"Clever, that one."

"She learns quickly, when she wants to."

"This should be enough incentive for her, phrased properly."

"We might have to think it over a bit..." Lean. "I don't really want to punish them beyond the lecture, though - it's good for them to have freedom..."

"If you think that's best."

...Hm. "I'm... Not sure?"

"I don't want to restrict them, but... I want Layla to take this seriously?"

"We can judge how she seems to be taking things after the lecture. Perhaps have her follow you instead of me for the next few weeks. If she's going to be sending her sister out on missions, it would be good for her to have an idea of what dangers Samira is dealing with."

"Let her know we'll be watching, too."

"Indeed."

She smiles and kisses her wife, then -

A visit from Luna is a rare enough opportunity. She'd like to get caught up, while Luna has the time.

She can spare a little bit before she's needed back for moonset.

Good.

And perhaps the next visit can be under better circumstances.

She laughs.

"I do want to come back soon to talk to the twins. I'd like to meet them properly."

"You are always welcome, of course."

Smile. "I know."

"It's just easy to let time get away from me..."

"Perhaps Gleam could visit, if we do not hear from you soon."

"I'm very good at dragging people away from anything they might mistakenly think is more interesting than me." She grins teasingly at her wife.

"It will be good for you to practice on someone other than me."

Kiss. "Hey, at least I've never clawed your feet to wake you up."

(Gleam is not, it must be said, very good at training her cats.)

"Small mercies."

Another kiss!

Kiss.

She laughs, and settles in to chat.

Things settle down okay. Gleam gradually develops a hands off approach on Samira's training - Micqui and Layla have it well in hand, and... She's been noticing Layla's jealously. It'd be easy to ascribe it to being the only non-Exalt in the family, but...

Layla gets less jealous when she's getting an equal share of family attention. It's normal to not want to be hedged out of your own family, and Gleam training Samira separately will tend to do that.

So she takes Layla into the wyld. Teaches her to navigate it, teaches her wyld-shaping (which Layla is actually much better at than Samira; wyld-shaping is very arguably the art of knowing what you want and getting it), encourages her in her studies of sorcery... Gleam knows enough to help read through texts, at least, and of course Elathea is there for the more advanced bits.

She brings all three girls, after a while, for at least some of the trips. Encourages them to rely on each other, learn and play off each other's strengths.

Growing up will always have its bumps, but...

The kids are alright.

She can tell herself that, at least, the nights her bed is empty.
