:Well, personally I'm pretty sure deep-scanning her would be overkill, but if he wants to petition for that I suppose he can. Now let me focus:

Jisa nods, and then narrows her Mindspeech to include just Azabel. :What did he want? I mean, aside from confirming you weren't also two thousand years old and armed with something from Urtho:

:He wanted an explanation for what I was doing here - he thinks I'm from another world, not from the past of this one - and he made some statements while I was watching him to see if he lied and he wasn't, among them that he did not attack you guys or k'Treva; he said he couldn't have blown up the Heartstone if he'd wanted to. He thinks a god did it. I suggested that I make a communication artifact so we can talk to him without the delay of letters. I made it myself out of materials I chose from his storeroom and it hasn't left my possession since, I thought you'd prefer it that way:

:...He said he didn't attack us: Jisa repeats, blankly.

:Right. Also that he didn't have any plans that would have led to it and his organization didn't do it without his say-so either. Also-also he's going to put a pause on the whole killing ten million people thing since there are other worlds - I think he means to be more sophisticated than just harvesting ten million people from other worlds but he wasn't specific on that point:

:...Huh:

Jisa is quiet for a few moments, fidgeting.

:What, um, did you think of him? In general? How - different - was he from - from your Ma'ar?:

:He's kind of all of Ma'ar's least sociable impulses reinforced till he crystallized his entire psyche out of them:

Jisa's face scrunches up. :That sounds horrible! Do you have any idea why - what happened...?:

:Well, he blames the reinforcement on the gods screwing up everything else he tried besides extreme constant paranoia:

Shiver. :Do you believe him? About that?:

:It seems plausible to me. He thinks it's likely that a god blew up the Heartstone - I didn't think it was any of his business why that might make sense for a god to do when the Changecreature would have got you on a war footing by itself but it occurred to me that it might have been aimed at aiming Brightstar...:

:Aiming Brightstar at what–:

Jisa cuts herself off, her eyes suddenly huge. :Azabel. There's - a Heartstone in Haven - if it could happen there it could happen here...:

:That, uh, does seem concerning though I'm not sure Brightstar would want to explode Haven, it seems more conservative to assume he's just intended to kill Leareth which he is very clear on wanting to do now:

:But he'd just come back, right? Unless - oh, gods....: Jisa trails off, jaw working.

:I mean, if she's willing to blow up a few hundred of her own people - or if somebody else is willing to blow up a few hundred of another god's people, whichever - then killing one more person in his long line of stolen bodies to get him out of the way for a while even if they'll just have to do something else next time doesn't seem wild?:

:....I think it's more than that. I - I haven't told anyone this, but - Brightstar and I were trying to study his immortality method. We guessed it's in the Void. Brightstar taught me to send my mind there. We've been searching. I - we were sort of stuck, but he must be desperate now. And he might not tell me, even, if he had some new insight now:

Her hands clench together. :I - think the Goddess wants him dead forever. And - I think it almost has to be Her, because...because there's a lot that had to line up right? For Brightstar to end up knowing how to do this. He had the dreams - a Shin'a'in shaman came to the Vale and trained him...:

:...okay, well, I can't really quibble with destroying his bodysnatching apparatus since he is not exactly entitled to steal people's bodies but if it is followed up with further murder that is not great:

:I wonder why he didn't go for something less horrible in the first place, like what Need– oh, I forgot, you probably don't know about Need?:

:I am not up on current events:

:She's probably actually a lot older than Leareth! She's, um, a magic sword. Who used to be a person. She has a tragic backstory involving bandits murdering all her friends and getting miraculous help to attach her spirit to a sword so she could get revenge. And then I guess she's been bouncing around ever since. She bonds to women and, er, used to kind of rudely try to control them to protect or avenge other women, but she got woken up fully on the trip to Urtho's Tower with Dara, and she's a bit more reasonable now. I take her out sometimes:

:Oh, I have heard of her, just not by name:

:Huh!: Jisa looks thoughtful. :I can see why Leareth wouldn't've done that exactly, even if he'd heard of her too - it took miraculous help, for one, and it's...not clear if all of her is still there? But still. You'd think there must be something better than body-stealing:

:I would think! Maybe there's not if gods are after you:

Shudder. :I - it feels like - don't get me wrong, I don't think anything could ever convince me to kill ten million people no matter what, but...if the gods really do things like k'Treva, I - sort of get why he'd want to fight them:

:He asked me what I thought of Valdemar, and I told him it didn't seem very two thousand years later, and he says they've been preventing things from improving past about this standard of living:
