bit past eight.

Three and a bit hours, then.

And off to a table, to eat breakfast!

And people start messaging him, asking him for specifications of what they're supposed to do, and whether everything's alright, and no one other than a handful of people really knows who else is in this, for infosec reasons, so there's a lot of managing to do while he eats.
