"...Hi, mom."

"You've got something, just here." Elathea brushes at her forehead.

"Um..."

"Let's talk inside, shall we." She looks to Luna. "If you have time...?"

"I do."

Inside for everyone, then.

Elathea makes sure to take Samira by the shoulder as she passes. Nights are slippery.

She leads them to the smaller sitting room and directs Samira to sit.

Arms crossed over chest, then, firmly: "What happened, Samira?"

"I told Layla some of the stories you were telling me. She wanted to go to the moon too, but she didn't want to wait until you said we were ready. I thought I could get to the moon safely on my own, so I would go and bring back something to help her blend in and be safe. Like Whistler's eight-color hat."

"Samira. I've told you not to go into the wyld without me, and I've told you why."

"I know."

"I'm sorry."

Deep breath.

...Acting stern is making her angry. That's... Bad, and she never wants to see that look on Samira's face again, actually.

She instead lets her concern show through, sitting next to Samira and putting a hand on her shoulder. "You didn't hurt me, love - my worry is for you. Especially if it got so bad you Exalted." Hug?

Hug.

Hug!

"Are you hurt?"

"No, I'm not."

Still. Hug.

"...I'm not really mad at you," she says, softly. "I'm worried, that you could've been hurt very badly, and that you might've had a very unpleasant experience." She brushes some of Samira's hair behind her ear. "And I'm worried about whether Exalting will strain your relationship with Layla, and about what pressures it'll put on you."

"I'm a little worried about your judgement, but... I would've done the same at your age, if I'd had the freedom to. I did do the same, when I was a very young Exalt, without any of the forethought or preparation you had. That's how I met Luna."

"It took me a very long time to stop making very big mistakes, though, and to stop digging myself into holes I couldn't easily get out of - you're going to have some of that. It's part of growing up and learning. But I don't want you to get into a situation you never escape."

"Thanks, mama."

"You're welcome, love."

She looks over at Elathea, raising her brow. "Though your mom might have something to add."

"You are still a child, Samira, but in some ways we can no longer treat you like one. We want to protect you, but we cannot do that if you won't listen and talk with us. And now you have powers and responsibilities that even some adults cannot manage. You can't be thoughtless anymore. If your sister wants you to do something, you need to stop and think it through, and come to us if you have concerns or there might be reasons for concerns." Sigh.

"Yes, mom."

"Come here, dear." Hug.

"We'll talk more tomorrow, okay?"

Nod nod.

"We'll also talk to Layla tomorrow." She stands and ruffles Samira's hair. "Now, let's get you to bed. Even Nights need to sleep."

"'Kay."

Back to her room, then, where Gleam tucks her in and kisses her on the forehead. "Goodnight, love." And, glancing at Layla with a little quirk on her lips. "And you too, Layla. Please actually go to sleep at some point."

Pout!

(She'd been pretending so well to be asleep, too.)

"Yes mama," she grumbles.
