:- are you okay?:

:- Have to go - emergency meeting - Dara had a vision...:

:- right, okay, um, later:

Tran flees.

A few minutes pass with nothing else happening.

Aza writes up notes on the conversation.

Jisa is the one who Mindtouches her a few minutes later. :Someone should give you an update, probably?:

:Wouldn't hurt. Dara had a vision?:

:Yes. Of an assassin sent for Randi. With...hints, that it was by Leareth, although Foresight is pretty cryptic–:

:- ugh. What kind of hints?:

:Something about a dagger the assassin had - we're still debriefing it, Dara is - pretty disoriented, she's never had a waking vision before, apparently it's rough. We'll tell you more as soon as we know, all right?:

:Okay:

For a little while, nobody bothers her.

And then there's a polite knock on the door, and a recognizably-hertasi voice. "Azabel?"

"Hi?" She goes and opens the door.

A friendly hertasi! Who bobs her head and gestures for Azabel to follow her.

Sure, Azabel will follow the hertasi. "What's up?"

"Dara asked to see you!" the hertasi offers helpfully. She seems to be speaking what must be a modernized dialect of something like Tantaran or Kaled'a'in; it's sort of comprehensible but not entirely.

Maybe Dara's wiped out from getting a vision and sent a hertasi instead of Mindspeaking her or something. An... odd choice.

Wait, are there even any hertasi around in Haven -

And suddenly a careful, efficient mage-barrier rises around her, proof against sound and physical force and mage-energies -

- and the carefully-shielded mage, hiding in the shadow of a tree, steps forward, and casts a compulsion, carefully aimed but moderately overpowered.

Stop; hold still; cast no magic; do not use Mindspeech.

(Even this is still just-barely below the power threshold to trigger an alarm on the Web.)

- well it didn't actually work last time but it's still her best shot. STOP

She can feel the set-command landing on whoever was compulsioning her! They are very stopped!

This does not undo any of the compulsions that they already managed to get off.

Maybe she can Mindheal them away, wiggle the gears till they slip off -

She can definitely make progress on that!

- but not enough, before someone reacts, and a node-driven, overpowered Mindspeech blow strikes at her shields, carefully calibrated to penetrate an Adept mage's defences and knock them out.

- she goes over like a stack of bricks.

And then, some indeterminate time later, she wakes up in darkness and silence.
